What makes the gale "spongey" are the zen pins that are not really zen pins but instead 1/8 sexbolts barrels, so theyre hollow and they absorb the the hit. That can fuck up the space between the handles tho

You should get one, they are pretty fun (I would not recommend getting a live (sharp) blade before getting a trainer (dull blade))
I have a very very standard trainer with an alright design, flimsy latch and a bit of wear and tear and I have absolutely no idea where it is currently but I like it. And I only have a few ways of flipping and closing.

I started flipping a butterfly knife again after a 30 year hiatus. I came upon your videos just from surfing CZcams. I only started flipping again less than a month ago and after watching your videos I am now up to around 25 balisongs in my collection now. Binge watching your videos has been a huge influence and has made life fun for me again. you both are very entertaining and informative and have a great sense of humor. Hence me watching your videos for three weeks straight and nothing else. And even though this video is old, it still provided me with the knowledge and information regarding brands of balisong knives that are made. I know this is long winded, but I donât care. Ya'll produce the best butterfly-knife content on CZcams! I believe this is because the quality put into each episode's production yields a story rather then just a 'how to perform tricks video.' Also, I feel like I'm not just watching someone at a much higher level than myself, because Brandon adds a very relatable perspective from someone trying to learn
Oh my... The 51 in F tier personally hurt me. It was my first quality flipper and will always hold a special place in my heart. And honestly, I flip it more than my Ti Bas.

I would really like to hear more about your experience and personal opinion on this, as I myself am coming from benchmade including the 51 and 62 to get more into flipping and technical tricks and have a Hom Bas arriving tomorrow! Thereâs not much info out there on the Bas and itâs a pretty penny. The 51 morpho was my first Bali and I edcâd it for years until losing it. Now Iâm worried lmao! đ
@@vowelowl Well the 51 is way lighter and flipper friendly in my opinion. Ti Bas is really handle heavy as they come and I think you'd have to buy seperate handle weights to make it more balanced. It's a great knife, don't get me wrong but I even have to send it to get it fixed because one of my tang pins is falling out on one side and the hardware stripped too. That being said I have to send my 51 to get it fixed too because the Ti liner on the bite handle broke (people said they never seen this happen to anyone lol). So I am not very lucky with my balis even though I handle them very carefully. Ti Bas is SCARY espeically at the start with the brand new tip but trust me, one fall and it'll break so you won't be worried about the tip for long. Everyone's style is different tho so you'll make up your own mind :)

@@vowelowl Give it some time, you might like it after a while. The flipping feels precise but kind of in a slow motion for me. I'm planning on getting the titanium handle weights once I get it fixed so it might be better after. I'm still just waiting to buy a rep now however. I've meant to buy it for a long time now and I think it'll fit just my type of flipping

7:03 what makes the squidtrainer better than the kraken trainer? I'm considering getting one of the two and was pretty much decided on the kraken but just wondering what made it an A- what made the squidtrainer an A+
For me it would probably be price, for the price you get more bang for you buck with the squidtrainer vs. the kraken trainer

Do a review on the ChAB clone, it's surprisingly good while also being surprisingly bad.
Its literally almost as good as the real CHAB with extremely similar qualities (Grade 5 Titanium) and its considered the best clone that can go up against other much much more expensive knives (real CHAB/AB, Rep, Kraken, etc...)
Iâve actually heard a lot about it. Where do you buy one?

@@psychsteeves4577 not exactly yeah sure the hardware is better but then the clone is 1/4th the price and for that it arguably flips just as good plus it has zen pins (idk why a $400 has tang pins but ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ) and like I mentioned Grade 5 titanium aswell the real CHAB had literally nothing against the clone
After rewatching this video 2 years later, I think itâs time for you guys to do an off the cuff raking again like you did here with updated thoughts and all the new balis you have tried.
im sorry f tier for the stock 51?? personally I think it deserves way more credit than that. I loved that knife, used it for a while and got used to the way it flipped and really enjoyed it.

Anything from Squid Industries honestly
The BBBarfly is great too. I recently got into flippin' and while it is chunky, they're really really quality for how absolutely cheap they are. I think they came out with the V3 blade soon, and while I haven't flipped that one, it is stainless instead of tool steel, so if you haven't taken care of a knife that'll tarnish and rust easily before, you might wanna snag the V3, but I haven't flippo'd it so I don't know how it flips. But it's great and I don't feel bad dropping it while learning.
BBBarfly has the upside of their stuff being relatively available since they do to-order instead of doing product drops like Squid. Sometimes never-touched-by-consumer-hands-before Squid knives can be hard to snag because the demand is super high for the supply they've got going.
The serpent striker v2 is great for the price. bearing knife, zen pin, live and trainer blade for $150 usd

Hey Will! Iâve got an idea for a future video that I think would be very interesting and helpful, especially for beginners like me. Could you discuss types of tricks, maybe with some variations? I wish there was like a baling trick guide showing what are ladders, chaplins, rollovers, ricochets etc. You know, just to learn the basics. And then you could show some basic variants like: âRollovers are_______. Some basic variations are the Y2K, Zen, Thumb (showing how you do them). That would be really helpful, it would make it easier to know what to learn and build some combos!

Iâve been wanting a bench made 62 idk why, I just like the way it is, I genuinely like flipping knife around 5.5 or 6.5 ounces
I love my 63, theyâre great build quality and will last forever edge retention is also great. I use it as an EDC and Iâm pretty sure thatâs what Benchamde intended them for. I was lucky to find mine under 350. I understand what their reasoning for ranking is but I think they only use knives for flipping..
My favorite balisong by a wide margin (more than my Tuffthumbz Tach II) but I can see it getting ranked poorly as a flipper. (Personally, I like the challenge.)
My guys doing the Banshee dirty. I absolutely love the tuning fork trainer blade, it looks and sounds so cool to me, and you can use it as a fork! Also the thing just comes with so much dosh, from a full set of extra hardware even including bearings, and two different versions of spacer weights

Yo bros, you guys are cool, I just wanted to let you know that you're a little missing informed about the whole benchmade channel knife thing, the 42 wasn't a channeld knife, it was cast molded titanium, they stopped production because it was too expensive, the 62 was a poor imitation of what the 42 was supposed to be, the 87 and subsequent 85 were their answer, there hasn't been a good comparison to the 42 yet but the 8x series really surpasses it in quality of construction, the molding design was unreliable where as the channel design guaranteed structural integrity, and the magnetic latch is different and weird but it also guarantees longevity of the mechanism, springs wear out over time, magnets do too but not nearly as early, they're expensive but so are all benchmade knives, I work in metal machinery, i make ball bearings for planes, so i know how expensive and difficult it can be to work on the machines necessary to make the kind of stuff that goes into the 8x series and i promise it's not easy and it's not cheap, I respect your opinions, i just wanted you to know my opinion about what you've said

Been into balisongs and flipping about 10 years now. I had few CCC knives, and when they fell apart, I ordered Benchmade Model 62 because that was supposed to be the best knife for flipping at the time.
And I thought it was the best knife ever, but soon i got stuck and i didn't learn new tricks anymore. I thought maybe i was bad at it and I lost my interest in flipping wich i was so passionate about.
Couple months ago I happened to buy all plastic Cold Steel FGX balisong as a novelty item, for opening letters and such.
When i tried to flip it, for my surprise I could do new tricks and combos with ease I couldn't do before.
It tells a lot about "premium" 300-500$ pricepoint balisong, when something that costs under 15$ is better for it's intended use.
Im now thinking to get back at flipping when i find knife i can actually feel good to own.
Thank you for this list, i think i should get Dogbite, Monarch, Stitched Steel or maybe even the Fiore Logan if i have enough money. Loving the tanto designs and i bet all of them will flip way better than model 62. Im also interested about TheONE 42 as EDC but they are hard to find.

I was lucky enough to buy a BM42 back when they came out in the 2000âs. Still have it and itâs still my fav. Never selling the thing.

The Bradley Kimura 7 is the one to get if you can. This version was OEMed by Benchmade, 154cm steel, no g10. The knife is truly amazing! I understand the new ones arenât as hot, but the Kimura 7 is an S tier knife for sure!

I think blade steel is rarely touched upon and is important. The 51 being D2 for example is actually a nice choice since itâs tough and can take a fall better. I would like to see more diversity in steels like an m4 or m390 Bali sounds so sweet.

Funny story: Yesterday i had diarrhea. I squeezed all the Braun stuff out and putt it in a bowl and putt the bowl in the freezer. Next morning the diarrhea looked exactly like ice cream! The Hom Bas isnât in your link for the list of knives and breakdown of score. Not complaining, just bought one to get back into flipping (coming from benchmade trash ((for flipping)) ie. 62 and 51 morpho) and am trying to find out more about it, arrives tomorrow. Just trying to figure out if I made a good choice for the price if Iâm trying to become a better actual flipper as I enjoy the sport/skill soo much. Itâs an elite w carbon fiber spacers which should make the balance relatively neutral. Iâve skated on knowing basic openings but really want to get into more technical tricks. Thank you in advance for any feedback!
