Great to watch and informative. Just building a Gullowes spitfire. First one since I was a child😊

Hello, Darren! Ah, wonderful Keil Kraft. Happy days. I remember adding banana-oil to thinned [cellulose] dope, which gave a useful amount of toughness and elasticity to the tissue covering. I look forward to seeing your test flights.🙂
I don't have anywhere local to do any indoor flying [I'm based in West Yorkshire], so I'm more of an outdoor gal. If you're tempted to venture outside with your Ajax, please watch out for rogue thermals if the model's not using a dethermaliser on every flight. I've lost more than one plane over the years, and it really hurts because it's usually your best ones that disappear vertically!
I started fitting ultra-lightweight RC gear to my 'free-flight' models a couple of years ago, and it's grand being able to interrupt them occasionally and then guide them (almost) home. You still get to do all the usual free-flight fiddling and power-on, power-off trimming with shims and whatnot, but with the bonus of not losing your beloved creations.
I use either rudder only, or rudder and elevator in the bigger models. Great fun, and it's a part of the hobby that the CAA hasn't destroyed yet.
    Yet...😞

Hi, Thanks for your comments. No shes going to be an indoor only flyer as no intention of taking outdoors, I got my bigger r/c planes for the outdoors flying, I'm just in the middle of putting the tissue on then it's on with some thinned down dope. Should be ready by weekend.

Looking forward to seeing this one flying Darren, I would definately thin the dope by the way, full strength could be too much shrinkage

Thanks Cilff, only ever put it on straight from the tin before with a brush. What would you recommend to thin it down with.

Cliff beat me to it..... thin the dope with at least 50% thinners. Pin down the wing/tail/fin whilst the dope dries and then do a second coat.

I can bring suitable thinners next Sunday!
