I love the idea of having a strategy for all three color pairings, but Gavin I'm sorry but this set is just way, WAY too expensive to see a large amount of people drafting this set. Which is really unfortunate because it looks like an extremely fun limited environment but far too many people are going to be priced out of it.
Same here, I'm gonna get to draft this maybe once or twice at most, and it's a shame because it just seems so fun and you can tell that R&D worked really hard on making the draft format for this set as interesting as they could.
Sure, yet you're very wrong at the same time, the set is expensive yes, but packed with value and strong cards, which makes it all the more exciting to play, and I can assure you all masters sets are selling for draft (and in general) like hotcakes, if you want the standard draft experience, yu can still pick a box of capenna which is like a month-old, or older sets, or even try commander draft with baldur's gate which is out since last week. THere are a lot of products fr sure, but that also means everyone can find something for them in the mix, if you cannot, then maybe you're not a limited player, in the end, you dn't have to try out every single product, and if it's really important for you to try a draft with this set in particular, you can even make a proxy cube like one of my friends, there are lots of outs
@@lasterman94100 Yeah, I'll probably end up making a proxy cube based on the idea of "all three color combinations are supported archetypes" using this set as a basis. If I get the time and energy to, anyway.
This set would be excellent... As a commander draft experience. When this comes out so close to commander legends, it does sting a bit to see cards like Dockside Extortionist and the old-school legendaries showing up in a premium set. It's a shame. I'm not overly critical, I know I benefitted a bit from the last double masters with a couple of cards falling into my price range thanks to being downshifted or sufficiently reprinted, so I'm hoping a few more of those show up, but still, it's a shame that this opportunity was missed with Baldurs Gate.
I love about hearing about all these draft archetypes , I would like to Jund them out, but I think it is time to decide what you want to do with these sets. It is almost impossible to think that people will be able to draft these sets with the price investment it ask. I think it is time to choose what the company want to do with these sets. Reprints without caring about the draft at the same price Or less good reprints, but lower price per pack
Glad to have a "real" 3-color archetype Limited format (no offense to SNC!), and plenty of Alara love to boot! Though a question for you Mr. Verhey: Where we've "returned" to a bunch of planes more than once, is there any chance we might go back to a plane past like Alara, Lorwyn, etc in the near future?
A full 3 colour set seems like an amazing draft, but with the absolutely disgusting price of this set its not going to get the credit it deserves. Many can't afford it and those that can will often be more concerned on what they opened than on the draft experience. Such a shame
Hey Mr. Verhey! Set looks great so far with some really terrific reprints, but there’s one thing that I was wondering if you could answer: Why is this product so expensive, and why is it more expensive than any normal standard product? It’s a reprint set, which means that it doesn’t take as much energy to design as a normal set. It has essentially the same number of cards per pack, but yet it’s double the price. The same amount of cardboard and ink and less time somehow leads to an increase of prices. I really really really want to get a chance to draft this set and put some of these sweet reprints into my commander decks, but I know I never will be able to. So I was just hoping for any answers. I understand if you can’t answer though. Thanks for your time, and of course thanks for another lovely video. Sincerely, A Fan Who’s Worried About Being Priced Out of their Favorite Game
Masters sets have a higher price point so that they aren't more attractive to buy than regular Standard sets. Since there's nothing new there, they're easy to skip, and you can just buy singles--a number of desirable cards will get significantly cheaper for a long time due to being reprinted. Sets have never been priced based on the work involved in making them, that's just not how their pricing works.
Master sets have really good cards in them. They might say they don't pay attention to the secondary market, but imagine if this set was only $100 for all these great cards, you would never get them. Because scalpers, hoarders, etc would scoop them all. I'm just going to buy the singles I want personally, but if this set was $100 I wouldn't hesitate to buy twenty boxes for the long term gains.
Too expensive... should keep the premium prices for real premium products like collector's boosters, because why charge more for normal reprints if its not because of the secondary market?... I love to play sealed, but I'll skip this one and probably come back on Dominaria.
My big issue with double masters 2022 is how parasitic it is towards CLB, Goblin Extortionist and certain other cards should have been in CLB, not Whale Bait 2022.
Why build asset around drafting when we all just want good reprints for money? So instead of worrying about what reprints us players are wanting you're worried about having cards that synergize the archetypes. I don't know if that's the right way of thinking of a master set
The problem is they both want to develop sets for different audiences and they are trying to make everything appeal to every audience. When I bought yearly commander decks I wasn’t looking to draft so why force the other way?
I would absolutely love to draft this set as I adore draft and the design but as many would say I’m not the audience I just buy booster boxes and draft but I’m priced out.
Those archetypes seem rather safe, almost coresetish. what really gets me are the modern horizons architypes, where every set is a love letter to those who play for a long time.
This is awesome! So excited for all this 3 color support recently. Question: did you ever make a baldur’s gate archetype vid? I feel like I was looking for one but never found it
Hey Gavin, can we get a new art for Lavalanche? Argyle does amazing work on all his other cards, but this is an eyesore. I can hardly tell what's going on even when it's scaled way beyond card size.
I’m super into Heroic Naya, just because I know there are going to be some unexpected ways to crank out value in this set using cards likely to be low in demand for other archetypes.
Downside of doing it live with someone who's not used to media appearances vs the usual pre-recorded things. It would be really cool to have these videos by Gavin as part of the big video at start of spoilers
Unfortunately the cost, scarcity and demand for this set is likely going to keep many from being able to draft it. I'm going to try to draft it at my LGS, in which case I hope I'm in the seat for fun graveyard shenanigans.
I signed up for a draft at the only wpn store with in 185 miles of me. $60 draft, honestly if I dont see a clear open lane after pack one, I'll probably just rare draft and hope. Im curious about defacing a card as part of its mechanic though? Circling two symbols is very far from chaos orb shenanigans but still.
How about some new art for Mairsil the Pretender? I want to build him, but I want something a bit more out of the box as far as the art goes. How do Wizards employees and the RC deal with all the sub 80IQ screeching from the community? Nothing ever seems good enough. I see posts comparing Gifts Ungiven to Intuition as being the same power level with 100s of likes, like an extra tutored card to hand is nothing lol.
Why are you in such a hurry? I understand you want your vids to be somewhat short, but I almost couldn't keep up here. Making me feel stressed here rather than excited.
Why is everyone focused on three color decks. Iv almost always found duel colors to be as strong or stronger an almost always more consistency??? Someone please highlight the power of duel color decks an bring them back from obscurity.🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
If you're going to put so much effort into the draft environment of a set like this y'all should probably not price it such that no one will ever want to draft it. You're wasting your own resources laboring under the delusion that anyone is here for limited when they have to mortgage their house to buy a draft box.

Considering how expensive DOUBLE MASTERS is, im not going to draft it that often... ☹
Not at all
Probably costs 45 dollars a draft. Just can’t do it. Maybe once I guess, but I could draft a normal set 3 times for the same price.
I'm less hyped with the set after this video... Awesome mythics and shitty set make us poor magic player sad
Theoretically. Cool
This feels more like a set designed to people who are used to spend a lot of money on magic

Hey Gavin, why are all the important commander reprints in this set and not CLB?
Money of course.

because of the secondary market.
All of this after WotC keeps announcing that it's making record profits

Bear's companion looks sweet, but it wounds my soul that the bear token it creates isn't a bear.
This is cool seeing 3 color draft archetypes again
This set looks cool, but it’ll be hard to draft because of the price :/
Same I think an essential part of draft is being able to learn and improve between drafts but it’s hard to do that when you are priced out.
