  • It was a cold Winter's day but no rain and no wind. Very calm day on the Tamar in Tasmania.

    Very nice. I would love a more detailed tour of the interior. Also details on the build process. I am considering building an Escargot. You built a fine boat.

    Nice! Glad to see her in the water. How about an interior tour?

    A Spectacular boat. In the process of designing my own for the last month.
    Yours is Gorgeous and thank you for posting it online.

      I designed my own, 16x6, barge houseboat, flat-bottom with too much rise at the bow, always pushing a wave, stern digging. Wish I had built Escargot instead. I'm impressed with the clean entry and exit, little to no disturbance. I've had the plans for Escargot for years, will have to build one now. Storm and neglect ruined my homebuilt.

    Very nice! As an aging sailor, myself, something like this is looking better every day! (And, yes, I'm in with everyone else here who is urging you to do more video of your excellent boat!)

      Thanks Roy. I try and touch up the paint to keep her looking good. There are a few pieces of brightwork which require twice as much care! Cheers.

      @@Brent_K Ours is 19yrs now and is looking good but yes I'm always touching up too! I scratch the hull sides all the time bumping and grinding but still have the can of water based flat exterior paint that was originally used! A quick pass with a foam brush and she looks good again from 20"! Lol! BestRoy

    Cute little canal boat. How much is a Permit to cruise the canals of the UK. Something as small as this you could truck to the Canals in France. Nice post some more of her. Enjoyed the video. I subbed.

      After renting a narrowboat in England, I was hooked. I've been a boater, sail and low-power, all my life but nothing compares with that kind of leisurely touring. The boaters in England are hands-down real pros and courteous, far different from dodging the wakes of the high-powered maniacs here in the US. I've done the ICW from Egg Harbor NJ to Washington NC in sail and power, from 34-37, and there were too many white-knuckle moments. Escargot is my kind of boating, the best of many worlds. When it rains... how do you keep the rear area where the engine & seat are from filling up with rain water? Does anyone know the answer?

    • @Brent_K
      @Brent_K  Před rokem

      Hi. There are four scuppers - two in the transom and two on each side at the forward end of the cockpit. They are each the shape of a 1/4 circle about 2" radius. Water can drain whichever way the boat is leaning. Same on the fore-deck.

    do people use river boats in Tasmania? where do you go?

    • @Brent_K
      @Brent_K  Před rokem

      Think I might be the only one! There are old "River Boats" that were built out of Huon or King William Pine, but they are more like the classic motor cruiser designs. I mainly use mine on the Tamar River "Estuary" and occasionally on a lake, but have plans for rivers on the NW coast and upper Derwent. I go with the tide as we have about a 3-4m range here.

    What the Heck is a Tohatsu? Never heard of it!

    • @Brent_K
      @Brent_K  Před 3 lety +2

      I think all of the Nissan outboards and the smaller Mercury are built by Tohatsu who also sell motors under their own brand name. They're a huge Japanese company and make great products. The 6hp sailpro has a charging circuit built in so a big plus for Nutshell.
