- Here’s how to troubleshoot a dim headlight on an older car.
POWER PROBE: amzn.to/3zj8WuQ
Purchase some good wire here: amzn.to/32TzSgv
Heres a good wire terminal kit: amzn.to/38oS0jh
This is a great wire crimping tool that I use: amzn.to/2x5NUQ2
Remember this isnt common sense or second nature for everybody we all cant just fix it like you casually say. Please give us more detail on what we need to do
follow the black wire (ground) until you find where it's connected. from there, disconnect, sand down the contact area, check cable for splitting / rot, replace as needed, re-ground and test
It’s a ground my man, (black wire) take a crimp and fit and new ground wire to the body. Just to the fender or something. Problem solved. 👌🏿
It’s not rocket science
Man I’ve been having this issue for awhile now, I cut into my wire harness and added a ground like you. It worked perfect.
I just finished fixing my Subaru outback. Right high beam had a bad ground. Your videos saved me a lot of money. Thank you
I'm definitely NOT taking a dim view of your video. Thank you very much for your well grounded and bright solution!
Man I have been searching 3 weeks for a video or article that would help me. Thank you for uploading this video!
Absolutely fantastic explanation. I have a dim fog light and now I know what to do. Thank you
You just saved me some money. I wiggled the wires on my right and brighter it became. 😁
Thank you so very much!!👍🏼
One of the best things you can do for these old Mach 1's is to put a headlight relay kit in. It made all the difference in my Mach.
That’s a damn good idea! Thanks. 👍
Would be nice if you showed the full steps to fixing it
he said cut into the ground at light and reroute it to the chassis
@@irock4u222 for people who dont really know much about electronics or mechanics or car stuff, such as myself, the video probably was not the most clear on how to fix it fully and clearly for individuals unheavily educated in this field, like myself
@@neon1867 Right. This is a simple fix. . . if you're a mechanic.
@@irock4u222 Yah and what the fuck does that mean? If I wanted an audio tutorial of how to do it I would searcha podcast on Spotify.
Yo get a wire and connect drill it into a metal part of the car. Then the other end to that terminal.
Thank you for your dim car headlight problem solution. It was eye opening on how to diy👍🏾
Same issue with the same side on my 70’ Nova. Thanks for the video
Found a loose ground to body right next to dim headlight. Thanks for the video!
Phenomenal! You laid it out perfectly. Thank you!
Thank you for the information. Saved a trip to the shop with my 1992 f150
Makes sense. Thanks …this fix can be compared to a faulty switch ….by giving the existing poorly grounded connection a new earthing to the chassis the dimmed light (incidentally the poor grounding most likely reverted the lighting wiring setup from parallel - 12 volts to series - 6 volts resulting in the dimmed light) should revert to its usual 12 volt brightness…. Most car owners experiencing these dimmed light conditions usually attempt to to replace or upgrade their light bulbs 😢 cheers
Excellent, simple, to the point... Wonderful. Thanks 🙏👍
Excellent , simple troubleshoot, thanks for the help !
Could you please list the model number of probe tool you used in this video thank you much
I wonder if this is my problem now...Yesterday i finished installing fog lights where there was none and one light is dim, the other fine. On the dim side when I was tightening the ground screw into the frame about half of the grounding wires broke (but half ok). I re-secured it with a wide washer which held the ground in place when tightening so didn't tear further, but now your vid has me thinking that half-ground is making my light dim. Sound likely to you? Like your vid and the car's a beaut!
Beautiful looking car - love the detailing you done on the engine.
Very helpful thank you!👍
Make sure you like this video! I believe this is going to fix my problem with my passenger headlight.
I see so many of such cars. I just upgraded to led lights and it looks great!
Thanks for the info. I hope it fixes my dim light issues. Blessings
Sometimes smacking the headlight a lil bit works, worked on my car just now
I love you 71 Mach 1 I use to have one back in the days 👌👌👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️😪
Thanks I really appreciate it that really did help me out
Thanks, bro!!👍🏿
Very helpful, worked for me!!!!!
Awesome video. Do you think that will also work for front blinker light? Right side of my 1965 c10 turn signal blinks lighter than left side. Thanks
Thank you so much
Thanks a million for the knowledge
I'll check the ground like you said though
Thank you.
Having a problem with new octane headlights on my 86 Cutlass non halo, non led. While the Low beams are on the highs light up a tiny bit, then turn highs on and the lows cut out, very strange to me, I wouldn't think they are designed to work this way, gonna get back into it tomorrow, any tips greatly appreciated.
Have a 2000 Dodge Durango and the passenger side light is dim I need help fixing it please advise
Recently my bike high beam indicator's light dim like this for no reason and only get brighter with throttle apply, I wonder if it's the same reason.
2008 sentra passenger headlight is DIM…got new bulb put in dont work at all, only drivers…switched bulbs since i knew drivers worked correctly and now both very DIM!
But high beam drive side works normal but passenger went totally out😵💫im a plumber and i am stupified!! what ya think??
Love the car
thanks for making it simple :)
Well explained....thank you
Thanks man
Good shit never thought of that right there save me time n money thank u

Hello I have a 2010 cobalt lt my drivers side headlight is dim I replace everything lol but now my problem is is my turn signal won’t work unless the headlights are off 😊
I got H4 led bulbs on my low beam. It used to be bright. But now both of them are dim, but if I turn on the high beam several times, the low beam sometimes become bright like normal again. Anyone know why?
Thank you imma try this
Thanks a million for this video and what an awesome car 👍...
same issue in a 92 Defender... but light is barely turning on.
Gonna try that RN at 9:04pm
Sometimes it could be worse... Like generally the entire engine bay has poor grounding. I couldn't find a proper 6 or 8 AWG wire yet to fix it.
I stuck a wire in the ground connector to the fender bolt light works now think it'll be ok? Or is there a fire risk?!
Thank for the video, will try this out. When rain stops this week. Also there wasn't a link to the meter you are using.
i would like to find one of those test meters as well
would a bad ground also make LED headlights dim in low mode? I grounded the black wire and all the LEDs came on like I was running high beams.
Bro my high beams just stoped working and then made the low beams even dimmer
They sound like a bunch of downers those high beams.
Great tip.
How about adding. a relay wire directly from the battery
Ty very much.
186 likes? I’d bet 99% of views resolved their issues with help from this video.
I’ve got some older ones similar to this, what do I do if they don’t come on at all? I pulled them off of a old GMC dump truck along with the grille and I’m trying to make something cool for my grandpa. Do you think there is any way I maybe can make them work again?
i have the same problem with my 1999 buick century custom. how or where could i get this fixed?
I’m having the same issue with my 2011 maxima - passenger side low beam. I thought it was the bulbs so I got the brightest bulb ! And it’s still dimmer than the driver side- so what do we do ? Or should I take to a audio shop
In some cases where one headlight is bright and the other is dim its merely a blown headlight fuse. Still lights up but not to its full potential.
What about if its opposite i have 1 very bright that it make people blind what can be the problem
I need this
Wonder WHERE He bought the Power Probe
This helped a lot bro
I have a light bulb just need to know how to put new one in
Now that light is stronger than the other one is 🤣
No. It’s the angle it’s set to
@@Archifx 👍👍
I have this issue with my car how much would it take for you to help me?
Sim headlight on my 2008 mkx Lincoln
I have a dim headlight driving me crazy! I fiddle with the harness, it gets bright. Then at any shake it may go dim. When it's dim, the high beam light on my dash stays on, but the bulb itself is dim. I can fiddle with it, and it will go bright and functions as normal again - until it hits a bump.
This is doubly annoying because my light bar is wired to the high beam on this headlight! When the headlight goes dim, the light bar won't flick on with my high beam.
Does this mean I have a problem with the high beam wire? Or is it the ground? Or maybe the connections?
I noticed some white paint like substance on the pins when I unplugged the bulb from the harness. Should that be there? Don't know whether to clean it.
Don't know why the mechanics just fiddle with it until it's bright and pretend it's fixed. Help!
So cut the ground wire and add it to metal part of vehicle?
Yes
Can you show how to rewire the ground wire
what model power probe do you have
link to the power probe pls
That was easy and thank u
That's it just fixed my headlight yesterday that was what it was
No link to the power probe in the description? 🤔
Thx for bringing it to my attention. Here is mine: amzn.to/3zj8WuQ
@@Archifx awesome. Thanks 👍🏽
great, thanks!!
It seems that my ground part of my headlight socket is not working but my vehicle is a 2010 Lincoln MKZ
Great 👍
Nice..!👍
Why did you not show the rewiring steps?
Time consuming. It’s a simple ground wire. Cut attach done.
Yeah what gauge
I'm having a similar issue but in a can am. You think you can help me?
I have a similar problem with my Volvo s40 2008 one side is dim than the other
Yeup same problem I have on my 2007 Ford E150...
What tester did you use to test headlights?
Could you please help me
I had a fender bender. On the driver's side. Now my headlights are going wild. I got high beams. Low beams on passengers light. I hooked the 31-ft horse trailer up with lights all the way around it and what happened now the passenger side headlight works and now the driver sife headlight don't work and I don't know whether it's on low beam or it's on high beam. But the headlights you can hardly see them on very dim. Could it be not getting enought power or maybe a ground. I checked behind each light the connectors. It's about to wear me thin. This is a 1999 Ford 350 it has fuses it don't have relays the 2000 had relays. This thing has with me I've got a multimeter I just don't know where to go from here I need help if you could please help me.
The passenger side doesn't have a ground to the body of the truck now the driver side has a ground to the truck itself so maybe it's broke between there and the other side the ground or maybe it's not getting enough power. It is almost with me please help me if you can thank you any help would be appreciated
Why would my headlights work then go dim then go bright again and continuously do this while it’s running, it’s almost like they are blinking . Ty
This is on a 1990 Winnebago
Will bulb grease help for a dim bulb ?
N badass car it's clean
Thanks bro
08 suzuki xl7 passenger side barley glowing
I have a 2011 cad srx & both are extremely dim
hi what if i upgrade my amp fuse both side from 10V to 15V is it okay?
No. Fix the issue. Fuse shouldn’t be blowing in the first place
Im having an issue with my right signal. Hyper flashing on the back but front isnt working. Fuses and relays are good. Replaced flasher and the multi switch. The problem is still there. And when i turn on the parking lights. The signal on the dash stays on . what could it be
It sounds like a bad ground. What car?
I had the same problems and found out I had wires touching
had same problem replace both bulb holders fix .
So this may seem odd or stupid... but uhh basically I'm turning a Chinese dirtbike into a street legal motorcycle. I currently only have one headlight hooked up (far too bright to be DRL) and the only halogen bulbs I have are nearly as bright just yellow... is there a way to force a bad ground? Lmfaoo i know that sounds sketch, but I can't pass inspection until I have a DRL and a headlight (LED will be the headlight while hopefully the soon to be dimmer halogen will be my DRL)
Add a resistor to create a voltage drop inline on the 12v side.
amazing how someone can talk so much and dont say nothing
Well judging from your exceptional grammar skills. I’ve said it all.
@@Archifx thats what happens when your native language is spanish but still i can speak 4 languagues, spanish, english, italian and french. how many do you speak or write besides the basic one of english?? yes thats what i thought brother
If I were you, I’d just focus on one. Maybe refine that skill a little better.
@@Archifx you uploaded the video right? Okay, keep that white mouth shut and respect your viewers and comments.
Would this be the same issue if your headlights and fog lights are both dim and then ur headlights blink when turning
No. That means your car needs to go to rehab.
@@Archifx lol
Both sides are very dim on low beam
Got 64 Impala with one dim light
What the name of the tool u used
