    Something you did miss that you were asking about around the 51:40 mark, but I’m pretty sure that the book says that whenever you roll your d100 and get a result of 100 then it’s an automatic failure. If you look in the book at the top of page 12, it goes over the automatic success and failure rules. So to answer your question here, yes it is important to still roll the test as long as you don’t roll the result of 100.

    Awesome to hear more about this. It is on my very soon to buy (sometime this month) list along with the Mapping game component from Game Crafter. Definitely seems like I made a good decision to push it up on my purchase list.

    Thank you for the break down. I loved the idea of this game, but I’m rather new to all this and it was a bit too complex to figure out. This helped quite a bit. Going to dive back in and give it another go this weekend. Appreciate you.

      Thanks for the comment. FWIW I don’t think the mechanics of this or d100 Dungeon are particularly “easy”-especially if you are new to these sorts of games.
      I have a bunch of vids on d100 Dungeon that might help too as many mechanics are the same-tho d100 Space has more because of the travel rules. Good luck!

    Jim at The Tabletop Engineer had some difficulties early in his playthrough missions due to having a lower Intelligence. He might do better on away missions, but getting there - jumping, cruising, replenishing fuel and power... I'm going for a high-Int character instead!

    Other solo games (or games in the solo space) that have a space theme that I've particularly liked: (I liked Four Against Mars, too!)
    5 Parsecs from Home - this one is a bit more of a minis game for the missions, but there's so much involved with the stuff between missions that really speaks to me as a solo gamer
    Starforged - It's Ironsworn, but with a bit better math on the rules. I found it a bit-- dry? I like the general mechanics and number juggling, but the die rolling method didn't really grab me. Still, I think it will really appeal to some people.
    Mothership - Okay, this one isn't strictly a solo game, but it's space adventures and the important part that I think there's a lot a solo gamer can get out of this, from tables to maps and just general setting stuff.
    Star Smuggler - This is an older game and the rules kind of confused me a bit on some interactions, but largely I liked my experiences with this game. It reminds me a bit of the CYOA gamebook series Fabled Lands mixed with the TRPG Traveller. Which does have solo rules for it, too, but those feel not too different from using a generic solo engine with any given TRPG.
    Space Aces - I really disliked the core mechanic of this game, so I replaced it and used basically just the add-on systems and tables and had a fantastic time. For those alone I think this is a valuable thing to look at for a solo gamer.

      I see in other comments now that you had forgotten to mention Starforged, but one thing _I_ forgot to mention was related to your last video--
      Micro Chapbook RPG has a Micro Sci-Fi RPG version too. I think the rules are closer to the more modern Micro Chapbook RPG than the ones I have (honestly I am super confused with that system in terms of how they've decided to present the versions) and I feel like they're not too bad as a simple experience similar to d100 dungeon or 4AD.

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  Před rokem +1

      @@ajpiskel Thx for your comment. I can't believe I forgot to mention so many of these, though to be fair (at least IMO) things like Start Smuggler are really so dated and hard to find that they aren't a true comp. Starforged is the one I truly failed to mention. 5 Parsecs I haven't played because it's minis & Mothership I have (disliked for lots of reasons--see my vid on that).
      I think I'm done with Micro Chapbook for a variety of reasons... I forgot he did a sci fi. Thanks for mentioning all of these and commenting!

    • @ajpiskel
      @ajpiskel Před rokem +1

      @@GeekGamers01 Oh yeah, I definitely think the Sci-Fi specific solo space is kind of lacking, as there are all these caveats. As a fan, I think the best we can do sometimes is just pick through these games and see what elements appeal to us and remix them into a bespoke experience tailored for us.

      @geek gamers That would be nice. I've already been thinking of all the ways he could incorporate the various expansions from D100 Dungeon into D100 Space materials and it's actually a lot easier than I'd originally thought. Should be a bright future for this game, considering it doesn't even need the World Builder variant given it's basically already in the base D100 Space game.

  • @danieldouglasclemens
    @danieldouglasclemens Před rokem +1

    It would be interesting to know how many of the optional add-ons for D100 Dungeons are already fused into the book 1 of D100 Space. I also find, that the game mechanics are great, but lacking in visual fidelity. There are some options for D100 Dungeon to add a more tactile feel to the game by buying optional game components, but it is my personal 2 cents, that Martin Knight could attract a way bigger audience, if he'd invest more into the art and visual design aspects of his games.

    I backed both Ironforge: Starforged and Space Kraken (and skipped ISS Vanguard) because I’ve been looking for a solo sci-fi game for a while.
    I backed those before I knew D100 Space existed. I’ve now received D100 Space and I’m still waiting for those other games to fulfill. This might be more of what I’ve been looking for. I really like it so far.
    Edit: I was never drawn into D100 Dungeon as much as I wanted to be. I tried playing multiple times over the past couple years. I just keep bouncing off it every time. Maybe it’s the theme or other non-Away Missions but it feels more compelling and many aspects make more intuitive sense to me.

      @GeekGamers01  Před rokem +2

    Hi Geek Gamers, just letting you know that I playtested the sequel to Four Against Mars and I can't go into details, but I can say that it is full of great content to go with the base game. It was designed by the same author who made the Court of the Pixie King supplement and Fortress of the Warlord's epic campaign book. Overall, I would say that most of Ganesha's products have been pushed back about a year due to the company being based in Ukraine. An optimistic guess, and I'm just guessing, is maybe it will be out within 6 months? Anyway, just wanted to pass on word that, yes, a supplement for Mars is complete and it adds a lot of additional content for the game.
    A side note, I've never played D100, however, your video about micro rpg cards got me to be re-interested in the game. I was unfamiliar with the rules on leader/companion play. Since your video, I've run some solo party/duo sessions from the different genres, tinkering here and there with the rules each time. It's interesting to see some Runebound 2e similarities in the system: combat broken into 3 phases (Magic/Range/Melee) and in the gamebooks, Leaders are limited to only hire 2 companions at a time, just like Runebound.

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the comment and info. I won’t hold my breath on the Mars material as I have heard about more coming well before the war but of course I hope for the best for the company, etc. If there is such a supplement to buy, I will gladly do so! D100 is worth investigating though be advised that it is a much slower burn than 4AD…
