      There is a key issue that wasn't studied in this video. Younger people are in general less interested in watching live sports. Any study would skew results in that direction regardless. A more informative study would be how the the opinions of the public has changed over time for different age groups.
      For anecdotal evidence, I didn't start regularly watching football till almost 20. Much rather preferred to play instead

    The end of the video sums it all up. I don't think it's a matter of time or even short attention span, which we all have. The main problem is most of us don't want to pay USD$60 or whatever amount a month to SKY, just to watch 4 games in 4 weeks, mostly because different country leagues/european competitions come from different pay service companies. The pay to watch tv services are a mess. It's easier to watch the games you want, from the different competitions on pirate streaming services.

    The biggest issue imo is the amount of expensive subsribtions you need. For example you could need 3 different packages only if you want to watch the top 4 leagues (and that doesn't include other sports). In a sense the idea of ESL is catering toward a more consumer friendly system in a cost of the death of small club across europe

    The best way that social media transformed F1 was by making it a lot more open. In the past everything you'd see was very polished and curated, and teams completely secretive. Now, apart from countless experts analysing both race situations and the technical aspects, you also see the top teams giving debriefs on CZcams, discussing their decisions openly and answering fan questions after every race. Imagine a football coach doing the same, giving his explanation on what strategy he chose and why he made the substitutions that he did. Or players, discussing their play, or training, or equipment. There are also lots of proprietary data analysing companies, just give the fans a glimpse on what goes on behind the scenes and why.

  • @tarcisiocolaresnogueirajun6916

    I would recommend Athletic Interest to study where Twitch and CZcams fits in this scenario (specially the purple social media) and how they menace the traditional sports broadcasting.
    Recently in Brazil, F1 granted a Twitch streamer the rights to broadcast the F1 Brazilian Grand Prix. The same streamer (Gaules) is also streaming 90 NBA Games this season in partnership with Budweiser. His broadcast team has like 4 or 5 people in sort of a watch party.
    That is a huge broadcasting transformation.

      @AthleticInterest  Před 2 lety +82

      Sounds like we need to make a sequel 🤗. Also found it super interesting that CZcams recently acquired the rights for the Women's Champions League together with DAZN and is streaming matches globally and for free. There's definitely some movement in the market, but it feels like the big disruption is yet to happen.

      And about the big disruption, Netflix was recently considering buying the rights for Formula 1, which imo would be huge. Imagine if, with a Netflix subscription, which many people already have (especially young people) you could also watch live F1 races for free, as well as older races on-demand. Basically what they're trying to do with F1-TV, but with a subscription that is much more attractive since, well, it also contains the entirety of Netflix.

      In soccer we have Australia broadcasting its leagues and national team friendlies on youtube and J-League (from Japan) broadcast some games of J1,J2 and Japanese League cup for free in youtube, not mentioning a weekly show that shows the highlights of matches

    I think it is pretty different the type of content between a sport game and a movie or a song. A sport game is tight to its end result, that's why people watch it. A song or a movie is an experience that you can always re-watch or re-listen to over and over. Fron that point, broadcasting companies need to do something different if they want to increase or retain customers. Good point by bringing F1 as an example. Laveraging social media is a great tool that businesses can't miss, if they like it or not.

Add the private owners and their insane sponsorships, and you create a situation were many people are disgusted. It goes against anything we grew up looking for in a football club. And the way UEFA and FIFA act diminishes my hope for a better future. At least with F1 I know what I get. It's ethical issues are well communicated and also worked on. Such a great content. I used to watch all games for Surturday and Sundays, my whole life in weekends would revolve around football games. I would watch interviews of managers and read all articles about sports, not just for my club but for so many clubs. But since I am done with University, I came to realise that there are way too many important things to take care of, including taking care of my career and other important things. Why would I sit and spend more than two hours on a game I should literally know everything that took place, every interesting stuff that came out of it?
    Also, the pandemic actually made me realise how football can be boring. In fact, there are very few momentous actions in the whole game. Mostly it's passing by the ball all around and there are very limited time to wafch mindblowing actions, and I would watch that via highlights as well. Even my favorite club, I will only watch specific full games because of their meaning and all.
    This topic is interesting, it matches what I have been going through and wondering about. This channel is such a blessing, we know preparing such a content is difficult and takes time, but if you would add more videos, like twice a week maybe, it would be amazing. But I still prefer your quality, if quantity absorbs it then it's not that worth.
