- finally i was able to edit something! you know i like complicated stories with many layers to it, like theirs. Certainly don't ship it but am very interested in how the story goes. Obviously they both have some feelings for each other.
i like how Jules dreamed last season of Nate at the club that he was sorry for everything he did to her and he actually said the same things now. And even hinted that he cares about her. I truly believe he was as invested in their texting relationships as she was, that it wasn't a game to him and Tyler is the person he would wanna be (that's why he said that everything he had said was true) but in reality he's too traumatized to have healthy relationships and deep down he knows it. I think if you dig really deep into the show, the story is about Nate and Jules. Like think about it. In season 2, we have two different love triangles and each one of them were caused by Jules and Nate. Well actually Nate was trying to break it off with Cassie in the beginning but she’s a little tease so that didn’t happen. But I’m saying is that these two characters are using other people to get over one another but still doesn’t work. Also, Jules and Rue break up at the end of season 2. Nate breaks up with Cassie at the end of season 2. Jules and Rue break up at the end of season 1. Nate and Maddy break up at the end of season 1. Jules and Nate were both using other people as rebounds in both seasons. The fact that both of those love triangles are the main focus of season 2. Also, Jules wants Elliot to be Nate. Nate wants Cassie to be Jules. It all lines up.
Nate and Jules' storyline is definitely the second most important for Sam after Rue's drug addiction storyline. He definitely uses all his talent as a screenwriter here. It is in this line that there is such a huge amount of detail that the viewer may not notice if he does not watch the show carefully. I think Nate was honed as Jules' boyfriend from the very beginning of the story, just as Jules was crafted as his "perfect girlfriend". These characters have so little on-screen interaction (only four or five dialogue scenes), but their relationships form a huge part of the plot of this show. I just need to know how it all ends.
I'm rooting for them since season one and they would deffo endup together. I believe the only person who could change Nate is Jules.

god i need a nate redemption, this couple needs to happen for real! you clearly see that he is trying to be better for jules, doing what he thinks is right in his own messed up ways. Calling the cops on his dad was the right thing, giving Jules the CD was the right thing even tho he had to hurt people to do that, unfortunately he doesn’t know what love and kindness is, he never experienced that with his parents or loved ones.

Please don't come after me for saying this, but I can't help but feel that Nate and Jules is in some way a modern retelling of the story about Hades and Persephone.

@@andreaelizeth Nate and Jules are quintessentially two sides of the same coin. Nate has issues with his father while being quite similar to him. He tries to embody hyper masculinity as well to be what everyone wants him to be. Jules has issues with her mother while embodying some of her traits as well. Plus she tries to be hyper feminine because she feels that that's want men want. Though she has started break out of this in season 2.
They both are attracted to each other in spite of themselves. Both people can be toxic in there own ways, but somehow bring out the best in each other.
How this relates to Hades and Persephone is a bit complex, but I'll do my best to explain. Hades, being the god of the underworld, was quite feared by the humans and the gods alike. His father was so threatened by him that he literally consumed him. ( only later to be freed by his brother Zeus when they imprisoned his father.)
Persephone's mother, Demeter, was also controlling of her daughter ( who use to go by Kore, and then changed her name to fit who she felt she was.) Persephone, though the goddess of spring, was also the bringer of death. Her mother basically imprisoned her out of fear on what Persephone would do. She was then raped by Apollo. Sort of like what Cal did to Jules by sleeping with her while she was under age and filming without her consent.
Hades ends up falling in love with Persephone in spite of himself. Though dark, brooding, and feared, Persephone loved him even though she didn't trust him at first. Even though he did bad to her by kidnapping her and bringing her to the underworld ( Nate catfishing Jules on a dating app is the parallel in the show), he eventually earned her trust and respect. He redeems himself by making her the Queen of the underworld and marries her.
There is even a Maddie comparrison with Minthe, who was a nymph in love with Hades, though they were not a great match.
Who knows if the show will continue the parallels, but it's been pretty on point up until now.

Exactly. Their dynamic is the main thing that kept me tuned into the show. I like that their storyline was subtle in season 2 for more than one reason, and I'm hopeful that their storyline will be continued well in season 3.

Because I don’t want another Nate storyline for the third season be of him being abusive in another relationship. I know he’s the villain of the series and all of his motives are unclear but they have hinted and confirmed throughout the whole series that he’s been in love with Jules. It’s now up to him if he’s going to treat Jules right or continue to be a villain.

I've never seen this show before and I don't have HBO to watch it I've been watching small clips that pop up on CZcams in my recommended list. I know I don't have a really valid opinion cause I haven't seen the whole show but I'm not buying this whole "Nate loves Jules" crap. To me Nate is a really messed up person and just wants to mess with people emotionally and get a rise out of them and break them too, to bring them down to the same level as him. I think he just wants to play off of jules emotions or something. I could be totally wrong but I don't trust Nate at all and Jules is right for nor trusting him, I wouldn't after how I seen him treat Maddy and Cassie.

The character is not trustworthy or admirable by any means but the dynamic between the characters is more nuanced and complex based off their backgrounds and trauma. Not saying trauma is an excuse for reprehensible behavior but it’s still an important part of characters and their actions.
