For blackened doom I'd really recommend Bethlehems first full-length album "Dark Metal", which coined the "genre". It's really just blackened doom with some depressive and/or gothic tones.
I'd also recommend Konvent, a blackened death doom band from Denmark.

You should definitely check out sludge metal even though it can be monotone at times it’s some of the most bleak music out there especially mixed with crust punk. Some great bands are EyeHateGod, Crowbar, Acid Bath, Bottom Feeder, Carol Ann, Dystopia, Grief, Meth Drinker, Leechmilk, Iron Monkey and Buzzoven
so basically any band that thrives in the Louisiana heat :D nice list btw

But there are gnarly sludge bands from New Zealand as well like Drug Problem and Meth Drinker especially Meth Drinker made some of the most depressing music I’ve ever heard, some comment on CZcams said they sound like someone threw Instruments into an asylum lmao. My favorite is crust punk and sludge tho like Skaven, His Hero Is Gone, Dystopia, Grief or Sea Of Deprivation. I get wasted a lot so I need my music to be slow and heavy :D

Shining from Norway is a professional Avant Garde / Metal Jazz band with a bunch of great songs. Fish Eye, Black Jazz etc.

I'm not saying everyone has to love grunge but AIC is respected by all walks of music, of course there my favorite band since I was in highschool when grunge exploited.

I was under the impression that a lot of those guys from the second wave in Norway liked a lot of those hair and glam metal bands from the 80s. I love the genre too, you can really feel the 80s in the production and the song writing, it’s become classic.

I used to play just with plugins. Everything you have heard on the channel was recorded with plugins, same for both my albums.
I used a mesa boogie dual rectifier plugin with a over scream.
Now I'm using a line 6 pod go but with the same stuff (mesa boogie etc).

Good video👍 and good list, blackgaze is a combination of black metal and shoegaze, it takes elements from Atmospheric black metal too among others elements, , bands like alcest, deafheaven, woods of desolation. It is one of my favorite subgenres of black metal

An avant garde metal band that springs to mind is Imperial Triumphant. Amazing band, worth checking out songs like Atomic Age, Transmission to Mercury, Alphaville, Merkurius Gilded.
Also I would consider Enslaved as Progressive Black Metal. I wonder if you've heard of them...

Even though I disagree with some of your opinions, I really like getting to hear why you do or don’t like certain genres, so when people ask for recommendations I know what might be the best answer haha. I love seeing someone so knowledgeable also get confused with some of these genres too, especially when there’s so many to keep track of.
When it comes to progressive metal, the downside of it is that it's constantly associated with bands like Dream Theater, but people always forget about Queensryche, Watchtower, Fates Warning and Savatage.
I particularly like Fate's Warning.
A great band with a long career.

A few of the genres you put in Meh I really dig, but for the most part I have no clue what most of that stuff is. Lots of Numetal sucks, but there’s a lot of it I really like too. Same with groove metal. I’m not a fan of folk metal or power metal though. But, your top tier is 100% good shit! 🤘🏻
Iced earth is a progressive power and thrash band with a bit of symphonic elementa too, i think u should give them a try, when i first heard them my jaw dropped through the floor to to the basement they're my second fav band

Heya Boris, thanks for sharing your thoughts about all those (sub)genres. I'm really close to your choices, except I kinda like first wave BM rather much and a lot of the post BM stuff; and a good deal of that neo classical stuff. Dark metal for me are bands that kinda sound black metallish but are not anywhere close with the roughness or aggressive sound. I think Ajattara are a name that could be mentioned? Maybe even Siebenbürgen, though it depends on the album. Black Gaze hmm, Shoegaze meets black metal - I'm not too sure on who to name here, maybe Xasthur and Alcest, even if only partially?
I really disliked Djent; I mean rhythmically and technically it's great stuff, but there's usually not too much else to it in my experience, I like melodies (even if they sound dirty) and lyrics and stuff...

My favorite bands fall into these categories: Black Metal, Melodic Black/Death Metal, Death Metal. My favorite bands are: Sinister Ghost, Tryglav, and Immolation.
For the blackgaze genre, it is basically less black metal, and more shoegaze (some dreamy wreamy pop stuff that has to make it ethereal-like) elements. It's sorta related to post-black metal in making the music sometimes passive aggressive instead of the trve kvlt stuff. Most of the black metal elitist community _hated_ post-black metal/blackgaze music since it is not like the original 2nd wave of black metal musically in a traditional way.
I find that stuff either a hit or miss depending on the music itself.
Bands like White Ward and MØL are great Blackgaze bands 🤘🤘
