Welcome to KY!! I am from Paducah and the Quilt show is a MUST SEE! I am so excited to have found you and your channel. Your Wonky House quilt is fabulous! I am just learning to sew at 58 yrs old and am enjoying all the ideas and information that I am finding on CZcams.
Also thanks for the tip on Gwen Marston. I look forward to finding out more information about her. Again welcome to KY and I can not recommend enough the Quilt Show. Bring a little pocket change cause in addition to the actual fabulous quilt displays there are lots of vendors. It will be like a quilters toys store!

And I *LOVE* my rotating cutting mats. When ya need em, ya need em. I've had a couple and it was worth it to pay extra for one with ball bearings. They are far superior to the flat ones IMO. Love these wonky trees. What a great idea! And wonky houses, just in time to wonkify my house blocks. Liberating indeed. Thank you.

This is so cute and I love the improv, be-creative-and-just-have fun spirit that you've embraced with this project. I was literally telling someone this morning that I have this terrible habit of taking my hobbies that I do for fun and relaxation and turning them into work (either literal work/employment or by doing over-committed, stressful gift-making). This feels like the opposite of that, kind of like just getting out some random art supplies and drawing and painting whatever comes into your head for the joy of it. (That said, I also feel like the direction the quilt is going in would turn into the cutest kid quilt that could double as a play mat. I literally cannot stop thinking about making gifts at this time of year).
Coincidentally, the maintenance people at my apartment building have also decided now would be a great time to use a leaf blower.

Rotating cutting mat can be accomplished with a small cutting mat, 6x8 or 7x9. They sell them at the dollar store. Works just as good as the rotating mat.

  • @143handmade

Any small mat spins. There is no need to invest in one that will get weird with lint and string over time. Just get a little 12 by 12 cutting mat so you can easily move it in whatever direction you need to. Love the wonky tree!!! Im starting a wonky christmas quilt, and these ideas are great!!

I have a 17" square Olfa mat that spins. It is flat the cutting surface with the measurements and a backing. the truning mechanism is in between the back and front. I really like the size as i find the space is nice to have just in case! The only thing I did not like about it was that the materials used to make the the spinning mat had a very strong rubber or glue smell that took a good while to dissipate. I think as much as you like to cut and sew it will make you very happy.

Great tutorial. I loved the Legally Blonde reference. I have a rotating mat by Olfa? I like it but it takes more space then you think it would as it rotates as a square. A deam mat would be a Martinelli. It is round with ball bearings and moves so smooth. I saw a smaller six inch rotating mat too on someone's web site. Try out some friend mats to see what will work for you.

Very cute! The turning mats are 100% worth the money. I have a large square and a small round. Paducah quilt week is way overrated. It's extremely expensive as everything in the down becomes super expensive - for that week. Neat place but if I ever go again it will be any other time than quilt week.

Agree with @monavance2125... you asked about rotating cutting mat. I invested in a square "7 layers" self-healing square mat (very affordable) on Amazon, and its worth every penny. Also received circle rotating rotary mat (Olfa I think) and use it as well, both are great. BTW, how can we send you a post card? Some presenters give a physical add where they receive cards, snail mail... POB? Thank you again for sharing. I'm loving this wonky world!
