Exposing the cruelty of Big Oil: Why our leaders must stand against polluters now

  • I can't hold back my tears when I think about the casual cruelty of the fossil fuel industry.
That the leaders of oil and gas companies are content to make billions while people are plunged into fuel poverty. That they'll blame those same individuals for not transitioning to renewables, because "...people aren’t willing to spend the money to do that" (Darren Woods, CEO ExxonMobil, who personally made $35.9 million in 2022).
And what about those enabling them?
I learnt via Aaron that the Reform Party has accepted 92% of its recent funding from oil and gas interests, while the Tories have received £8.4 million. Labour is not exempt. Take the fact that they've refused to cancel hashtag#Rosebank, or that they have MPs such as Graham Stringer, who is trustee of a think tank established to spread climate misinformation.
I refuse to entertain the fantasy that fossil fuels, or their allies in politics and media, have any role in our future.
My vote is for those prepared to stand up to the big polluters. I couldn't put it any better than António Guterres:
“It’s we, the people, versus the polluters and the profiteers. Together, we can win. But it’s time for leaders to decide whose side they’re on. Tomorrow is too late. Now is the time to mobilise, now is the time to act.”
