agreed 100% I grew up with my grandparents and the statler brothers and Johnny Cash were there favorites that where I get it from lol I could listen to them all day!!
The amount of joy you can see in their faces is unreal. They are really worshiping not performing or performing for a higher power. GOD Bless em all. Thank GOD for them too. Ministery thru music.
nah man, it's johnny's voice that i want, guy on the left is too deep! sounds great and i love it, but i feel like it would be a burden in everyday life! ahah
I know right I wish it was back I might b 29 but I've grown up with johnny and all the rest I wish they would bring it back this day in time music is horrible that it's not worth listening too
You and I are in the same boat. I am 28 years old but people tell me I have the mindset of a 90 year because of my love for the golden age of country music.
So good to see/hear Johnny Cash and the Statlers performing together. Cash may have been a mean or crazy S.O.B., behind the scenes, at times, but he's always super polite on stage and elevates everybody else.
Oh the nostalgia here. this is my music. born in the wrong decade. late 80's child. If i only grew up on this tremendous stuff. good thing we have platforms like YT to check this classic stuff
My sentiments exactly. I love old, old Southern Gospel, 1940s, The Fabulous 50s, The Swinging 60s and Rock n Roll. I was born in 1965. I should have been born a lot earlier. Thank GOD for CZcams📺 Merry CHRISTmas!! 🎅🏻🤶🏻☃️🎄🎁🙏🏻 💛💙💛💙💛💙 💝💖💗💝💖💗 🇯🇲🕊️🏴👑🤴🏻✝️
This is the 1977 one. Elvis had died 4 months before this was broadcast so I knew that he was going to mention him. That was very emotional 😭😭🤧. Mr Coool Roy Orbison, The Killer Jerry Lee Lewis, Blue Suede Shoes Carl Perkins and cute silly Roy Clark are also on this one. We ❤️ Sky Arts. They showed Johnny Cash CHRISTmas Special 1976 - 1979. You are absolutely going to love the one with Andy Kaufman he's the tall, slim foreigner with the high squeaky voice from the USA sitcom called Taxi. I'm not going to tell you much about what he did on The Johnny Cash CHRISTmas Special but oh my goodness! What a transformation! Absolutely shocking, mesmerising, emotional and absolutely unbelievable. Merry CHRISTmas!! 🎅🏻🤶🏻☃️🎄🎁🙏🏻 💛💙💛💙💛💙 💝💖💗💝💖💗 🇯🇲🕊️🏴👑🤴🏻✝️
We are the last generation to be remembered. So a wisdom of speech to the younger generation..... Enjoy life without technology or social media. The meaning of life is fulfilment. Marry a virgin wife and raise your sons to become warriors and your daughters to become a traditional virtuous wife to a hardworking successful nice gentleman.
That setup with the Air Force happen in 1961 0r 62 with George jones , who drunk as a hoo owl sitting on my foot locker and signing his butt off , make me wonder if he told Johnny about that and this is where the scene came from
Later on in this show Johnny mentions that Elvis just died this year. So, as you know that was 1977. So sad ...and the 4 men lined up and sang Elvis' Gospel song, the three men all in black are Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash and the fourth man all in dazzling white is Jerry Lee Lewis. Absolutely brilliant. We have 76 - 79 however he must have done some early 70s ones. Merry CHRISTmas!! 🎅🏻🤶🏻☃️🎄🎁🙏🏻 💛💙💛💙💛💙 💝💖💗💝💖💗 🇯🇲🕊️🏴👑🤴🏻✝️
Lighten up, people. Someone made a simple error, called a typo. Man, I sure miss the days of the variety shows on TV. The crap that passes for music now is disgusting.
Cash = bass-baritone, I think Reid is probably the same. Harold Reid's low notes are few and far between from what I can tell, and he seems to struggle with them. Even in this video, the way he puts his face down all weirdly when he's trying to hit the low stuff. When they're both singing C2 towards the end, it seems easier for Johnny. ;) edit : Cash might not have been hitting the C2, hard to tell actually That said, I've since found out that Reid sang a note (probably his lowest) two notes lower than Cash's lowest known note. But I still stand by everything else I said.
A few seconds before this Johnny was reminiscing about how he was in The Air Force. He changes his clothes often in the show depending on what he's singing. Black suit or black jacket or black shirt 😆 He loves black. Merry CHRISTmas!! 🎅🏻🤶🏻☃️🎄🎁🙏🏻 💛💙💛💙💛💙 💝💖💗💝💖💗 🇯🇲🕊️🏴👑🤴🏻✝️
Ole Petter Ingebrigtsen you need to watch the original film of this video, this video was taken from a part of Johnny Cash christmas special, and this part is when Johnny cash was remembering hes Air force service times back in the early 50s and in christmass eve they used to sing this song (this old house) in the barracks, now in this show which was recorded in 1977, johnny cash invited the statlers too remember those times..

Intresting detail, Cash is wearing his actual rank. He left the USAF in 54 as a staff sergeant.
Rest in peace Mr. Harold Reid Your bass voice will surely be missed. (and daddy sang bass)
My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. RIP/CD
Beautiful bass voice. RIP Harold Reid.
Loved Johnny and Harold harmonizing those low voices. Great performance. They make it look easy.
The Statler Brothers were/are the absolute BEST!!!
agreed 100% I grew up with my grandparents and the statler brothers and Johnny Cash were there favorites that where I get it from lol I could listen to them all day!!
Just hit an estate sale and found 8 LP records 2 unopened. 50 cents each. It made my day. Now If I can find some Boxcar Willie.
The statler brothers

GOD Bless em all. Thank GOD for them too. Ministery thru music.
I liked how Don and Harold addressed Cash by his birth initials "J.R." when he walked in. I don't think people are aware of that.
That’s because his parents called him that and many people did
@@jdub5527 yeah, that's the name he was born with.. the people who knew him before he became "Johnny" referred to him as J.R.
WOW! I didn't even notice. I was too busy grinning. Good ears.

Amazing
Written by renowned singer/songwriter and actor Stuart Hamblen.

Brilliantly
Awesome
I looked up the song title with the original singer and came across this Gold Nugget!❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤
The original singer/songwriter is Stuart Hamblen.
Great.
first time I heard this was by Brian Setzer!
Basing on the way johnny looks, and the fact Lew Dewitt is still in the Statler Brothers, id guess this is about the mid 1970's?
Probably around 1970??? The Statler Brothers went on their on about 1972.
Pretty close. It's from 1977.
Chistmas Special 1977 !! /CD
e Glunt yes this was in 1977 if im not mistaken, during the Christmas special of Johnny Cash, the Statlers were invited there to sing with Johnny
Later on in this show Johnny mentions that Elvis just died this year. So, as you know that was 1977. It's statler
Excellent! But why block off the ending with ads??!! Cannot see the finale!!
I don't know how they don't laugh 😂
Wow thats so old
R.I.P
douglas holt RIP to the two people in this video, Johnny Cash and Lew DeWitt (with the glasses)
RIP Lew Dewitt, Johnny Cash and now Harold Reid on 04/24/2020.
Uncle Dallas Fraser next to john and the brothers.
Sounds a bit like Ecclesiastes 11:7-12:7? I can relate.
Is this a segment from the Johnny Cash Show on network TV?
This performance is a Segment of the Johnny Cash- Christmas special 1977. Greetings CD
MERICA
Sorry, not startler brothers. great auto correct
They're the Statler Brothers All Right Johnny's Backup Singers
ALEX DO NOT SKIP ON THIS VIDEO. this applies to no one but Alex
No Jimmy Fortune?
That's before he joined. Lew DeWitt used to sing tenor before he passed.
I’m sorry but 1:39
Powerful right?
I think Johnny Cash probably had a deeper voice than Harold Reid.
no johnny had a baritone, harold had a bass
Cash = bass-baritone, I think Reid is probably the same.

yes true, personally i think Harold's is deeper, have you ever heard Richard Sterban from the Oak Ridge Boys? He has a deep voice too
Yes I've heard of him, I've got a load of videos about him. I think he's the best bass singer out there.
don't forget JD Sumner!
Dumb question: why are they dressed in Air Force uniforms? Was this part of a USO Show done around Christmas time? Around what year? 60's? 70's?
It's a throwback to Johnny's days in the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s.
A few seconds before this Johnny was reminiscing about how he was in The Air Force. He changes his clothes often in the show depending on what he's singing. Black suit or black jacket or black shirt 😆 He loves black.
