We were both suspicious, but didn't want to believe it. I cut things off with him, and they officially started dating. They broke up after 2 years, and I opened up to her about the possible overlap. We are both now very close, and hate his guts together.

I’m so confused now. I’m called a pick me at an all girls school for having a weird personality and THIS is what a pick me really is? Now I’m mad for not standing up for myself.
Pick mes can be in opposite sides of the spectrum. They can either demonize femininity and pretend to be “one of the boys” and make fun of girls that like normal things women might like or be hyper feminine and believe if they are more pretty and submissive they will get the man, usually they will spill the same misogynistic shit some men believe. Obviously, being either more masculine or feminine is not wrong, plus hobbies aren’t divided by gender but these girl just don’t see that and will tear themselves apart for that sweet, sweet male validation. You sound like you don’t, you live how you want to live.
People get called pick mes when they’re not all the time. Married women are called pick mes. People with bfs even single people. It started out because a few women or feminists were upset at the word “simp” even though simp was gender neutral and started using the word pick me to refer to women who simply put other women down (supposedly) but it can also be referred to people who “try” to act differently from women in general.
There isn’t just one definition of a pick me imo.

I believe every girl had a pick me phase. I definitely did. We were told that women were only makeup/shopaholics, non sporty, like pink and clothes. We looked at ourselves and saw so much more but it wasn't considered feminine, so we tried to push ourselves as far away as possible from the stereotype, because all the fun, interesting qualities were considered masculine.

I initially meant for this comment to be a safe place for all the girls who've experienced the same level of insecurity as mine and who've grown smarter, more mature and more confident to share their past without any judgement. And hopefully for those currently going through that phase to realize that they're special without putting others down even if they don't intend to. I can't with pick me girls. I was always the quiet good kid and there was this pick me girl in my class. She always bullied me but I didn't really care, I just thought it was funny. The girl had a pretty bad self image and she was competing with me because she recognized her insecurities in me but unlike her, I had good friends that cared about me. Just the fact that she was competing with me gave me confidence. I do remember feeling bad for her because if she was accepted in like I was, I genuinely believe she wouldn't be so bad. And I told her that. I hope all of my bullies are doing ok now, I hope they got some better friends honestly.
