- After taking the phoenix 200 ATV back to the dealer 3 times they finely fingered it out... Works like new now! We are very thankful we had a good ATV dealer to help us out with this mess. Thanks Hernley's Polaris in PA.
Thank you so much for the video i been having the same problem with the Polaris Phoenix 200 now that I have some answers I'm going to tell the dealer to look at this video.
Thank you!!! We just bought one used from a dealer in Connecticut and it ran great the day we bought it and the very next day we went for about an hour ride and our son went through a water hole and it stalled, then it only ran half choke Stalling every once in a while to get home… Now it’s about a month and won’t start at all or a little bit choked but stalls right out
Thank you so much for this video. After owning a Phoenix 200 for 5 years and actually exchanging it once at the dealership because the thing was the most impossible thing to start. I watched this video and I finally did adjust the needle settings and the thing runs perfect. Now after 5 years of frustration, my god, it was the most horrible thing I've ever bought
Thank you
You just helped me fix mine
Alex Muntyan awesome dude
I have the same problem. Thank you for the info.
Thank you, our 200 does the same thing. I am gonna adjust the needle when we get home 💪🏼😎
Thanks for sharing this, it was really helpful. I bought 2019 Polaris phoenix 200 and it has the same problem. I’m going to adjusted right away.
Your welcom,,, I just traded it in for the RZR 200 EFI
Glad I found your video. Where is this needle that needs adjustment? What setting is in?
Appreciate the video
Did yours cut off while idling as well? I'm having the same issues with my son's Phoenix 200.
I have a 2008 that was hardly ridden bought it used had it serviced to make sure everything was good. Couple days later this stuff was happening to us also. I was just getting ready to change out the starter but I will try this first. I am new to ATV’s so I was wandering how to make the adjustment on the carburetor? Thank you.
Was having the same issue. Bike would run for a few minutes. Once I opened up the throttle and let off to a complete stop it would die. Tried the needle setting like the video but still did the same thing. Cleaned the carb and same thing. BUT I noticed when I opened the drain valve on the carb it would barely trickle out. Changed the fuel filter and same thing. Ended up putting the fuel line into a bottle and added compressed air to the fuel tank from filler neck. Voila. Gas started coming out faster. Reattached the line. Opened the drain valve and fuel was streaming. Bike has been running like new again for the past month.
Thanks
Your welcome. Also when you are riding with you little on. The Phoenix 200 hates water. Polaris failed badly with water on this Machine. If you hit water at a fast speed it will shut off everytime. My son has to go very slowly with water.
Thanks for the information I have the same problem .
Great video bud. just bought my daughter the same machine! Hoping I don’t run into similar problems
Thanks, It's a great machine and my boy loves it. We ran into another problem and i will be making a video soon.
So just brought home my daughters Phoenix on Sunday and it litirally is doing the same exact thing as yours lol. What other issues did you run into?
@@DIRTVLOG Man that sucks. I knew this video was a good idea. Yeah it's the carb. It's running too rich!.
The other problem I'm dealing with is rear driveshaft. It's Been at the dealer for 3 weeks now. If you hear clacking noise going up big hills take it back to the dealer and the warranty on it will fix it ASAP. They are fixing ours on Tuesday and Polaris is paying for it. I will update you with more information when i pick it up. With everything that has happen i will still buy from Polaris because they fix it with out any Hassle.
@@Hightower13068 hey bud how is it running now ? any more issues? looking at a 2018 now
What position number did you set the needle to
How old is the kid riding it? I’m looking to get one for my son, about to turn 9yo, but not sure if this quad is too large for him.
have the same problem. do I set it to richer?
Just had same problem..i had to tell dealer it is involving the carb. And it would run on choke but would die when you close the choke. But they fixed it and it's running how it should now..
Did you try moving the choke
Dude this video saved me from selling mine. Thank you it was an easy fix that really worked
Your Dealer may have told you that the Jet Needle was your Problem, and I'm Glad you're Fixed, But our 2019 Phoenix 200 (2 months old) was Doin the Same thing and the Needle will Not keep your Motor from Running.. The Polaris fuel pump is Vaccum operated and Our valves needed Adjustment so that Vaccum was Present to Pump the Fuel.. This was Obvious because it was popping out the exhaust slightly when Running (called "Busting Out") The Needle does Do precisely what you Described However.. Any clip setting On said Needle will run from Bottom to Top.. Trust Me
Richard Tharp cool. Thanks any comments will help. Thank you
Took the tank Off, and adjusted the Valves and the Phoenix 200 is Runnin Like New with No jet Needle adjustment.. Contrary to my Comment above, the 200 Doesn't Have a Fuel Pump like the larger Models which I have fixed Also by adjusting the Valves.. The problem with the Fuel Pump (on the Models with), won't Present as the Motor not Running at first either.. Slight compression leakage from tight Valves Won't Allow Vaccum to be Made
@@Hightower13068 hi do you know in which line the dealer put it on
What number did they change the clip position too I’m having the cart same issue on my 2017
Make sure open fuel line
Can you give me more information on this adjustment. Dude I’m struggling with this this. Please.
Yup! That did it! Thx for the video!!
Awsome man
Have the same issue. Took it to a dealer and they found it was that needle valve sticking. Tapping on the carb with a dowel etc for awhile gets it working every time but, I have to do it every day we ride usually. Can't believe Polaris puts their name on this model, terrible.
Yeah polaris dropped the ball on this on. I was so piss off
There’s no such thing as a “needle valve”… and if it’s “sticking” you wouldn’t be able to make the thumb throttle move.
Obviously you don’t understand how it works.
@@buellb0y You are confusing the butterfly/intake valve, which is connected to the throttle linkage, with the needle valve. Here is a quick video that explains the difference czcams.com/video/IBFq9nHVmks/video.html&ab_channel=CustomCez
Also when you starting it you can hold down the gas while starting it
Can you recall where they placed the clip on the needle? I just bought a brand new 2021 for my daughter for her birthday and it was crazy hard to get going as well.
Setting 2 or 3. My kids ran better on #3. Also look at how low the fuel line hang down lower than the carb. My kids looped a few inches lower than the carb. I shortened them up and we ran it on a quading trip for 6hrs and not a problem anymore.
@@gregd8381 I moved it down one setting from factory, still no better. I can’t remember what setting I have it on now. I’ll take it apart again when I get home and try setting #3 if it’s not already there, and I’ll take notice to the fuel line too. Thanks for the info. I sure hope I can get it working sensible. Be nice when my daughter can start it with ease instead of me spending 5 minutes trying to get it to stay running
Any more specifics? Do you know if they just moved the Needle Clip Position or did they replace the needle (wrong one installed from the factory)?
Moved the Needdle Clip Position
I have another video coming out this week. My son's 200 ATV been in the shop for 4 months. With another problem
@@Hightower13068 have you had any problems since ? I just went ahead and ordered a new carb but i will make sure to change the clip setting.
@@codyreed1886 nope. Starts right up and is running good.
Start it with choke manage the the throttle can slowly move the choke to normal
Were you able to adjust the pin or does the dealer have to do it? Having the same problem
I had the dealer do all the work under warranty
Its Crazy easy to adjust the clip on the needle if your even a little mechanically inclined. It just takes a little bit getting to the carb
just wanted to chime in here in case anyone is getting one for xmas 2023 and having issues. The machine started at the dealer and I brought it home. Started perfectly and I zipped down the field after unloading and it just died. The carburetor wasn't getting fuel. Took line apart from Petcock and fuel was going from petcock to the little filter behind the plastic. No fuel was flowing from the filter to the carburetor. The fuel line there is a little long and it goes up hill ever so slightly. I pushed the fuel line down and tucked it under something to take out the uphill run and this fixed my issue. I guess the fuel line has to run downhill.
Your welcom,,, I just traded it in for the RZR 200 EFI
Mines is doing the exact same thing
Mine also has a thing that if i ride a bit with the gas pump on ON it wont start. But there was an issue with mine so it should always be on RESERVE
Thanks, I will try that.....
Warm it up
Add fuel add check if it is in res
The jet needle effects the operation of the carb at around 1/2 throttle up as it rises out of its seat. It does not control the idle/start circuit of the carb. That is entire different section of the carb, the pilot circuit. In more likelihood, you were having a fuel delivery issue to the bowl. The float valve which regulates fuel to the bowl of the carb was probably sticking or stuck. Not allowing it to fill. When you loaded the bike, sometimes the vibration will allow some fuel to get through, but once the bike starts to run or tries to run.. it will deplete that small amount and the bowl will not refill As far as it running an hour then dying and not restarting, the float valve may have been swelling up and then sticking. All the working on the carb, off on, upside down ect probably freed it up. Could have been something clogging the pilot jet and it freed up with all the work on the carb also. If this happens again, open the drain on the bowl and see if a lot of fuel pours out or just a bit trickles out. The position on the jet needle should not have prevented your atv from starting. If you look at the diagram you posted, the straight part of the needle affect closed to ¼ throttle openings. So no matter if you move the needle up or down, it will not have any effect on the starting circuit. The needle only starts to have effect when the slide rises bring the tapered end out of its seat. Regardless, glad you have it running.
Buddy, I own a Phoenix 200 2018 and same problem here. I watched this video and I adjusted the needle setting to the leaner instead of richer and it throws up like never before. So I think he is right about the carbo and the needle setting
@@tonyourique8631 I suggest you read up on how each circuit of the carb comes into play as the throttle is opened. The jet needle has pretty much zero affect when the slide is at rest and the engine vacuum is extremely low. I've never touched the jet needle for a starting issue in over 40 years of being a mechanic. If doing this fixed your bike, that's wonderful. I just don't see how. But I don't claim to know everything, just sharing from my experiences.
It’s the choke and the gad
same problem with my 08 pheonix 200
That suck. Yeah nothing but problem
My machanic said that its my CDI box, and he is wanting $600 to fix that. FYI CDI boxes are about $120 so thats nearly $500 in labor. So do you think this could be my issue because I thought using the kick start would work, but im not sure.
I have 2006 she burns out the spark plug really fast like i just ride for 20 min and then i need a new spark plug.. don’t know what to do!!!
Same problem with my 05 I’m trying to figure what’s wrong with it tho
If it’s wet it will not start
the carb gets filled fast
Did you give it a proper brake in?
Yes
Your problem like me it's the gas. The gas may be empty but it doesn't look empty because the quad keeps a little amount of gas to use the ignition, You may want to get gas for it.
You know what they set it at?
Man I wish I could remember. I want to say 4. To run it richer. I hope that helps
My brother Phoenix is running on 6 year old oil and it runs like bran new
Must have good luck
Use the manual switch
Aselerale
when u start it you need to give it some gas (push the throttle)
Thanks for the comment but that wasn't the problem. Tried that many of times. And Polaris paid to have it fixs.
The dealer is wrong you need a new spark plug or you have the gas off
I just kick start mine
Bad fuel injector maybe
I have the same issue with my 2018 Phoenix.. It's a POS! Worst money I have ever spent.. I took my main needle out and it was on #4, moved the C clip to #2.. Took carb out and cleaner it, added new Spark Plug and it still did the same thing.. ugh I then blew thru the fuel line and then sucked some gas thru it, she ran for about 20 minutes and then it was stuck with no start.. Took fuel line off and no gas.. The fuel filter is a tiny inline filter no bigger than the 3/8" hose.. I have very little use of this thing, why the filter would be clogged is a mystery.. Going to buy a few new ones today. There isn't a fuel pump on this thing so it's gravity feed.. Also, a little dust gets on the choke lever on the carb and it sticks! Have to constantly clean it. I did move the spring so it has a little more pressure, seems to help a little. This thing is junk, I've owned a lot of Polaris ATV's and never had something as bad as this one.. We have a 150 ACE which is Fuel injected, never a problem.. Wonder why they did not give the 200 fuel injection? argh
Can you tell me where the fuel filter is located? I'm going to pull the carb off and have a look as to where the c clip is set to. I'm thinking its rich because the plug is black.
@@gregd8381 it's located under the front/left side (next to fuel tank) cover.. getting at it is a pain...
it's wire tied to the top frame
So I checked out the fuel filter and it was clear. I bought a couple from Polaris just in case. I did notice that the fuel lines droop down lower than the carb so I shortened them up and changed the fuel needle setting to 3 instead of 2 because it didn't like #2. My kid and I went out for 6hrs the other day and not one problem. Maybe take a look at how low your fuel lines hang down past the carb. I couldn't figure out why it would always run out of fuel and if the tank level is lower and it's running on flat ground then the fuel can't get to the carb.
I have a 2015 and it won’t start and then all of a sudden it’s fine. I’m gonna buy a carb
You need to chock it and give it some gas
I bought the cheapest carb on amazon, fit like oem. Has been running great since. The original carb wouldn’t start at all. Sat over the winter. Wouldn’t start at all
@@jrodjeremyflanigan7935 Trading out an OEM carb that probably just needed the pilot jet cleaned for an cheap chinese knock off is insanity and will come back to haunt you in the end.
@@jrodjeremyflanigan7935 where did you get it? I was going to Change the carb on mine before I sell it

What’s the top speed looking into getting one
They are fast. I want to say 40 to 50 mph
THE HIGHTOWER FAMILY Thx
@@mcdeli6280 You will regret your purchase, trust me! If you want a small quad, look into the ACE 150 instead for kid bikes.
McDeli 40 mph
just use the choke it is simple
I have one just like it. It’s Polaris JUNK is what’s wrong.
Use kick start
Ever heard of new batteries?
Or just shake it
Its battery issues
coolest game! Nope
Polaris junk
Ok, I've seen enough of these videos. Learn how to start an atv with a carb. It's NOT a car with push start! I've had mine for 4 years and it works just fine if you know how to start a carb intake atv.
Chill out wild man. Dealer said it had issues too.
