    It can be quite difficult to find an external monitor that matches the quality of the Mini Led XDR display in the new 14 and 16 M1 Pro/M1 Max MacBook Pros - That's why I think the 12.9" M1 iPad Pro is actually the best option for users looking for a high quality cinema display... that just so happens to be an iPad!

    So happy to have this! I got the 14” pro but miss doing masking in Lightroom with the Apple Pencil. Now I can just slide my Lightroom over use the pencil and slide it back to the Mac. Now I need to upgrade my iPad Pro to that mini LED one lol. This new 14” screen is incredible!
    I did notice that the iPads mini LED screens blacks aren’t quite as black as these new MacBooks. Still amazing screens.

    • @impatrickt
      @impatrickt  Před 2 lety +3

      the blacks are the same - there just seems to be a few less local dimming zones so you get a lot of glow from surrounding pixels.
      I tested both side by side in pitch black and if you load a video with black they both look virtually off.

    I use my 11” iPad with my MBP 14” (previously MBP13), using Sidecar (previously Duet Display). To hold the iPad I use a Ulanzi clamp with Arca-Swiss plate on the bottom. On my desk I use a Manfrotto Pixie plus (??) tripod to elevate the iPad above the MBP screen. In the sofa I have a modified IKEA laptop tray (video on my channel) with RAM mounts, now upgraded to a SmallRig arm. I also use the Loupedeck CT as I don’t use DaVinci (yet).
    It all works really well and it is very portable. 😎👍🏻
    It’s nice to see others using compact setups. Thanks!

    so I started travelling more and I saw this video sir love your stuff. I read that you couldn’t use to iPad pros with a MacBook Pro but I will tell you I got it to work. It’s amazing. I mean that is an asinine amount of real estate with that quality of screen and it works, it really does especially plugged in like you said it just works better. I mean God to this day I use a walk tablet and it always works better plugged in. It just does anyways thanks for this and continued success.

    I saw a post you had on THE TWITTER this morning and really appreciate your attitude. I have been following youtube tech for about 3 years now and it really has gotten crowded in the sense that alot of the content feels a bit forced and redundant. Appreciate your honesty and just putting it out there attitude. The ipad pro as second monitor is a great trick for traveling and such. Hoping the m2 macbook has mini led so i can match the two. (right now have the mba m1 paired with a LG 22” ultrafine for mac) Will be interesting to see if Apple really does come out with new monitors. That would really be great. It kinda is so perplexing to me how difficult it is to find a good / great standalone monitor. Have even tried the ones that cost more than an imac and usually issues.

      @@impatrickt if you want to do color grading in resolve and are using the iPad as a display to see what you are color grading it helps to have a display that is color calibrated using a probe (such as an XRite or colormonkey or datacolor probe) and software such as DisplayCal to make sure that the colors on your display are accurate and correct the colors if the colors on your display were off; I was asking if an iPad could be calibrated, but if it could be calibrated it would be worth it to buy an iPad and use it as a color-accurate HDR display.

      @@impatrickt so in other words you really can't use an apple display for color grading or other applications where a color-accurate fully calibrated display is required

    I live in a comfy, but 300 square feet studio apartment. I work from home on a sturdy, but very small dinner table on my 13” M1 Pro. Since portability is key for my personal and professional circumstances, would you say the 12.9 XDR would be the best second screen? Or might the 11 inch be the better choice? Money isn’t a factor, as this solution is going to make me more money.
