the thing is non apple ppl don't understand and always say things like this on similar features.
the difference is that when apple is doing it actually works effortless natively.
os and hardware changes will not destroy the workflow it is a feature oyu can rely on.
    well....
i think this is revolutionary once ironed out, love it!

That’s true, but it’s still a neat extra option to have when trying to move a document from a MacBook to an iMac/iPad. iCloud Drive works well, but I’d say that this works better.
Sometimes the files can be a little tricky to maneuver through the iCloud Drive. Also photos and automatic backups can oftentimes eat up a large portion of that iCloud memory, so this adds an extra layer of convenience.

this feature popped up and surprised me when I was using blender and was pulling a value to the right then all of a sudden my mouse was on the ipad. Now I am using it to shoot instagram vids of myself tracking vocals and playing guitar. Set the ipad up in selfie video mode a bit far a way and just use the mouse and keyboard I cam controlling Mac with to start the video. For simple throw away videos it simplifies things a lot. So how do you use the ipad as a sidecar type device now?

This is the typical move my random internet community on web. When Apple brings something, they work on usability and make it polished, not like they are innovating something new from the ground except a few, but they innovate usability/functionality. So, anything apple brings is compared to other existing systems, but people do not want to admit or hardly observe what kind of trade off is happening here. Apple will do anything to make a walled garden and they have been doing it for years. And they are successful in doing so. Users are happy because it works for them.

I think one of the main draws of this is that, not only is it built into the OS by default, but you can use ANY third party keyboard and mouse to do this. You don’t need to install third party apps or use third party devices, and it works between iPads and Macs.

I do not yet own a macbook but I do have an ipad, and I work for a software company that is PC exclusive (for the moment). I currently use logitech devices and Flow to spread my work across three PC devices (a desktop, a laptop and a surface tablet). It's always bothered me that Logitech seemingly won't release some sort of app for the ipad that would bring Flow to the device. I'm saving up for a macbook when the M2 chips are announced. I wonder...if I were to swap out Flow on one of the devices, say the Surface tablet, for the macbook, would I then be able to use Universal Control to further extend my keyboard and mouse to my ipad? So Left to right it might be: PC Desktop -> PC Laptop -> Macbook -> iPad.
Just curious. If not then no big deal but if yes then that will give me even more options for my current desktop workflow while at the office.

    Conceptually Speaking,
SIDECAR : is a Mirror Display Feature with a singular INPUT control option. Or Simply an external display but also NOT COMPROMISING the Native Functionality.
UNIVERSAL CONTROL: is a Limited Functionality but similar to the SIDECAR without Screen Mirroring but TWO OR MORE DEVICE 'CONTROL FEATURE' and FILE SHARING Without EXTENDING ONE TERMINAL DISPLAY TO OTHER and Vice Versa.
SIDECAR is Similar to Remote Desktop but without Minimum of TWO END's Processing/ Computational Power but With ONLY ONE PROCESSING POWER is Enough.

I just never use keyboard and mouse/trackpad with my iPad, so that functionality isn't of much use to me. I do, however, use multiple Macs and a PC on a multi-monitor setup; so I use a Logitech Flow setup. It's great because there is no "master" device - unlike Synergy or Universal Control on one Mac, if I turn off *ANY* of the devices, my keyboard and mouse still work on the others.
If I were a 100% Mac setup, or I didn't prefer to use an external keyboard, this would be great. Although... I do have a MacBook Pro that _isn't_ one of the three devices in my Logitech Flow setup that occasionally gets used "alongside" the others on my desk - I guess I can use Universal Control to use my Logitech keyboard and mouse on that by Universal Control'ing over from the Mac Mini...

@@WilliamSteppan I have tested it with an iPad just to see if it works, and it does. It works exactly as it does on any Mac/iPad combo - the keyboard and mouse are still connected to the Mac, with the Mac sending the commands to the iPad. So unlike Logitech’s “Flow” system, you can’t turn off the Mac and still have the keyboard and mouse work on the iPad.

Flow is so irksome for me, I rely on it to work across three devices at my office (a PC desktop, PC laptop and a surface tablet) and it has no issues switching between laptop and tablet, but going from laptop to desktop there's usually a delay, and about half the time it doesn't "bring" the keyboard with it, and usually when it does that I then can't bring the mouse back over to the laptop.
