This week on the Ident Review, we take a look at some of the most remembered characters throughout ITV history, the Weathergens!

Shivra was the very first weathergen to be shown on 10th November 1996
and Bellina (rain) was the last ever weathergen forecast on 26th October 2001.
I used to loves the Weathergens. They were so well designed and very creative.
I remember reading an article about how they were created and filmed. Brellina was one of the most difficult to film. The model had to have a hose pipe duct taped to her back to get the water coming out of her head, which had to be reapplied between takes. The same was with all the umbrellas in her lower body. Not to mention there was so much water close to the electrics in the studio, so it was quite dangerous too.
Aurora was quite tricky too. She had to have a lot of lamps under her dress during filming, which made her very uncomfortable and obviously was a big fire risk.
Norwin was always voted the scariest one, but Mirka freaked me out more with her big glowing eyes.
And I can't look at Nimbella without thinking of Mrs Merton.
Norwin is my favourite weathergen of all time
I often saw these on TV as a child. It's reassuring to know I'm not alone finding them a little scary seeing them at the time. But now as a fully-grown adult, I admire the creativity with the ideas and concepts behind the weathergens. But also on how well executed they were. The look and feel of mythical creatures/beings reflecting the weather forecast ahead. Along with the theatrical music creates that tension and emotional response to them. Some of them would look great as Disney characters.

I used to look forward to these when I lived in the UK. Nice that someone has put them online for me to enjoy again.
I think Gilda was meant to be sun with cloud as she obscures herself with cloudy cuffs. Fab stingers!
Watching all these idents and hearing the music generates so many memories of the times gone by
The ITV Weathergens will be 25 Years Old next month in November, Shivra was the first ever Weathergen to be used on the 10th of November 1996.
Norwin was the one that always terrified me when I was younger. Not so much nowadays, but I still feel the occasional shudder. I think it was the way his eyes peer out from the screen at you.
Frize scares me
Shivra gave me nightmares when I was a kid, to the point where I hid behind the sofa just incase that was the one that came up before the weather. Can't even really see that one now without looking away instead. Frice, Norwin and Mirka also creeped me out, but not to that degree. I can at least watch those ones these days haha! Nice video though!

Fantastic Review. I remember these Weathergens. Can not believe it's been 18 years since they took them off the TV.

Norwin always scares me when I was a kid. Mirka sometimes, Nimbella sometimes. Frice once. Brellina my favourite weathergen who never scares me. Helios twice. But never saw Cyan or Crystalla.
As I was an adult when these originally aired, I wasn't scared. But I can understand why children would be. They are indeed quite freaky!

I honestly thought you wouldn't have been the only one scared of Shivra back then, Frice, Mirka and Norwin are up there with him to be fair!
My favourite out of all of them is Frice. I never actually found him scary, I he was awesome to me when I was 4 years old. (19 years ago)

If I even saw Shivera, I'd run upstairs in a shot and bury my face in my parents' bed. Couldn't have been older than three, but I still found the music for these scary.

still remember watching these late at night middle of summer time in the 90s Sean Lloyd. saying massive storms could hit tonight from france. and it sure did. Also never heard the full ITV theme before welcome to ITV.
Used to love those weather things as a kid
Norwin, we nicknamed "Angry Travis", from Travis out of neighbours. And the cloud with icicles was Mrs Merton wearing a cloud hat! Shivera was just plain old "Jack Frost".

I like how Shivra lifts up their eyebrows at the end as if to say 'You got a problem, mate?'
The music and the designs of the cold/wintery ones definitely give me a Tim Burton vibe and especially Mirka. Also Angelina Jolie's Maleficent was obviously inspired by Brellina and I definitely think Nimbella must have been Lady Gaga's inspiration.
They should bring out an actual film based on these

I thought Helios was meant to me "Misty", with the sun shining through at the end to show it would clear.
Also, I know Florta was often used for Windy as well, because Norwin was considered too scary for kids to be on during the day. Florta after the Early Evening News was often a warning that Norwin would be used after News at Ten.
On 2nd March 1999 florta was played itv evening news and norwin for news at ten
Shivera freaked me out when I was a kid.

Norwin, Mirka, Firce. Those three are my favourites. Norwin representing the strong winds is so dramatic, I love that one. Mirka is awesome. Straight out of a nightmare with her eyes and her stare, the final scene is brilliant, and the Frice is just plain scary. I absolutely loved all these to be fair and always watched to see what was gonna come on.
Love everything about these and would be excited when the weather was coming on this was such a unique creative exciting and cozy idea to portray the weather they don't make television like this anymore and we need to get back to it particularly love the music my favorite is brellina she also had a ⚡ and lightening version
My favourite is norwin as he's strong winds and he don't creep me out at all im a teenager he had a storm version aswell

Yes those legal and general idents look fabulous, love to see all of them, seemed they made loads of different variants.

When you show the Alternative Idents you put the rainy one down as Gilda (Showers)
The weathergens are like gods and goddess, heroes or bosses you’d most likely see in movies or video games or Disney villains
Helios is the baby sun’s father, it would be cool and funny if that Weathergen was a nod or a reference to it,.
Mirka reminded me of Maleficent and Frice reminded me of Jack Frost. Some of them even reminded me of singers like Lady Gaga or MARINA A.K.A. Marina and the Diamonds, Florta specifically reminded me of her. I think Florta was both the funniest and the cutest one, compared to the others which were more serious.
Shivra was quite cute and quirky too. I also like to think Crystella, Frice and Shivra are a family

That one did scare me as well but it was the man that did the windy one that scared me most
Windy strongly called Norwin, he always scares when I was a 3 or 4 years old.

Was cyan for clear nights? I never quite understood
no for cooler days to come and that is my 2nd favourite weathergen behind frice
