    As always, thanks for the great tips. It's very thoughtful of you. By the way, when I travel to Kenya or Canada, the best exchange rates are in the foreign exchange bureaus. The rates from banks are not competitive. Have you ever tried going with American cash into a country then exchanging it into the local currency at a foreign exchange bureau? Just curious.

    • @usa_kenyan
      @usa_kenyan Před 5 lety

      If you've not tried it, you have to. Just go to your bank in Medellin and ask them what is their exchange rate for the day. Then go to a foreign exchange bureau and ask them what their exchange rate is for the same day. In my experience, the bureaus have a much better rate.

Can you explain how you managed to get by without it? Do you know of any problems going back to the USA without it? Also, will Colombia give me an issue 2 months from now when trying to enter because of a Brazil passport stamp?

    • @seanjones3551
      @seanjones3551 Před 5 lety +2

      I had the same problem as Sly had. Except I was stopped at baggage claim when guy asked me for me Yellow Fever certficate. I did the same thing online: I looked up "Yellow fever requirements" to Colombia, and there was no information telling me that I needed it from Brazil to Colombia. I had to stay in Brazil an extra month than planned (waiting on a ticket refund). But I ended going (in July 2018) From Rio, to Mexico City to Lima and finally Vegas and they didn't give me any issues about not having a yf certificate.
      There's a spot in Ipanema that gives yellow fever shots and certificates for relatively cheap.

    Side note re: "Yellow Fever:" The same thing happened to me when I left Rio. I got to the airport for my flight and didnt have my yellow fever for my trip to Colombia and ended up going back to the states.
    In 2020, I was coming from Lima, Peru to Colombia. I got a free yellow fever shot in Peru, but the airport never asked me for the paperwork.
    In short: get a yellow fever shot as soon as you can while overseas. Most are free. In the States, Dallas, Tx only had one facility doing testing (in 2018) and it cost $300.
