This song was previously written years ago but never went beyond a demo. Steve Smyth joined for this album and was given the opportunity to record the song with his own touch. Nevermore was actually a pretty big band. Their more popular songs have millions of listens on streaming services and some on CZcams.
Nevermore were sensacional. You could check any song from any of their albums and be amazed but I have a soft spot for the album "Dead Heart in a Dead World". Unfortunatelly Warrel Dane, the vocalist died in 2017, the band had already ended at that point. Nevertheless he was one of the top metal voices, in my opinion, so much depth, emotion and talent.
Great band, I saw them on their tour for this album, in 2005. My favorite off this album is Sentient 6, a sci-fi song about a sentient AI/robot that decides it is better than the imperfect humans that invented it. Related bands would be Sanctuary (singer, 2 albums in the late '80s and albums in 2014 & 2017-posthumous for Warrel Dane), Ghost Ship Octavius (drummer), Arch Enemy (guitarist in the Alissa era). Also, you mention Witherfall...the singer for Witherfall took over singing for Sanctuary after Nevermore singer Warrel Dane passed away from a heart attack at the end of 2017.
So glad to see you trusted me on this one. Nevermore, although not too mainstream is pretty high regarded in lots of metal circles and by enthusiasts from what I could always tell. Unfortunately their amazing vocalist passed away years ago, curiously enough in São Paulo, my home town in Brazil, of all places. Nevermore doesn't have epic 20 minute songs or anything like that but they do have a lot of prog influences going on and their sound is just solid overall, I love every single album from "Dead Heart, in a Dead World" onwards. Their guitarist, Jeff Loomis is a brilliant one, he has some sick solo albums, all instrumental. Plus, on the record that contains the song you just heard the second guitarist was Chris Broderick, which was the guitarist for Megadeth before Kiko. Anyway, great stuff, hope you get to react to more of their stuff, if not here, on the second channel.
Nevermore was so underrated it hurts. Jeff Loomis (lead guitarist) is amazing too. All of his stuff is godlike, as well as his friend and compatriot Keith Merrow. Highly recommend you check out all their stuff.

Nevermore is my favorite band. Jeff Loomis is an insane solo guitarist. They have so much good stuff its hard to choose.
