- In this week's mouthpiece comparison we are exploring Bach and Griego! Bach has been a go-to for generations while Griego has become a favorite custom option over the past few decades and since Keith is a Bach player and Alex (our newest member of the Trombone Shop team) plays Griego we thought it would be interesting to switch brands and see what life is like on the other side! We certainly found differences between the two; take a listen and let us know what you think!

You both sound great on your respective horns and mouthpieces! I've never played on Bach or Griego mouthpieces! I have a Denis Wick 9BS and that suits me nicely!
I think a good Bach 5G is very difficult to beat if you have played one for a long time. The Bach for me seems to allow alot more scope for playing in any style or genre and is probably subjectively the most versatile large bore mouthpiece around?
I have a Griego 1 bass trombone mouthpiece, which is fairly well centered, but it is harder to slot in the lower register for me. They are fine mouthpieces though, and I could use it in a pinch. I'm more comfortable on Schilke. I thought your Bach's sounded more centered too, but the Griego mouthpieces had a rounder sound.
What kind of mouthpiece do you play? Model Griego?)
@@artmusic999 I play a Schilke 59 bass trombone mouthpiece as my go to. I have a Griego 1, which I experimented with most of last year, but I had to really work in the upper register on it. I ordered an Ultimate Brass Curran model this year, and I am play testing that currently.
Bass trombonist here. In the 70s (yeah, I'm old), I tried many mouthpieces. This is what I settled on for doing all-around work (symphonic, pit, show, commercial): Bach 1.5G for bass trombone; Bach 4G when I used my bass trombone as the only trombone in a group; Bach 7C for tenor work. I only had two requirements for a mouthpiece: 1) Did it feel comfortable? 2) Big sound throughout the range? Since the 70s there have been many more mouthpieces that have hit the market. But I urge the young players to keep it simple until they find their niche.
Thanks for your great insights!
Griego for me too. Sounds more resonant.
Wow what a difrence! Greigo for me!
i want video like this thnx u
I prefer the Griego over the Bach, but i've never been a huge fan of the Bach MPs. With that being said, I LOVE Bach trombones.
