"Chaotic Stupid." One of the most annoying types I've met as a DM. And high in numbers too. At least their stupidity makes for good stories at times~

@Esu 404 Oh yeah, totally. The best incident I ever had with a Chaotic Stupid is a story I kinda want to tell at length, but I'll make this brief: He had no weapons at the start of the Hoard of the Dragon Queen campaign's opening chapter climax due to bad rolls and decided to throw a random barrel at the dragon. He rolled a Crit. It then became his thing to become a master of the newest fighting style: Way of the Barrel Basher. (He was a Monk named Firearm Testiclees.)

Frank grinned as his three children ran to him, nearly dogpiling him and pelting him with questions. They'd heard about the goblin attack in town, and worried for their father's safety.
"Aww, come on, you think a buncha mean old gobbos are gonna whup me? I ain't an old man yet, I showed 'em what for!"
He set down his youngest daughter, who'd leapt into his arms...only to be embraced next by Hitomi, who nearly strangled his neck and kissed him all over his face. "Are you all right?? How badly are you hurt??" She quickly spoke a healing mantra that healed his remaining wounds from the fight he'd been in.
"We need to talk, love." Frank said.
    ******
He explained everything: The attack by the goblins had been arranged by Fink...revenge for what they'd done to him years ago. Frank might indeed have died in the overwhelming attack, had it not been for the assistance of a group of would-be adventurers; adventurers who even now were making camp around the farm, eating or tending to their wounds as they could.
Those adventurers had begged him to go with them, as his might and fighting skills had impressed them, despite looking like a simple farmer.
As much as he didn't want to leave his wife and children, the farm was their lifeblood, and a monster attack followed by a bad season had put it at risk. They needed money, and Grognarg could only help so much.
So it was decided. When the adventuring party was ready, Frank would go with them.
"Thank you again for joining us, Farmer Brown!" The fighter of the adventuring party said with a grateful hand on Frank's shoulder.
Frank Brown, now dubbed "Farmer Big Bad Leroy Brown" by his new comrades, simply smiled and nodded in return.

Considering we'd already run into her supposed captors (and accidentally fed one to a Roper), we figured it was the least we could do.

I've had unconscionably good luck with my convention games.
My first convention game, under D&D 2nd Edition. Our characters were sent to close a demon portal. After killing some lemures, we began ascending a vast staircase, with my character (a fighter) holding the major light source, a stone with _continual light_ cast on it. Unfortunately, I reacted too late to the sound of leathery wings approaching -- by the time I thought to throw away the bright pebble, it didn't draw the demons off. Still, we managed to defeat them and get to the top of the stairs.
There, we were in an ice cave of some sort, with a ramp at one side leading down. After a quick consultation, I was the only one willing to try and plant spikes in it for a descent. I walked over, positioned myself carefully...
Did you know that ice demons could turn invisible in 2nd Edition? Yeah, I'd forgotten, too. One swift kick to my armored rear later, I was sliding down, down, down...
While most of the party handled the ice demon, the monk of the party took the opportunity to come sliding down after me. Far ahead, though, I encountered the bottom of the slide... and an ice dragon. One icy breath later, and I was at 0 hp.
It's at this point that the monk arrived, slid directly into the dragon, and fired off that most beloved of all 2e monk abilities: Quivering Palm. Scratch one dragon. Of course, we were both stuck at the bottom of the slide, and he had no healing with him... but that was the end of the game anyway.

A good tank can protect a lot of people. As it is, I play 5e as a very basic level 6 soldier (Former Commander of the Guards) human fighter of the Champion subclass - all I do is hit stuff good, and I can take a lot of damage. That being said, the guy is smart, and knows 5 languages - Linguist Feat (plan to get Observant to make him a freaking lipreader!) and has no negative modifiers.
Our DM is also generous, giving each character two magic items - one for fighting and one for non-fighting stuff. Also, we also have the backing of a town so mundane items is no issue - didn't stop at the weapon shop before you set off - actually, you did, and here's those misplaced items, along with those rations, and the rope.
As for playing - perspective players have to sit in for one session, listening to the story, and in general, figuring out if they can handle the other players. Once they do that, they can create their character by coming in before the session starts so that the DM and other players can help them build their character if they haven't already - we use the Standard Point Spread System, to make things fair.

The crowning incident was the introduction of my first character. He was trapped on an island inside a room, surrounded by water housing a terrifyingly powerful monster that could TPK us with a wipe of its tendril.
All you need to know is that “attacking the water” is now a custom of theirs every time there’s a still body.

I haven't played in years, and when I did I was always the least experienced player so I went with basic LG/NG fighter types because my heart was full of violence and I took everything Very Seriously, and that was about the only personality I could project at the time. I played in a few DnD games, some CoC, some VtM, and some Warhammer, and the most ambitious I ever got was a slimy, greedy Nosferatu detective. I kinda want to get back into playing, and I thought I'd start over with a fighter or a paladin, but I've been kinda worried I'd be boring and not really an asset. Frank is exactly the kind of character I want to play, and it's great to see him appreciated.

I did a Fallout oneshot at a convention (using StickRPG, a simple, beer and pretzels sort of system made for quick oneshots). There were about 7 players, and one DM (a LOT of people signed up, so they had 4 games going). So by 8pm we had our party together, recently awaking in a slaver camp, but before collars had been put on. With luck, wed come to consciousness while a raiding party was out, and they werent expecting us to be awake. So wed roused the party and made our move, taking the camp, and fortifying our position for when the raiding party came back. What followed was a bizarre, and incredible journey of 2 young, scared, but physically fit folk, a merchant/trader couple, a scavenger, a rather unhinged, but friendly guy, and myself (who after constantly getting lucky with my firearm rolls, and a clutch roll to throw a grenade back at the raiders, wed decided i had been in the Brotherhood because the DM liked to play along with lucky streaks, important later), all coming together, and pooling our resources and skills to take over a slaver camp, free the remaining slaves, and eventually make our way through the waste to a proper settlement, which welcomed us after learning what happened. Capped off by a massive battle as more slavers came to take revenge, and the town pledged to stand by us and fight them.
Highlight was, at some point, the crazy character encountered a radroach, meant as a random fun fight. Without hesitation, he yells "I WANT TO BE FRIENDS!" DM decides, fuck it, youre crazy, why not. Kid rolls MAX. And, on a followup check down the line, rolls MAX AGAIN. DM decides, fuck it. Youre friends now. So weve acquired a mascot and animal companion in the form of Petey the Radroach (named for the rat from Unforgotten Realms). And we fall in love with the thing, eventually. Fast forward to the final battle. Were trying to gun down slavers, and keep people safe. Crazy guy gets unlucky and ends up exposed, and almost going to fucking bite the farm. DM has Petey run interference to help. Bad rolls, and now both are exposed, though Petey moreso. At this point, two things. 1. StickRPG uses a simple d4 system. You have 2 stats. Power and Karma. Power gets added to your rolls. Its a general skill buff. Karma is a spendable resource to basically change rolls in your favor (even ally and enemy rolls). Karma exists for people who rolled low on power. You roll for power with a d4, then get karma based on 5-Power. So 4/1, 3/2, etc. Second. It is now 2am. The con day is over, and were meant to leave, but staff is willing to let us end it, but we gotta be done by like 215-220. Another of the groups has come to watch since theyd finished, and have become enthralled with our story, and Petey. Petey takes a lethal shot, and, even though we know we can win because of him taking the hit, were miserable. So are the other group. None of us have the ability to fudge it. And the DM says wed need some amount of Karma if we wanted a deus ex machina, but were short. Other group perks up. Between the 3 players still around, theyd had enough unused karma from their game to bump us up to double what the DM asked for, and their DM confirms. Our DM looks around, and decides, fuck it, hell take it. So by the magic of friendship, tears, and mostly radiation poisoning, a force from out of this world swarms around Petey. Divine, radioactive, who knows? But Petey, now larger than before, stands, and charges at the bewildered slavers, smacking several down with force and energy, before we unload into the remaining. And thus, the session ends with us celebrating our victory with the town. And we players just LOSE our minds. The 15 or so of us stood around the table give a cheer for Petey the Great (including one of the con center staff, whod enjoyed our nonsense), and end up swapping info. I still occasionally chat with some of the guys. And we will still mention how awesome it was, and how we love how we all fell in love eith a radroach named Petey.
Most pickup games ibe been in have been a mixed bag. Mostly good people with the occasional "that guy," or two mixed in. This one was incredible. Id gladly play with any of them again. And some of us are actually even trying to put together a more longer term campaign. Either something Fallout, or D&D/Pathfinder.

I had a very good One shot experience at a board gaming con.
there was a guy running a GURPS game, but it was an Aliens game, so you already know where this is going. either way, it started out with only three of us at the table. our fourth would show up later. It was early on day four of the con, the last day, so it wasn't unexpected. Either way, we started with the ever present cinematic of us stuck to a wall, with face huggers all around us, before flashing back to where we had started. I was playing the medic of the group, and decided I was going to be the young gun newbie. It helped that I was with a group of older players, and we had all seen the alien series. either way, we all played the personalities we had created, and even did our best to not meta game with our movie knowledge. After picking up our fourth, we continued on mission, seeing as it was the only way off the planet.
The mission was you standard get the VIP out, but we ran into problems immediately as the VIP decided that we had to grab something else before we left, so we traveled to another level to get him out. (by the way, the VIP had let close to a dozen personnel get slaughtered by the Aliens outside the panic room instead of opening it to save them. Same old Way-land-Yutani.) he grabbed a brief case from a room that had a bunch of chest burst prisoners, which was already setting off our warning bells as Marines, but we had a job still. unfortunately, when we reached the surface exit, there were eggs blocking our way, waiting for us to just try and move past them. Our sharp shooter took them out slowly, but more Xenomorphs were climbing the elevator and we had a billion and one problems.
It didn't help that the VIP decided to fuck us all and just started walking off. Our squad lead got zapped by a personal energy shield on the VIP when he tried to stop him, and our Sniper who was done with the guy shit, double tapped him as me and the Smart Gunner desperately tried to keep the Xenomorphs at bay. when he fell, the case deformed and a hiss of gas came out. this caused a roar to echo through the facility, and the motion tracker had exploded with contacts. We quickly figure out it was the case (we didn't know it was a royal face hugger at the time) and I slapped as much of our C4 equivalent as I could before handing the detonator to the squad leader and all four of us running like hell.
an ambush by snyth Xenomoprhs, a detonation of every explosive we had, and a short flight into orbit, all four of us reported that the entier area was infested, the VIP dead at Xeno hands, and that everything should be nuked, four fold, just for good measure.
    It was a fun game.

Best way to decide how to play your alignment is to write up an ethos, this will help determine why your character commits actions in the manner they do. This will also help justify your actions to you're dm allowing them to use your backstory as needed to bring life to youe game.
