    CYBER:
    Hlauptu, hlauptu hraðar
    Hlauptu, hlauptu burt
    Hlauptu, hlauptu frá mér
    Hlauptu, hlauptu, annars mun ég ná þér
    Ekki reyna að fara frá mér
    Farðu frá mér
    Ég vil halda í höndina á þér
    En svo taka höndina af þér, elskan
    Hlauptu, hlauptu hægar
    Hlauptu, farðu burt
    Hlauptu, hlauptu, nær mér
    Hlauptu, hlauptu, mun ærast ef ég næ þér
    Dragðu andann djúpt og hlauptu
    Ég vil vera með þér lengur
    En svo henda þér í burtu, elskan
    Skeri, skeri, skeri
    Þú ert folald, ég er meri

    CYBER:
    Run, run faster
    Run, run away
    Run, run away from me
    Run, run, or I’ll catch you
    Don’t try to leave me
    Leave me
    I want to hold your hand
    But then remove it, baby
    Run, run slower
    Run, go away
    Run, run, closer
    Run, run, will go mad if I catch you
    Take a deep breath and run
    I want to stay with you longer
    But then throw you away, baby
    Slicey, slicey, slicey
    You’re a foal and I’m a mare
    Slicey, slicey, watch your fingers, slicey
    Blood and bones in a bathtub, slicey, slicey
    First I say and then I do
    and I take you
    KLEMENS:
    I longed for, I longed for
    I longed for, longed for
    you to manage, to manage
    to catch me, catch me
    CYBER:
    Relax, relax, honey
    There’s no rush, relax, honey, honey

    you to manage, to manage (Disappointment awaits)
    to catch me, catch me (The terminal of knives)
    MATTHÍAS:

    I just have to continue my ranting about the translation. Overall it's good, but then there are things that are totally wrong like the translation of "Endastöð hnífa" to "The terminal of knives". What the effin eff is that? I would say "It will end with knives" or more literally "End station, knives".

    • @vivenn2584
      @vivenn2584 Před 4 lety +1

      Terminal
      noun
      1.
      the end of a railway or other transport route, or a station at such a point.
      So yes, it means end stop, and also the word 'knives' (hnifa) might be in the genitive case/some other case idk, so "terminal of knives" would be the correct translation.
      Even if it isn't the literal translation, it's probably closer to the imaginery/mood Hatari is trying to evoke.

    • @vigfuseiriksson4550
      @vigfuseiriksson4550 Před 4 lety

      The terminal of knives is where the knives stop. It is a good translation of the literal meaning of the words in Icelandic.

    • @pnnielsen
      @pnnielsen Před 4 lety

      @@vigfuseiriksson4550 Who says it's good? A good translation is a translation that is understood. "End Station of Knives" would make it easier to understand, IMHO. Terminal is problematic since it has double meanings, like terminal illness. So, combined with knives this Is easily the first thing a native speaker thinks of and the other meaning of terminal is forgotten since it does not directly come into context...

    • @vigfuseiriksson4550
      @vigfuseiriksson4550 Před 4 lety +1

      @@pnnielsen terminal is exactly good because endastöð in this case refers to a (deadly) knife stab in the back. And it is good because Hatari often play on the literal meanings of words in Icandic, which is not always the same as the conventional meaning.
      I am a Danish-Icelandic-Norwegian-English interpreter. This translation is, in my opinion, a cut above what you most often get. And I suspect the translator has experience working with Icelandic poetry, because he or she captures the essence very nicely indeed. Which is why I suspect John Grant.

    • @pnnielsen
      @pnnielsen Před 4 lety

      @@vigfuseiriksson4550For those that undertand both English and Icelandic, the translation may look perfect - I can totally see that. However, clealy I did not get my point through to you at all. I'm a native English and Swedish speaker and from my English point of view, I did not understand the translation until I looked at the Icelandic word Endastöð (of course I know some Icelandic too and Endastöð is totally clear to me as Swedish speaker). I know most of my English speaking friends would not understand it either. Americans don't bother to understand and the translation is lost. All work done in vain, no matter how good it might be. FWIW, I would have translated "Endastöð hnífa" with "It will all end with knives". (However, I agree with those that say that I did too much interpretation there, which is why I suggested "End station knives" instead of Terminal").

      That would not be a good translation to be honest, i.e. blade, cutter or knife. We don't actually ever say "skeri" the way it is used in the lyrics where it is actually used as the verb to cut or "að skera" so I think slicey is a better translation even though you would probably never say it that way. Just like we wouldn't actually use the word "skeri" this way. The way the word is used in the Icelandic lyrics is portraying someone slicing something, or probably somebody in this instance, so it is the action of cutting or slicing. It's not the tool being used.
