"if you walk without rhythm, you won’t attract the worm" - Christopher Walken, Padishah Emperor, House Carrino
That line "I kinda just wanna film Christopher Walken dancing" is just _such_ gold. Like it's a thing everyone instantly agrees on regardless of context or whatever, of course you want to film Christopher Walken dancing.
"Weapon of Choice" STILL slaps to this day! Great job, everyone! From the song to the video, you guys and dolls NAILED IT to the wall!
Is that William Dafoe in a baseball cap in this video?
The song's intro was pure 2000s nostalgia. I never heard the whole song but already knew that intro just from growing up through the early 2k years
One of my fav videos ever ❤️
Yeah bro still slaps.
People often want Christopher Walken to be scary & weird because he's the best at that, but those who invite him do other things like dancing are rewarded. Walken was also excellent as Leonardo DiCaprio's loving father in "Catch Me if You Can."
Christopher Walken is a riot in Hairspray
I agree with everything EXCEPT the "loving father in 'Catch Me If You Can'." He played a deadbeat dad who didn't care about his son at all.
Have you seen the old interview with Mel Gibson, who speaks of running into him at a Hollywood party? Mel, found him terrifying. The way he supposedly glided in 😯😯. Very interesting interview.
And playing a very good guy in “A Late Quartet”!👏👏👏
"If he'll do it!!........."
The excitement even now in Jonez' voice talking about the possibility of Walken....
This is really great. He loved dancing. Nobody really asked him to dance anymore.
But when he grew up in New York, and you took lessons on Saturday, and he picked dance, or his patents did.
He's Still alive.
Referring to him in the past tense makes it seem like he's dead. 🙄
On the "asking to dance" etiquette:
In "ye good ole times" - when men and women were still dancing in pairs TOUCHING EACH OTHER - it was the responsibility of the man to ask the woman to dance. Hundreds of years before that - when people were dancing country dances - men werent supposed to ask the same -woman- girl twice in an evening AND girls werent really allowed to say NO, except in the shape of "I do not want to dance with anyone anymore this evening".
It’s so Fred Astaire.
Good thing 'they' asked him to dance in Pennies from Heaven. He did great. 'Great' said with a Walken accent.
Thank you - it's easily STILL one of the best videos, EVER!
Brilliant filmmaker. Great music videos. Great movies.
You gotta love the great filmmakers' humble ways of speaking about their creation : "Oh you know we just built a hundred foot section of mirrors down the hallway"... yeah right, you guys "just" did that :O
totally
Been watching that music video for 20 years and never knew that the hall of mirrors wasn’t a part of the hotel. It’s amazing how much creativity went into this
Being a long time fan of Dune, i heard the worm part and predicted the future.
' when the technology gets good enough, they will remake Dune and Christopher Walken will be Emperor.'
I said that to heaps of my friends back in the nineties when this song came out.
I just watched the video and then came here. That video was amazing and Christopher Walken is great!
Such an incredible thing that came together.
The music video always stuck with me... enough for me to look it up on youtube many years later. I was thinking to myself, "what is the story behind this video" and BAM. Here I am
When you do great work it does not age
this is a real special and magic micro-videoclip with ChrisWalken ! the music is strangely fitting...
loved that the production did managed to make him have a magical fantasy while at the hotel...
cheers from Rio
Brilliant video. Chris Walken, amazing.
This blew my mind. I always thought Chris was supposed to be a burnt-out mobster (maybe a mob boss) who has a fun fantasy about dancing around the hotel to a song called "Weapon of Choice." I didn't know it was about an ordinary guy having a moment of zen to break the monotony of hotel travel.
Wow, I almost forgot about the Bjork dance video! "Oh so Quiet" is Epic!
Love that video, I just watched it again, great job Spike!!
Wow, I wanted to hear this story and this is where I find it. I don't know how I missed this episode of the podcast.
It was amazing! And indeed still is
Great interview! Nice that they let Spike talk without interruption.
Such an amazing video!
If they did research they would have known he's been dancing all his life.
They did do research. Spike knew he could dance, then he spoke to Christopher directly. The information literally came directly from the horse's mouth. How much more research do you want?
This video needs more views...
Thanks Spike for putting that music video together, another big early 00s childhood memory for me. Looking forward to seeing Walken as the emperor in Dune 2.
Never gets old! I love the video.
Love Christopher Walken & Love , love, love this video/video concept!
Brilliant filmmaker. Great music videos. Great movies.
What about the flip!?
Ha, the luggage carrier carousel is exactly the question I've searched for :D

My favourite video, hands down.
CW is exceptional, humble, funny…. I never get tired of watching something he is in.
that video makes me laugh still today. That was so badass
Watch Christopher dance in Pennies From Heaven. Some of the best dancing ever filmed. He not only is hoofing it old school he's kicking old school's
Everyone check out the music video what’s up Fat Lip, it’s another of Spike’s greatest works and there is very in-depth behind the scenes footage for It too! It’s also a beautiful song!
Did. Worth it. Thanks.
What I want to know is how they did the flying scenes. He's obviously on wires, but suspended from where?
They may have digitally edited out where the anchor points for the wires were.
You mean he wasn’t really flying? I wish there had Ben a *spoiler alert before I read this comment. 🥲
Probably green-screen in a studio.
@@johnedwardcabrera4559 ha...ha....!
@@suzannemcmaken4648 There's a short making of at Fatboy's Channel
Crazy! Those two questions were the EXACT same questions I had when watching. We think the same way!
Very AWESOME
wow, crazy! how things come to being
awesome!
Can t believe this amazing filmaker has few movies
❤❤❤❤❤very good song
I was told that CW tries to dance in his movies, even if it is just a few steps. Love this video
This is really great. He loved dancing. Nobody really asked him to dance anymore.

The no-hands cartwheel was a stunt double, who drops out of frame, then Walken pops back into the frame.

I once saw a ranking of music videos that went: 1) *Music video that makes the concept of a celebrity appearance hackneyed and cheap* - some random video 2) *Music video that invalidates the previous comment* - Weapon of Choice
I'd seen this video recently, but it had a "Come and Get Your Love" soundtrack, which was wonderful, but it's really cool to have found the original and to find out Spike Jonz directed it! I couldn't believe the interviewer asked Jonz whether it was really Walken on the baggage cart... I really wanted to know if it was really Walken that did insane insane gainer front flip at 1:41.
They used a stunt double for him. Look at the editing...you'll see the head shot when he 'flips' is at a slightly different angle. Same when he jumps off the table. I think he was 53 or 54 at the time, and he probably had knee problems. He was a dancer when he did stage work, and if he was in his twenties or thirties, he might have tried that flip, but at that age in the video, no.
@@jessfrankel5212 Yeah, the editing was obvious and I can't imagine anyone letting a major star take a chance like that (especially at his age at the time). Then again, when I first saw the video, I couldn't imagine that it was actually Walken doing the dancing, either.
I always thought this was part of some weird movie, I didn´t know it was a music video. It´s great!
"part of some weird movie" Well it's Spike Jonze, so you're still kinda right.
I didn't know Willem Defoe, Karl Pilkington, and Bronn, had a podcast.
Great!
But I still have my question about the luggage carrier carousel: When Christopher Walken leaves it, the carousel seems be going to smash the glasses behind...!
That’s crazy...cause Christopher Walken is a dancer.
Acting is his second love.
Why didn’t this guy know it ?
fire
There's a film version of called puss in boots where he's singing and dancing musical style and he's amazing
"And so, I talked to Norman Cook from Fatboy Slim...."
Why the freak is a troll spamming the comments under different usernames with exactly the same idiotic comments!?
It happens in nearly every youtube video. I don't think they are trolls. Must be a glitch or bots
I was thinking the exact same thing!
@@the-elliott-day it's some weird bot situation...
The video is out now in 4K.
Meh
This is the guy from the investicenter
Thank god you asked about the carroussel . Always bugged me too
Greatest music video of all time in my opinion ❤️
“Pennies from Heaven”….off the charts dance routine by Christopher in his prime.
You've had Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez for a week 🎈
What's your favourite song?
Kicking the magazines was perfect.

That guy in the red hat is looking at Jonze rather lovingly

Fun fact....he's really flying check out the mel Gibson Interview
And now he's the Padishah Emperor.
Pennies from Heaven 1981 has the best Walken dance...
For Gods sake, everyone has to lookup Fred astaire dances to Weapon of Choice . . You will be amazed.
Checking that out right now, sounds awesome, thanks!
Great conversation..
OMG, he is the buy from the investor center!
Its 50% commission on the pink sheets
I remember watching the video when I was 6 in 2005 (I was bizarrely obsessed with Wedding Crashers which Christopher Walken was in) and thinking that it was made that recently (he had to be in his mid 60’s then) but the other day I found out that the video was from 2001 and he was 57 when he did that. He looked like a 40 year old 😂
Christopher Walken? Christopher Dancin'
There is a behind the scenes video of the air scenes. There was a large support structure above that was also edited out.
2:32 that was more William Shatner 😅
Lol. I always pictured Spike LEE doing this Video. Foolish me.
Christopher Walks-In (Walken joke)
Christopher Walken did Pennies From Heaven LONG before his video got made
I've had both of those flavors of Hot Ones hot sauce. I've also had several of the flavors that aren't their own...Straight up, don't ever get "Da Bomb"...it's f'ing terrible. It's like eating hot metal.

Kinda insulting, no that I hear, "My Dad.... " It screams old. Sorry to hear that. The video is fresh, young and exciting. Glad your attitude did not come across in the film. Christopher Walken is awesome
Sorry. I can't get over the "Boxed Water is Better." What the shit
What the heck is "boxed water"? What a daft idea when I can turn a tap and get it for nothing without the waste of a box.
Walk without rhythm and you won't attract the worm.
I thought that spike was black but that's the other spike
I thought he was British. Wrong Spike.
What the fuck is with these comments
Boxed water........Boxed water?!? Boxed water is great? Hows about regular tapped fucking water for everyone, specially those whom dont have it! Boxed water, pah! What an insult!
This is the man who got Christopher Walken killed by Shai-halad because he forced him to walk with rhythm.
What the fuck are these bots
Spike Jonze id a white guy???
Wow. : /. Amazing………..yawn…….
type "WEA" into the YT search box and Weapon of Choice is the first suggestion
