How strange after listening to the Stones version for years I hear this haunting emotional version with just an acoustic piano for the first time and the words become full of meaning and paint a true picture 😎

I am not saying the piano and the voice ain't good, but this is not "Paint it black"... let me tell you why: it lacks frustration.
That's the main feeling of the thing, you can't quite take it out and expect to have the same song.
The song rides fast with almost a polyrythm to it, it feels a tad bit stumbly, because, anyone who was down there, in the cesspit of not being sure tomorrow is worth it... wound understand it.
You don't wanna be outside, you don't wanna face people, it hurts seeing beauty and happiness, cause they feel denied to you. You feel like shit, you're shit, you know that, who the hell would be attracted to a walking shadow? And so you're stumbling to wherever the fuck you're going, and then as fast as you can, home. You avoid looking people in the eyes, you are frustrated with it all, with god and the world. This has none of that. It's way too mellow.
When he rides on the ending "I wanna see it painted Painted PAINTED... PAINTED BLACK!" he's almost shouty... he's angry, cause it's bullshit. Why do I have to go through this? What the fuck did I do wrong? FUCK IT ALL! PAINT IT ALL BLACK! LET THE WORLD DROWN IN DARKNESS! It's fucking fine by me...
This is the feeling. This is why I love the song so much... because sadness is dramatized too much, but realistically speaking, unless you wanna die then and there, if you have any wish to see tomorrow and live again, you will be frustrated, and angry. Even if it were your fault, you will feel something unjust happened to you, and that is how humans function. This whole sweet voice musical while raindrops fashion themselves into flowers and the time stops... doesn't really work in real life. Stumbling through and uncertain period upset by everything and crawling for another day, confused, a bit scared... as to answer "my best" when someone asks you "whatcha doin'?"... that's the real deal.
I am yet to find any cover that understands that. Y'all need more tragedy in your lives, and it shows.

It’s a very poetic dissertation you write there. The beautiful thing about taking a song that no one expects a piano playing female to cover is that it takes on a different life, a slightly different emotion, a different feeling. Why bother covering something if you’re going to make it sound the same?
There’s plenty of melancholy, sadness and drama here, just a different kind to the original. And wouldn’t life be boring if we just spent all our time “copying”?

Again, you did do a great job with the singing and the piano, it just wasn't really "Paint it black"... quite better than other covers, by a few miles, who just went "I know what can make this better... making it REALLY slow, like it's some fucking hymn to stillness, cause we have to showcase vocals, not actually carry on meaning", or something like that. Kinda like most people try to play Hallelujah, by Leonard Cohen. They trill up and down, and don't understand that... the thing is in C.
When he says the fourth, that's an F, when says the fifth, that's a G ( the perfect fifth of C ) and then the minor fall is Am, and the major lift, F.. they just go bla bla bla bla bla over a song that was meant to do more than just be pleasing to hear. And it's sad.
Anyhow, I like ranting too much, and I'm sorry if I've been an asshole, I legit can't tell anymore.
Oh, and also, please ignore the apathy, it helps me not lose my mind completely.

I understand your emotional attachment to the original. I get that. You might feel the same thing when you listen to my REM cover of "Losing My Religion". I don't actually do covers very often, because I take more pride and interest in putting my own music out there and I'm more often than not an advocate for just listening to the original version.
