In this vid I'll provide you with 3 tips for painting large watercolors. Due to the nature of the medium, size does have an impact on the process, and needs to be taken into consideration.
Here are the tips:
1. Have enough details - With larger paintings it's even more important to make sure the painting has enough details.
2. Proportions - Sometimes when working larger, it's also harder to eyeball the proportions. Try taking more time and measuring and comparing the main elements of the scene.
3. Match your technique - Mix larger quantities of paint in advance, use larger brushes, tilt the board at an angle to help create an even wash and so on.

This is one of my favorite paintings you have shared. I love the fact that it still looks like you used minimal brush strokes, just not at all overworked. I love the two figures and how the light hits their back. Also, the tree, that's the first place I would have ended up overworking. I think I would use a different pallet, because mixing enough paint is always a problem for me. I have one of those cloverleaf pallets with deep wells, I think I would stick to only 3 or 4 colors and use the larger pallet until I got a feel using so much paint. Just thinking out aloud. I really do appreciate your videos. Thank you.

How did you get enough paint mixed in the size pallete you have?
I don't know how I missed this video! Beautiful piece as usual! I have been dabbling with painting larger myself! as you mentioned it's VERY easy to be off with proportions when you get into scaling up. For me I find that a 1" grid gives me the basic details without getting bogged down in them. It also saves me a TON of time. Some artist's see a grid as "cheating", I see it as a time saving tool. To each their own!
This is just what I was looking for. I’m going to start painting larger watercolors. I would love to see more videos of your in progress painting in this larger size.

you will get good outcomes with large painting if you use hake brush's to do the bulk of the work and then go down to the brush you showed us for detail work. full size painting works well with large expressive brush stroke and a good balance in the composition with blank areas and areas of intense detail, bockingford rought is a good full sheet to start with, thanks for the video.

Painting on larger papers isnt as simple and same as painting on smaller paper. It is a whole different thing that need learning and practicing from scratch. I had similar peoblems. Thanks for your advice. Yesterday I bought many papers and I wont be afraid to ruin them with bad paintings

Very good tips about large paintings. I tend to lose control of my brush strokes with them so then go back to small, my husband discourages me from painting too large ( 11"/15" )only. I'd like to paint larger stuff though.

love it! i wont be painting as large but ill be painting a lot bigger than im used to painting! Excited but nervous cus im joining an art contest very late and the deadline is very close!
Thank you very much for the tips. This is exactly the kind of advice I’m looking for. I struggle with keeping the wetness of the paper to ensure enough flow with the paint.. and to strike the balance not to dilute the paint too much so that it loses the vibrancy once it’s dried.. do you need to constantly spray water onto the paper to keep the paint workable? Any advice ? Thanks heaps.

Cool artwork, I like the back of the left women. I would be afraid to paint on this large piece. My brushes are also to small. My largest was A4 but my comfort zone is A5 or smaller. Thanks for sharing

Good Vid overall. Would like to watch how you attack this size painting process. Even if it were to be broken down into 2-4 separate vids that eventually show the whole in parts. I have painted a few large painting wit acrylic & oils, but only one of this size with watercolor. Not easy at all. So maybe a thought to consider. Keep up the fun ideas & tutorials. So that's a half sheet? It's huge. I don't think I could even do a painting that size. It's beautiful btw. I have a tendency of overworking my paintings. I really need to focus on how to be a minimalist and be happy with the result.
22 by 30 inches is a full Imperial sheet.
I am little confused:
Full sheet is 22x30”
Half is 15x22”?
I have half sheet waiting for me! Intimidating!
What about stretching?!!!!
