  • No shortcuts. Moonwalking is difficult. It's harder than walking, and learning how to walk is absurdly hard -- watch any baby trying to figure it out.
    Learn the principles behind the illusion and tips on how to really sell it.

    This is the best tutorial on moonwalking. I used to try it for fun (in my much younger days) but couldn’t quite figure it out. Watching this, now, I think I could have done it properly. Ironically, though, I now have only one leg so I don’t think I will be able to pull it off (the dance, not my leg - I can pull that off). Life is just full of surprises.

    Very helpful and thorough! I never realized so much was going into everyday walking. I think artists of all disciplines have a vigilance about seeing things more profoundly. And as we have always heard to get great at anything takes tremendous amounts of practice. I have a daughter who draws and paints, she has taught me so much about how artists are seeing the world with a more detailed focus and then practicing over and over regarding what the focus is on...this seems to be true with drawing, painting, writing, danciing playing musical instrument, singing or whatever your creative love tends to gravitate toward. Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you so much, Albert! I knew how to do this for approximately 15 minutes back in 1984 . I was in the Navy at the time. I'm a few years older, now, and suddenly need to learn this again (I don't think we can term this "mid-life crisis" stuff at my age-- 64. )
    Always enjoyed dancing, and even now I'm still very energetic when I dance. Thirty-something women ask me to dance, sometimes (well, used to, before Covid-19). Perhaps now I can reconnect with those 15 minutes!
    Again, thank you, Albert-- you broke this down perfectly. (I might catch on in a month or two-- or hopefully by the time the Covid has passed or been defeated). I've probably got lots of time to practice, but I certainly see some fun in the future!

  • @mostguitarswins
    @mostguitarswins Před 4 lety +11

    Thanks for the detailed explanation. I've been practicing for a while and what I find hard is supporting the weight of my body on the ball of the foot. Walking normally the weight is spread across the whole foot which also makes it easier to balance. I think shoes make a difference too, specifically how wide and stiff the soles are.

  • @akshunhiro
    @akshunhiro Před 4 lety +3

    I have always wanted to know how it worked. MJ just made it look so effortless! And while I instinctively knew it was about transferring weight onto the wrong foot, it still didn’t make any sense to me. This video was totally awesome for that! But not only just understanding the Moonwalk, but also understanding how and why we walk naturally, plus the assumptions we make observing the action. Once we’ve learned a skill, like walking, we take it for granted and rarely take the time to fully understand the action after it’s been assimilated. Great video! Thanks!

    To call this a brilliant presentation would be an understatement.
    You go beyond teaching; you are a facilitator.
    This comes from a guy (me) who was born and will die with both feet in the same shoe.
    I dance like a Neanderthal on Valium, therefore I abhor the dancing scene.
    I never went for the girl who dances like a breeze; I went for the one who likes movies.
    I don't care. But seeing you explaining & describing, making it looks easy and logical to understand, well, Albert, all I can say is: YOU, YOU (as Robert De Niro says it to Billy Crystal on Analyze This)

    I like you going the mechanics of motion instead of just showing slow motion. Thanks definitely subscribing, hoping for more detailed instrucion on different moves. Don't have alot of extra time for extended videos but I like yours, didn't think it was to long because it yielded alot of valuable information to examine and learn.

    Arrgghh Thank you! I am not a dancer (took a few summer tap dance and swing dance classes at various points, but that's it) but I have always thought this would be a fun thing to learn. Every time I have looked up tutorials though the first thing that happens is I start wobbling and have no clue where the weight is supposed to go. In the tap dance classes I did I was that annoying person asking where the weight was supposed to be and how to transfer it all the time because I kept getting stuck not being able to go to the next move or almost tipping over otherwise. I have no natural sense of where it should be so I need to be told, lol. I don't know why it never occured to me until tonight to literally just... include the word "weight" in my search for a moonwalk tutorial. I just did it and this is the first thing that popped up. It's exactly what I was looking for. I'm gonna literally just practice the first step over and over on each side independently until I can shift the weight to the correct foot at the correct time properly.
