    I was in the market for a new quadrant after hearing of the dire need to upgrade the stock ones and I crawled up in the car to look at what shape my stick one was in and to my surprise it had been done already I felt an extreme sense of euphoria and joy running all over me because the best mod is a free mod

    Just installed a Steeda double hook quadrant and adjustable cable in my 95gt. Best method i found is to use the closest hook on the quadrat, adjust the fire wall adjuster all the way in, adjust the cable so the fork has tension, this was 1/2 way down the threads of the cable end, then pull the cable away from the firewall with your left hand and adjust the firewall adjuster out enough so you can just slide a dime between the plastic cable end and firewall screw. This method gave me adequate pedal free play and clutch engagement from the floor.

    It is hard to believe that there are mustangs out there with the stock clutch quadrant but I did one last year.

    I use the middle hook and love it. Had it on there over 20 yrs now. Simple and less delicate than the plastic one.

    Good ole plastic quadrant that will be replaced at some time, the aliuminum quadrant is a beautiful piece, and a must needed replacement.

    Uh…what happens when you tighten the firewall adjuster all the way out….asking for a friend.

    • @OctaneSlain
      @OctaneSlain Před 4 měsíci

      Means you have way too much cable slack. You need to tighten it up at the fork.

  • @JohnThomas-vb9se
    @JohnThomas-vb9se Před měsícem

    You just pull up on the pedal to release the tension on the factory quadrant and cable.

    I had to go to the 3rd hook to get my clutch to disengage fully and not have the clutch grab right off the floor! good tip Brew2L, thanks!

    Curious how this quadrant worked out for you. I added a adjustable fw adjuster aand with adjuster all the way in I can't get the clutch to stay grabbing when I get in to it, she wants to slip. I have a single hook aluminum quadrant but was told to go to a 2 hook and may bring my clutch back to what it was before I added the fw adjuster. Just came across this vid and never knew there was a 3 hook quadrant.

    Man that little piece on the stock quadrant was a pain to get it out .did the aluminum quadrant and firewall adjuster. I put mine on the middle hook and it works beautiful. The third step felt very stiff for me .good video I'm sure it helped alot of people on the channel

    Great video. How about a part two on how to adjust the cable? I’m trying to get mine dialed I. Now but I haven’t found the sweet spot yet. I get a lot of squealing when I push in the clutch but only after about 15-20 minutes of shifting/driving. If I go out the next the day the squealing is gone at first but then starts again after 15-20 minutes of driving. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @BREW2LFOXBODY
      @BREW2LFOXBODY  Před rokem

      Honestly that’s how I adjust the cable in the video. Just a bit of slack on the clutch fork then fine tune it from the firewall adjuster. Your clutch fork could be bent of the pivot stud could be badly worn if you can’t get it to adjust out properly

    • @thefoxlife3431
      @thefoxlife3431 Před rokem +1

      @@BREW2LFOXBODY I’ve been told to adjust the firewall adjuster until you can pull out on the cable just enough to fit a penny between the cable housing and the adjuster. I have a new pivot ball and fork. I’m afraid the new throw out bearing is bad with only 100 miles on it. I used one that came with my McCleod clutch.

    • @BREW2LFOXBODY

  • @anepick9256

    When installing an adjustable cable and firewall adjuster, does the throwout bearing need to be contacting the clutch fingers when the cable nuts are tightened against the clutch fork? Sorry if it seems obvious, but I've been reading that there shouldn't be an air gap of any kind.
    After this, I assume you then adjust via the firewall adjuster, etc.

  • @jimmarco9356

  • @TommyT236
    @TommyT236 Před rokem

    What is the difference in the hooks? Clutch engagement? I’m guessing 3rd would be less push and first would be closer to the floor?

    How did you lock the adjuster mechanism? On the top to lock the adjuster in place? Due to the frame there’s no space to set mine and I’m not completely sure but I think it is loosening slowly

    If the clutch cable is frayed and streched will the fork still move but not allow to come out of gear....

    Do you know how to fix a steering wheel that wiggles back and forth while driving? I have to keep turning it left and right cause it's so loose, I changed the rack that came with all new parts, got rid of the old rag joint but it's still wiggles around.

    I'm not a fan of these constant contact always spinning TOB.
    My OCD suggests getting a hypodermic and injecting grease into the new TOB. Using the non self adjusting cable quadrant and giving it a hair of slack, and maybe a light spring to tug on the fork, keeps the TOB from spinning 100% of the time.

    • @jeffchan9176
      @jeffchan9176 Před rokem +2

      Nothing wrong with a plastic quadrant with a stock diaphram. It's heavy pressure plate and age that wreck plastic quadrants.

      @@hotrodray6802 Age as in the plastic is over 30 years old. People question Ford's decision to use plastic but with a stock diaphram a plastic quadrant is fine. It only becomes a problem when they become 20 years old and then a heavy pressure plate gets installed. Then you are moving 3300lbs with plastic.

  • @jeffchan9176
    @jeffchan9176 Před rokem +1

    Adjust for no play. The throwout bearing should be slightly preloaded.
