  • In this video I cover the brand new 2023 Trek Marlin+ lineup. These are brand new electric mountain bikes from Trek, and have a completely new frame, building off of the very popular Trek Marlin frame. I’ll give you all the details on these new bikes and compare them to the normal Trek Marlin gen 3 counterparts to show you what changes when you add a battery and motor to a marlin. I hope this helps you figure out which bike is the best for you!
    This video covers:
    Overview of Trek Marlin+ ebike lineup
    2023 Trek Marlin 6 Gen 3vs Marlin+ 6 ebike
    2023 Trek Marlin 8 Gen 3 vs Marlin+ 8 ebike

    2024 February Update: The bikes have been released in the U.S.! Marlin+ 6 costs $2,699.99 and the Marlin+ 8 costs $3,499.99 so less expensive than originally suspected.

    Literally every brand needs a proper guy like you to go through their bicycles. Would be nice if Trek paid you to get a proper cameraman for some decent close up B roll of the actual Bikes instead of pictures.

    Nice video thanks! The 15mph I learned is for non-USA limitations in some countries. US will have a Class 1 e-bike rating max at 20mph. I have a Trek Fuel EXe with a 50nm TQ motor and 50nm is still a lot but still gives you a nice workout. The marlin 6+ is a bummer with such bad wheels from the gen2 marlin wtf? The 8+ gives you all the excellent (necessary IMO) upgrades for only $600?? Wow trek nice job. I'd get one of these for my wife if it was already out in the US.

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  Před 9 měsíci

      You're welcome! I agree that the US bikes will likely top out at 20mph. And yeah those wheels are not great for normal bikes let alone ebikes, so that's unfortunate. Should be fine for roads and light trails though if someone is just using the bike for those purposes.

    They are definitely in the US. Hard to find online, trek stores have them in stock.

    Any thoughts as to why they skipped the Marlin 7 for the e-bike upgrade?

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  Před 9 měsíci +1

      My guess is that they figured they didn't need that many ebikes for the marlin series. If they made a Marlin+ 7, it would be somewhere between $3,000 - $3,700 so the price increments would be closer together in the lineup, and I feel like the components wouldn't be that different between the bikes so it would be more confusing on which one to buy.

    if the battery is not removable what do you do when you need to replace the battery

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It’s not easily removable / intended to be removed by customers, but there is a way to remove it that service technicians at a bike shop can perform. I haven’t seen the bike in person yet so not sure exactly how it’s done but that’s usually the case if we have to service these bikes at the shop.

    I think trek missed the mark on this in the USA. I do love the Marlin and I have a number seven with a mid drive kit. I was very excited to see trek was going to be releasing these bikes. Unfortunately, I believe there is a very high number of buyers of the marlin line that are looking for a commuter bike that they can take off road on the weekends. on the commuter end, I believe is where trek has missed the Mark, when it’s competition are these online bikes that are cheaper, but faster. They do not have as high-quality of parts. But most of that market is unaware of this and the results that they give. A real shame as I believe trek could do well in this market.

    @Lee-ic2yn Před 7 měsíci

    Isnt thiis just a powerfly?

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  Před 7 měsíci

      Yeah it’s similar, but powerflys have more powerful motors with 85Nm of torque instead of the 50Nm on this bike, and they have a longer range of 3-5 hours instead of 2-4 on the marlins, and have a bigger battery size of 500Wh or 625Wh instead of 400Wh

    3k for suntor fork even on a e bike no thx

    • @aznguyen316
      @aznguyen316 Před 9 měsíci +1

      can't believe they specced it with a coil fork. Even a suntour air is decent. Minimum should have been the recon with the 8+ getting a 35 Gold RL. Plus side is tapered headtube means a much wider range of fork options.. but why not give a decent one in the first place.

    the price is to much for a midrange hardtail. Not worth it. With this money you can almost get slash 8 or fuel ex 8. I also dont see the use of this bike. the motor is mostly needed to get laps on the trail and skip the pedaling up. This bike isnt really an enduro bike so its kinda pointless. I had marlin 8 and loved that bike, but motor seems out of place for that money. I switch 9.8 xt slash last year. If im getting an ebike it will be rail 9.8 to go with my slash

    • @Mark-jb9hx
      @Mark-jb9hx Před 4 měsíci +1

      You are all over the place comparing an eMTB with a FS analog MTB. Then you try to compare a $3,500 bike to a $9,000 bike. That is just silly. A 44lb hard tail is still hard to swallow but anything over 50lbs is a non-starter.

    I guess trek was too far along into development to pull the plug on this new bike. I would buy it if i could but who can afford anything anymore after dealing with pandemic prices? The industry is crashing hard and these bikes won't sell at those prices.

    Buy a Marlin 6, put a Bafang mid drive on it. Get more than double the output at half the cost. And you can remove/replace the battery yourself. This Trek ebike wouldn't be a serious MTB anyway. Its a grocery getter.

  • @wvjeepguy8178
    @wvjeepguy8178 Před 4 měsíci

    These prices are a complete deal breaker. This class of bike needs to stay at $2000 or less to be even remotely relevant.
