There are 14 canonical Oz books, he didn't actually create any part of the first Ruth Plumly Thompson book (The Royal Book of Oz) that was just advertising. Other books related to Oz are: The Life & Adventures of Santa Claus, The Magical Monarch of Mo, The Enchanted Island of Yew, Queen Xixi of Ix & Sky Island, among others.

Basically any Children's Fantasy Book Baum wrote is part of the OZ canon...huh he invented the Shared Universe thirty nine years before the comic book industry

@@snakes3425 Well, except for the 'Electrical Fairy Tale', The Master Key, which is pretty much a love letter to Robert Stanton Baum, his electricity-hobbyist son.

@@snakes3425apparently Queen Xixi made a cameo appearance before Baum wrote a book around her. The book featured some really weird villains.

Watching the Muppets version as a kid I remember being impressed they kept the book accuracies. Plus Miss Piggy as all 4 witches was a treat.

No. Wendy's mascot is actually founder Dave Thomas's actual daughter as a girl characterized in cartoon form.

I would like to read the original books.I watched a documentary about the making of the movie and It made me see the movie in a completely different way.The movie now seems thrown together and badly done.

@@chestyvulva I've read versions of the Marvelous Land of Oz, Ozma of Oz, Tik-Tok of Oz, and even the Wonderful Wizard of Oz in an older edition that seems to have been made around the time the 1939 film was popular, though the book itself is the original. however, I have been intending to get the Books of Wonder editions of those books so I can read them as close as possible to as they were. also, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz was the first novel my father and I read together, and I was in either preschool or kindergarten during that time. sorry to be so long, but I just wanted to profess my love for the Oz books.

I have long been a purist for Baum's books. In 1965, I remember maintaining that the REAL story was the book, not the movie. To which my father countered that neither was real; the book was equally fiction! Anyway, as popular as the movie is, I hold to Baum's books; and I'm not a fan of the Ruth Plumly Thompson books. There are some later sequels I don't entirely hate, like Martin Gardner's homage Oz book. Anyway, welcome to the Oz book lovers!
