**BIG Question**… Vlogmas 🎄… do you guys enjoy Vlogmas or even watch videos that often? I care a lot about creating solid, engaging, helpful content. That will never change, but would you _honestly_ still watch a video that is _way_ LESS edited or keep this style and upload when I can?
I wouldn’t be able to do a video everyday for Vlogmas but definitely more often than I have been uploading!
As always, much love~
Personally, I do enjoy a good vlog. I'll be here for them :D
Definitely Vlogmas! It’s still a fresh perspective on day to day activities! MORE CONTENT THE MERRIER!!!
Obvious YES from me! You can have both super slick super informative videos and vlog style too! Queen of both styles :)
Hey, this stuff is GOOD TO KNOW. But a little of both would be cool. It's nice to get have impressions and get to know ya too 🙂
I will be watching absolutely anything you post! Love all the info! It's super helpful as I make decisions for what to do, when & how I will spend time in S Korea next year. Vlogmas sounds great! I'm here for it!! Thank you so much!!
Thank you! We cant wait to go this Dec.
I was stressing about this for my trip in a few months, so this was very helpful! Thank you :)
Thanks for all your tips !
Thanks for the video Megan!
What plan should I get if I'll just be there for 1 day? I'll only go into Seoul Station and maybe a couple of museums.
Hey, I am a new joiner Pilot with Korean Air & this was very helpful 👍
I came across this video while searching for SIM cards in Korea as I am new to Seoul. Picked up my SIM card today, the price has gone up a bit guess as the video is an old one but still among the cheapest to buy. Thanks very much for the video cheers 🥂
Thank you for the info!! it helps a lot I am Korean who haven’t been there for so long and now learning from your video lol😂
ㅋㅋㅋ I’m so happy I could help 🤭🫂✨

Love all your videos, they are so entertaining 💕

Good to know for my next trip. Sim cars from the airport was very expensive!

Holy cow! That's a lot of helpful info! 😁 I like the addition of Pirate Dan, he makes a good matey (a little pirate humor there 😉)
Thankful for his advice as well 🤗
Well, all this lengthy korean sim card stuff sounds complicated to me but one thing is you looked so cute in this video haha 😄!

That's really good and helpful advice and information Megan, it must be a pain to register SIM Cards from a different country and the one where people can donate a coffee to you sounds really cool. We also have QR Codes in Melbourne, Australia and we use an app called Service Victoria to scan our code in. I like the beanie you are wearing in the video, suits you very well :)
Thanks friend!!
Looks like so many countries have the QR codes now 😳 Technology is crazy…
@@MeganOsten you're welcome and that's true.
Thanks for this Video i will go to Korea in around 3 weeks and i was searching for a cheap Sim card option!
Happy to help 🥰✨
@@MeganOsten just a quick question to make sure , the sim comes with a phone number right ? Because I heard you need to give the immigration a Korean phone number where they can call you while you in quarantine
Thank you so much for your videos! I’m moving to Korea in 3 months and I’m trying to just osmosis as much information as I can 😂😂 I grew up in Thailand so I’m excited to get back to Asia but Korea has so many specific little differences it makes my brain rattle a bit! Your videos are so helpful :)
I'm so excited for you to see Korea for yourself and get back to Asia! There are many things to learn but you'll still have a great trip! Feel free to reach out with any questions up might have ❤️✨ Safe travels~
Excellent video!
I’m so glad it’s helpful 😊♥️
Hi Megan, thanks so much for these videos. It’s a big help as I plan my trip to Korea this May. I was wondering if eSIM plans are a good option as well? My friend said he went that route when he went to Japan, but thought I’d check your thought. Thank you again!
Definitely! That's exactly what I'm doing. Airalo offers good plans inc data only.
The most helpfull video I ever watched ❤ thank you so much, I’m going to Korea with a D-4 visa and I’m struggling a lot with so much but this really helped me with one of the things that were worrying the hell out of me! Thank you so much!
If you have any tips or anything to say about international banks, currency exchange or how to create an account to live there while receiving money from outside of Korea please make a video about it ❤
Great video idea! I’ll add it to the list ❤️🫂
Woot I’m early! Love your videos
Thank you ❤️❤️

Team work makes the dream work!
So, Trazy actually has food delivery options as well as transportation from quarantine to your hotel. I was not going to use any public transportation. You just have to book in advance and request a license plate as well as the drivers information to give to quarantine. They have everything on their site for short-term travelers. They do have a limited time slot for ordering food.
Also, I received my sim card prior thankfully because we weren't really allowed to step away from the designated area for quarantine shuttles. They had everything roped off or tented.
And some clubs or lounges, you (have) to have a QR just for access. So, that was interesting but some will accept a vaccination card even from the states. Each place is different.
Thanks for the insights friend 🥰
TQ SO MUCHH U R AN ANGEL ❤️✨🙏
SO helpful definitely going to the 10$ place
Happy to help! 🥰
Hi, Megan
Do you find that "check-in by a phone call" is still necessary these days? I am planning for my Korea trip next spring, and I am trying to decide which SIM Card plan I need. I am going to be there for about 5 weeks. Would the data-only plan be sufficient, considering that these days all communications usually occur on kakaotalk?
Thank you for upload video! I’m traveling Korea next week where can I buy prepaid SIM card delivery to my US home?
Hi Megan! Currently in Seoul and your videos have been so helpful in preparation for this trip! Q: Our sim we got works but because it doesn’t have a Korean # associated with it, cannot use for things I,e:KakaoT😢. Do you have any recommendations for an esim we can get asap? Thanks much!!
Super helpful. Question: the new iPhones (14 and 15) do not have a sim card slot. Do the vendors sell e-sims too?
Fabulous video, Im terrible when it comes to phones and SIM cards so this video will be a great help. I was going to go to Korea for a holiday in May of last year, now hoping to go sometime next year.
In New Zealand pretty much any indoor or outdoor public facility (retail/hospitality etc) has a QR code on a bit of paper or poster at the entrance that we scan using an app on our phones before going in. Is it basically the same thing?
I hope you can make it here soon! I’m glad you found this helpful!
Yes! Same thing!!
I’m hopefully coming in September. For two months so would you say trazy is the best to use. (I’m from uk)
Very helpful! So they deliver Trazy cards to US as well? That's something new to me. Thanks again.
Happy to help~ 🥰✨
Hey! Would you recomend getting a wifi egg as well?
Hi Megan. Thanks for your information. I wonder, Where can i buy chepest sim in seul. Is it expensive in the terminal?
Hi Megan, can I use the trazy sim card for the qr code procedure and in general to send/receive the covid test results? (it's still not clear to me how it all works tbh XD)
Megan, is it still needed to checkin at the restaurants using phone number? (since pandemic measures were lessened)
thank you))
FYI, not all phones have SIM cards, if you have an Iphone and with Verizon, you can purchase an international plan per month or a Travel Pass. Call you local network how to avail.
Hi Megan, do you know if Trazy sim cards can be renewed for less than 30 days after the first prepaid 30 days? I will need 34 days of data and outgoing call services. TIA😊
Hi Megan, thank you for this helpful video! During the SIM card activation process (I bought mine on Trazy), it necessary to provide your passport details including a picture of it?
Usually - yes! Once I activate mine I will let you know
Hiii, this was soo informative, thank you so much 🥺
Also I have a request if u can just tell us the location, the name of the place where u got your sim card because I'm planning to attend snu, I'll be here for Atleast 1 year .
question! when you change your sim card, does it wipe all the apps/messages/info on your phone??
Hiiii pirate dan was there 😆
Can you make phone calls with people outside Korea (for instance europe) ? or Only local phonecalls?
Hi!
How about for short term stay, like 5 days, What is the best SIM card to buy & how much?
Traveling to Korea for a week in a September and then another week to Japan. Since I will be there for short periods is it still worth purchasing in advance or same day arrival suffice or even necessary to acquire at all?
Thank you in advance 🙂
Hi, Megan, I i will be in Korea for a week in October. Should i get a sim card and how do i get to the trazy slim card web site?
Hello thank you for your helpful video. Im in vacation in seoul right now looking for a sim card. But can you please show us on a map clearly where i can buy this simcard thank you so much. I really like your Chanel
Is it not possible to put your name on a waitlist for a restaurant if you do not have a Korean number? I was thinking of just getting the T-mobile international plan.
Hello! Thank you for this video. In regards to your last statement about alternative ways to check in to restaurants/cafes, I just heard that as of this week, due to the new variant, there is a new regulation no longer accepting these alternative ways to check in. Could you verify this or make a new video about it? Thank you so much!
Hopefully you watched my updated 1-2 minute videos that explain the new rules!!
They are still accepting alternative ways to check-in (a.k.a. calling a phone number, signing in with a piece of paper).
@@MeganOsten ohhh okay! I will rewatch them because I must've missed that part. The girl that told me must have misheard or something. Thank you megan!!
Hey Megan - can I ask whether you made the last train video - I think I saw 4 of the 5. Very useful. Does that mean for restaurants if we are just visiting we can just leave out Korean number - since we don't have a QR code (from my understanding)...Thanks for useful videos.
No train video yet but I have the footage (just need to edit it and I sadly have other videos I need to post first)… but I’ll definitely upload it eventually!!
But QR codes aren’t needed anymore 😊✨
Hey Megan. Great video. The Kravel sun looks interesting and I’d also would appreciate your thoughts on what plan I should go for. Here’s some info:
I have a family plan of 4 thru Verizon tho my mom and I will be going to Korea for a month. Biggest priority is unlimited data/internet (could always use Google voice/FaceTime with that), or… at least enough data. Texts would be nice but can also go they voip,, so next would be local calling (unless that works with voip). Affordable would be nice,, but reliable is better. Are you familiar with Google fi, airalo, us mobile, or other intl/Korean sims? We struggling here and if took a couple mins to help my mom and I out you would be an angel- such a big help And it would mean so much to us. Thank you so so much!!!
🙏🙏🙏❤️
Superb
I really appreciative the comment love!
Hello... instead of inserting the SIM in my phone can I use the SIM on a pocket wifi? I have an openline pocket wifi.. can I just bring it along and get a korean sim upon arrival and ill just connect to the pocket wifi?
For the Trazy sim card, do you know the phone number it gives you ahead of time? Or do you have to wait for it to activate to find out your number? Super helpful video!
I believe you get issued a Korean number but international roaming is not possible, you can only use the SIM once in South Korea.
Do you know of the address where Dan goes to renew his phone plan?
The US version iPhone 14s only support esims luckily when ur new phone is unlocked u just simply take the QR code then ur sims will be activated embedded into ur phones ^^
Can you please give the adress for the place to get the sim card that Tom explained? please please :)
Hello
Trazy offers 4.2usd for simcard data only. Can I use directly if I want to use only data or navigation?.. Do I have to pay more if I want use data only or its included 4.2 usd?
I will be on a one week trip to Seoul in a few days. I’m planning to get an Esim because my phone supports one, and i don’t want to remove my physical sim card that I’m using everyday. Do you think thats a good idea?
I'm planning on doing this since last time I went, to get to the airport, etc. Was horrible or cabs. My concern is, can't I use my normal phone number to speak through WhatsApp with family and have the new SIM card as well? Like a dual SIM Card
hello Megan, thank you for such a good and informative video. Regarding the trazy SIM card, how can you extend the period of the plan? I was reading you can do it for up to 90 days but how is it done? my plan will end soon and I have not yet gotten my ARC card. thank you !
You’ll have to contact customer service (and they’re usually very quick to respond and speak English!)
@@MeganOsten thank you so much 😊
So I use KakaoTalk with my US number, if I change the sim to Korean phone number will everything still be? Will my chats be lost? Just to make sure with the Tracy sim once I land I can automatically call right?
Can you please give us the exact location in honghea to get the SIM Card ?
What do i need to choose medium or large ? Thats the option when you buy.
Megan. I’m visiting for 10 days in September/October. What SIM card do you recommend?
환영합니다 Welcome!
Hi! I'm desperate haha. I need to be able to make calls and receive calls/have a Korean phone number. But I have an iphone14 so I can only do esim. Do you have any options for that? Thank you!!
So, you’re applying for the ARC while you’re still on the sim card/temporary phone plan, but then isn’t that temp phone # what is attaching to the ARC? Is it just a simple thing to change it later when you have a long-term phone plan/phone #?? I’m arriving in Seoul next week and am PANICKING! Ha 😵💫
Hi I'm here in Korea for 4 months. One month is already over. Haven't yet bought a simcard. Managing with wifi. My question,: does one need a mobile number for ARC?
Great potential to be a million subscriber youtuber. Smart and attractive.
I just ordered the sim card you advised, I got the premium plan, it seemed like the best option overall thank you for the tip!
I have a question though: in the k-eta they ask for a korean number, can I put the oone if this sim or do I need to use the one of the accommodation I will be staying in the first leg of my trip?
You can put your own number! ☺️👍
@@MeganOsten oh ok! I thought maybe they needed it in case they want to call and check you have accommodation booking. Thank you!
I like your video style, but I think they could be less edited and still super useful. For me, the reason i wanted to watch your vlogs were they had super up to date information...so, if you keep adding content on “current” topics, then I think the speed of publishing would actually be more useful than highly edited.
Thank you for answering the question! Very good advice 🥰❤️
I second this!!
Is it convenient to get a SIM card for a 5 days trip to Korea?
I’m researching that I have to unlock my iPhone? So im trying to see where I can do that, where can I do that?
I'm planning my first trip to Korea in the summer June 9 - 29 ( this also my first international trip). Do you think anything will change like shorter quarantine times or expanding fully vaccinated quarantine exemption to include tourist as well ?
Currently quarantine has been shortened to 10 days (so that’s some progress) but I don’t think it will go away completely anytime soon. As far as opening things up more…. It’s possible that they’ll change things for vaccinated individuals but I truly don’t know when… June does seem like a good distance away though! Hopefully they’ll change things 🥺 but Covid cases are still pretty dang high so…. It’s really hard to say. I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful!
@@MeganOsten You have been a great help, I appreciate you
Very helpful! Are there also alternative check in possibilities at stores like daiso or supermarkets if you don’t have your arc and qr code yet?
Usually grocery stores/some cafes/restaurants will have a phone number that you call as a "check-in"! If not, there's also a paper you can sign-in with your information ☺️
Hey megan! Im just ending quarantine now and i did not had a chance to buy sim card. I did not applied to ARC yet and im not is seoul im in daejeon. Should i go out and buy card number or trazy is better for me?
While you wait on your ARC (if you are allowed to get one) you can go to many stores and buy a temporary SIM card!
First trip to Korea. Can't thank you enough for your wonderful videos. Ive traveled all over the world but Korea seemed to pose a real challenge for independent travelers. I feel like I am back in 1970s with no electronic connections and just a paper map. Your videos are calming and informative. Keep up your efforts. Just wish there was a way to see when each was created.
How long do you plan on staying in Korea? I would love to meet up when I'm there in the spring!
Have no idea just yet! But we shall see 🥰 Safe travels either way!!
Hi Megan! I will be flying to Korea for travel with quarantine exemption soon. I am vaccinated overseas. With the new mandated vaccinated pass requirement for restaurants, will this mean that I will not be able to enter?
Hmmm… what day do you fly? Currently, even if you have an exemption paper, quarantine exemption has been suspended (see my short 1-2 minute videos I posted updating everyone). This will last until the 16th but could be extended.
I answer this question and others in those short update videos! But you’ll be able to get in, you just might have to go alone.
Hey when you get this simcard can you call and text your family immediately with your regular phone number or do you have to only use apps to contact them through the wifi/data it gives you? Im just really worried about not being able to immediatley contact my family for my trip in 2 months.
With these SIM cards - yes you can! Or you can connect to the airport wifi~
Hey! So if you get a Trazy sim card, and after that you switch to the new Phone Service you mentioned, you would basically change your number.. Wouldn’t be an issue for your ARC?
Coming to Seoul in Feb as an exchange student 😍
You just call the embassy, tell them you changed your phone number, they’ll ask what you new number is and they’ll update it right away ☺️
TRAZY has an option where you can pick up their sim at the "quarantine inspection area" - do you know if that's accessible for foreigners before they get whisked off to the government quarantine facility? Or as you said in your video, is the sim option at the CU better? Do they also offer 30day packages?
You can always email customer service and ask! I’ll let you know if I find anything out myself.
CU is going to be more expensive (since it’s in the airport and everything is more expensive in the airport haha). I had someone tell me the price and it definitely was more expensive but I can’t recall how much. I believe CU in the airport can only offer short term plans.
I’ll let you know if I find any other information~
@@MeganOsten I'm travelling today (very unprecedented so nothing could be planned in detail), guess I'll just have to go ahead and gamble on trazy. Hopefully if things go sideways I can get a refund,,,,
Thanks a lot!!!
Ok! Praying things go well! Please keep me posted ❤️
@@MeganOsten so um as expected I wasn't able to collect it at the airport but Trazy email support was very prompt and they mailed a SIM to my residence after quarantine!
our phones have sim cards, what is the process for those phones?
My husband and I are traveling to Korea next year for 3 months (as tourists). We use Google Fi in the US and we should have service and data in Korea with it just fine. However! Would you say having a Korean phone number is necessary? I believe, even though we're able to use our phones in Korea, our US phone numbers stay the same.
As long as you’re able to make phone calls and receive calls from Korean phone numbers - you should be fine with your foreign number ☺️
Thank you very much for this helpful video!
Regarding covid, if a tourist tests positive , will they have to find an accomodation for the quarantine by themselves or is the government that tells you where you have to move to do the quarantine?
nowadays you don't need buy sim card u can use E sim Tplus work E sim. but Strange in Korea need phone number to sim card to notice bank bc before not set do that China so many do trolling that happen Iphone not support dual to bank if Android support E sim u can use e sim to bank (idk I heard like that) in Tplus said not have option on call option on English ver site but Korea ver site to have it not support volte but 3g to Kakao voice work and price is really low most expensive one is only 3,3000won (in Korea only Iphone support Esim but global version samsung phone also support ESIM)
I bought my phone on Apple so it should be unlocked... right ?
We’re going to Seoul for just a week in May. Is a SIM card necessary for simple texts, emails, directions, etc? BTW - we have Verizon. Thanks.
I definitely DEFINITELY would have some form of way to have your phone connected to the internet ☺️ SIM cards are very convenient if they’re compatible with your phone.
The cheapest, alternative option I know of would be to have a wifi egg/portable wifi device - but you would only be able to use your phone with massaging apps like iMessage for iPhones or WhatsApp PLUS all apps you use on your phone (i.e. map apps, email, etc). You’ll need to connect your phone to this portable wifi device every time you want to use data but it’s a cheap and convenient option if you don’t want to purchase a SIM Card. Here’s more information on the wifi egg: www.trazy.com/experience/detail/portable-wifi-rental-korea?ref=MO1226&label=Wi-Fi Egg&ad_id=5740
Megan, do you plan on getting a teaching job? How can you apply for an ARC?
I have been told by some people that if I teach I technically cannot do CZcams because it is another job… I am trying to find a visa that allows me to stay in Korea and keep making videos but it has been challenging…
@@MeganOsten you can do youtube on CZcams just without get money on English teacher but if you work on Hangwon you can use get money from youtube just here School like without Hagwon like the elementary school or kindergarten or middle or high school teacher can't do it and school teacher also do paper to say school said do youtube get money ok you can do
So I need to be able to access USA based apps to do both personal and business transactions while in S Korea. If I change my SIM card, will I be able to utilize a VPN to switch back and forth to access those apps and make transactions both for US & S Korea? For example, I need to be able to order food & medical delivery service for family members back in US on a regular basis. My visa type is undecided at this time. I *may* be student but if not DEF utilizing the 90 day tourist visa in the Spring.
It may be easier to just buy an unlocked phone. Your thoughts??
Sounds like you need a VPN! I would recommend my video about “packing” your phone with apps I’ve recommended you download for your trip.
@@MeganOsten I'm watching that video next!! Thank you!
Some phone carriers will do a soft unlock. Meaning they will slow a foreign SIM in but not another local carrier.
Oh! Good to know!!
@@MeganOsten I think it depends on the carrier since most have roaming plans
Hi I had a question about the sim card in hongdae. The 10k ₩ fee is a supplement to the price we pay for the unlimited data or the whole thing costs 10k ₩ per month ?
There’s a 10k charge for _buying_ the actual SIM card, 10k per month once you become a regular customer ☺️ (so the first month would be a little more so you can buy the actual card)
Hi!! Sorry one more question 😅 I plan on having my regular phone and then my "korea" phone like your friend you mentioned, but my Korea phone is a really shitty old phone that can only call and text. Do you think that is enough or will I actually have to use it for apps? In my mind, I think it might be possible to use the apps on my regular phone, but use my Korea phone to verify those apps, etc, but I am not sure! Would love to get your opinion and if my question doesn't make sense, I apologize haha
You’re okay! Your question makes sense ☺️
As long as the “Korea” phone can make calls, and your other phone has a capability to download and use apps, you should be fine! But you’ll definitely need to be able to use apps on the go for maps and using KakaoTalk to communicate with people (but those would work on your regular as long as you have service or Wifi!
Hope that helps 😄
@@MeganOsten thank you SO much!!! So helpful!
Happy to help ❤️
There is a massive wholesale electronics market in Seoul that also sells used Korean phones just in case.
So I actually already bought a Trazy SIM card before I watched your video. You said that the two cheaper plans don’t work to make calls or texting… I only got this SIM card to use it while I quarantine so that I could receive government calls, therefore I got the cheapest plan. Do you think I can at least receive calls from the government?
Which visa are you coming on? Tourist or long term?
okay, so Trazy is good for tourist? unless you are an ARC holder, u can use the cheap version one. right? im so confused if i can use Trazy or not as a tourist.
Everyone can use Trazy!
@@MeganOsten noted! 💗
You're telling us to go to Myeongdong for the sim card but you're not giving any adress ? or name of the shop ???
The reason I said this is because there’s a specific map I need to send/email because the address is complicated (and not exactly on a map)~
I'll be in Korea for 7 weeks starting August 31st. I noticed a lot of the sim cards say "30 days"? So it will only be active for 30 days? I've never traveled abroad before and for this length of time. I'm excited but nervous.
