    Actually, the CRs have AC and radio, but it could be purchased without those options as a "delete." I have owned 3 S2000s in the last 15 years, an early ap1, 05, and currently a DBW 06 AP2. One of the best Japanese car I have ever own, you can't go wrong with one before they get out of reach for the normal person.

      @urmilpatel1721 Před 9 měsíci +2

      Other way around.....all CRs were 'delete', they could be optioned with AC/Radio. Majority were optioned that way (on build order, not customer order....in NA, customers didn't order color combos....they took what was available). If you went into a dealership that didn't have the color you wanted, you either found it at another dealership or the dealer horse traded with another dealer that had it.

    buyers guide:
    Step 1: Buy one, do whatever it takes
    Step 2: See above
    -Owner of a black 05 ap2. Based on slight differences and/or refinements I'd say I like the ap2s exterior styling over the ap1. I haven't driven a newer model with drive by wire so I can't compare the 06+.
    -If you own a garage your top will last (138,000 current miles, original top, 2nd owner).
    -Aftermarket street clutches might give you "clutch buzz" in reverse or while decelerating like mine did. An ACT flywheel, pressure plate, and oem clutch disk work and sound smooth, no buzzing or rattle. I had a competition clutch street setup (sprung disk) and I had to remove it as I couldn't stand the extra noises
    -Check the screws on each soft top latch to ensure they're not loosening up. Mine were very loose when I checked them around 100,000 miles. I did drop the top a lot up until this point so maybe that contributed
    -My headlights still work perfectly (knock on wood). These factory HIDs are definitely more reliable than any halogen or led setup.
    I will say to anyone with an s2000, go get yourself a spoiler, like the factory trunk spoiler that gives it an aggressive, but subtle look. And if you don't know, there's recesses on the bottom side of the trunk lid indicating where you would drill a hole for this spoiler so you're not going in guessing. Take your time though making the holes (start small, then work up to whatever size you need), making sure not to make them too large or not drilling a perfect circle.

    Nice video!! Solid for those begining their hunt for an S2k. It's definitely appreciated and as someone that went through the hunt before, it's accurate!
    My 2 cents that I can add to your awesome video:
    The convertible cover is actually to protect the soft top, like during the week while it's parked if it's your weekend warrior.
    You actually had one of the most desired color combinations on screen and didn't mention it! Lol the White with Tan interior. Most GP White S2K came with a Black interior followed by the Red interior, the rarest was the one with the Tan interior. I could be remembering wrong (my s2k hunt was about 10 years ago lol) but I think the GP White S2k with Tan interior was the only color with Tan interior. **JUST checked, 2 things: GP White with Red is rarest (you got that right!) BUT red was offered with other exterior colors Black and Silver so it would be easier to do an interior swap for those colors. So imo White+Tan remaind king, specially 2003 to get the best AP1 ;)
    Now about Suzuka Blue... We are going to have to beef over that one lmao. I believe that at the end of the day(30 years from now) the Suzuka Blue with Smurf interior will be one of the most valuable S2000s in auctions (outside of CR and S2k w/ rare parts) there is NO car unless you jump into the custom supercar range, with an all blue interior. That will be so iconic and unique that it will skyrocket it's price....Now about that beef, come on man, don't say my MRS color is feminine, I'm already driving a hair dressers car ;( lol

    • @hakosan86
      @hakosan86  Před rokem

      Yeah I thought that’s what it was for but I still think it’s kinda useless when you can get a full car cover to protect the whole car. I think the tan interior is cool too but nothing beats red on a sports car! Hey man at least you don’t have yellow😂. I think with some mods the mrs can look really good in blue but when it’s stock without the TRD kit it’s just to bubbly for the color. I would love that color on a old Nova though! I just think the car needs to be boxy and bigger to make up for the femininity in the color

    • @hakosan86
      @hakosan86  Před rokem

    With value discrepancies between AP1 and 2 it really just comes down to which one has lower mileage. Even though these cars are practically mileage exempt since they're so special and rare, mileage still influences purchase prices (same is true for any used car). In that case since AP2's are several years younger than the originals their mileage is almost always lower. Otherwise, both AP1 and 2 fetch top dollar. And yeah, GPW with red interior is epic, ask me how I know ;)

    I've driven 10 or more S2000s over the years. Thought I would buy one but never did. One thing kept me from pulling the trigger... zero torque. You have to drive these things like you stole them. They don't come alive till 6,000 rpm. Way too buzzy for me. For the same money I purchased a C6 Corvette. Torque on demand, a true driver's car. Have a C7 currently. If you like sports cars, there's NO substitute. There's a big difference between buzzy cars and ballsy cars.

      S2K is definitely not the car for you. You want American grunt. OG owners loved the British roadster feel from a Japanese manufacturer.....much like the OG owners of NSXs loved the supercar feel from Japanese engineering and reliability. 23+ years of ownership, only time I've driven any of my S2Ks like "I stole" it was on the track or for spirited driving (like on the Dragon).
      Also, if you want torque, get yourself an EV. Nothing daily drivable like launching an RS etron GT, Taycan, or Model S P100D from a dig....you'd have to build out a street rod to get close.

      Yup, they have no torque, and you have to drive it like you stole it to get it to perform. I personally like that, enough to make me prefer it to my old Porsche and Focus st. I have been considering a c6 z06 as a second sports car though. I'll never get rid of the s2k

      People who say “ low torque “ do not know how to get the power from the engine.
      A bicycle can beat a S2000 if you don’t know how to drive.
      Ap1 is rude and crude.
      Ap2 is a detuned S2000.
      9,000 rpm……nothing can beat that.

    Had an ap1 and a ap2. Still have my ap2. People are foolish and think the Ap1's extra 600 rpm make a diff. The ap1 stops making power before it hits its redline. The ap1 has a miserable torque curve and weak retainers that can crack and also cause valve float. My ap2 has a much better and useable torque curve. It has a built head so I can rev to 12k rpm so who gives sh*t about an 8800 rpm. My ap2 retainers won't crack, I have no valve float, I have more torque, more modern looking headlights/front bumper. I have traction control for when I want it (rainy days), I have lower miles, and the ap2 is more refined than the ap1.

      I highly doubt your ap2 can rev to 12k. You'd need way more than a built head to do that.

      The retainers were worse. But they only crack from over revs that occur from shifting improperly. I've inspected mine and they are fine. I'll replace them IF I over rev it. Otherwise I'll be fine forever. It's not a big deal

      @@Wallstreetavarice I was an engine builder and a master ASE auto tech/machinist for a decade and I personally built/machined my whole motor; bottom end and top end. Yes that's correct, if you want to rev your s2k to 12k repeatedly you need to also build the bottom end; namely the rods, bearings, and oil supply to account for the needed rod ratio/stress/ and heat at the higher end of the rpms. However, with just a built head you can rev the S2K up to ~10.5-11k rpm as long as you have enough oil delivery and I did so before I built my bottom end. Several S2k's out there have been doing it for years, namely the S2k's that Real Street Performance has built; check out their cars on their website or contact their shop and ask them about it.
