Here is a quick video showing the torque converter setup install. You can find these TAV torque converters all over the internet. They are cheap and easy to install. If you are going to be using your mini bike or go kart a lot or you don't want to take it apart very often then I would suggest getting a Comet brand torque converter. Yest they are more expensive but worth it in the long run. Do you want a Harbor Freight tool or Milwaukee! If you look carefully you'll get a sneak preview of another yerf dog go kart i'm restoring and rebuilding.

I'm just an old mechanic wishing I was still working and having fun like you guys.
One thing I noticed is that you all are calling this a Torque Converter.
I may be out of date but a torque converter is more like a fluid coupling.
This is more like THE CONSTANTLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT), it changes it's shape to achieve different speeds.
This transmission is used in some Mazda vehicles, I just don't understand how the term Torque Converter was applied to this.
Little things that get me lol. Next thing you know they'll be calling it Pound Feet instead of Foot pounds

@@-DIYPRO- yes its on the go kart.. is there something that let's the clutch free spin? Or does the belt slip over the pulleys at idle? I'm guessing the pulley on the engine has to turn when the engine turns.. just confused on how the belt doesn't try to spin all the time making the cart move if the belt is spinning

    • @-DIYPRO-
      @-DIYPRO-  Před 2 lety

Sometimes if there is no load on the engine (like the wheels are up off the ground then it can do exactly what is shown in the videos but as soon as you put it on the ground then yes the pull will free spin until the rpms get higher. Yes sometimes the belt will spin as well but it will not have the force to engage the driven pulley. You can test it out by rolling the kart over to tree or something stationary. Try starting there, that will stop it from taking off in the event of it engaging while just at idle.

Mech Master Correct, strangest thing. I saw you have a 669 belt, and I stated incorrectly as I checked and I as well have the 669 belt you have. I see in footage that the front dealy is supposed to expand and push inward, raising tention and the belt. However I am getting just the belt sitting there and I'm wondering if for some reason maybe there's a slight gap that is not permitting the belt to get squeezed, which could be why it's not spinning.

There are a lot of factors that go into that question. You'll see these torque converters on the bigger go karts that are heavier and need the low-end torque to get it going. Have you just have a little kid Kart then your typical centrifugal clutch will do just fine.

My chain rubs the pulley, or whatever you want to call it, so, instead of placing the key washer between the plate and sprocket, I have placed two washers on the left side of the sprocket and the pulley, moving the sprocket and chain to the right just enough to clear the pulley, but someone told me if I don’t use the key washer on the right. It’ll destroy the bearing.
