    dang I didn't know Drew basically helped construct "Scream" into what it turned out to be, and to do that at 20 years old is pretty impressive

      I know right?! But I don´t quite fully understand, did she direct Scream?

    • @bernardwylie9760
      @bernardwylie9760 Před 15 dny +13

      @@Deisi666no, but she did play a hand in getting legendary horror genre director Wes Craven to sign on to direct what became one of the genre’s signature film franchises. She also gave up the lead role of Sydney, which went to Neve Campbell instead. What she got was one of the iconic opening scenes in 1990s film, and the audience was shocked seeing a star of Drew’s caliber being killed off in the first scene. As Drew and Christine Taylor explain here though, it was all really a jump off point for Drew’s production company to get started, and it supported many of her projects that came later like Never Been Kissed and Charlie’s Angels.

      @bernardwylie9760 Yes I got all of that but thank you for your thorough explanation 😊
      I just thought I heard her say that she had a part in directing Scream, but i guess i misunderstood 😆
      I first saw Scream at like 10 years old and I'm now a full grown adult -which by the way ew! 😆 - and I've seen all the Scream movies and can't wait for the next one.

      Also means she had to deal with Harvey Weinstein. Scream could have been a better experience if he didn’t purchase the script

    • @markdaly1648
      @markdaly1648 Před 13 dny +2

      It wouldn't have made 100 million dollars at the box office and nobody else would have distributed the movie. The scream franchise was enormous for dimension films. 300 million. That was what the female producer of scream said. Harvey weinstein was the only game in town when it came to making independent films in the 1990s

      Imagine if drew was the main character instead of being killed off in the opening scene. Drew made a smart choice. I don’t think the film would have been successful if drew was the main character

    • @johnsmi213
      @johnsmi213 Před 4 dny +1

      At the time, she actually admitted she was just worried the film would flop (since horror was dead at that point) and it'd ruin her career so she suggested playing that role to play it safe. And Wes was depressed that they lost their star so she promised she'd promote it the same way she would if she was the lead... and then Wes realized it would make the audience not know what to expect if they killed off the projected star attachment... so it wasn't her genuine foresight that made her change roles. She just sells it like that today, out of respect for the film.

    "It's Drew Barrymore. There's no way she's gonna get killed." 100% my mindset watching that movie back then. She was on all the posters, almost front and center and at the time, was the biggest name in the cast. What a shocking, amazing opening for the entire franchise.

    Funny she wound back to Charlie's Angels. When she was telling her cast switch idea for Scream, it reminded me how Kate Jackson, who helped with CA's setup, was supposed to be Kelly , but she thought it more interesting to have the most sophisticated one (Smith) play the scrappy streetwise orphan. Both ladies were very right.

  • @awesomejumpropevideos

    Picture this... Scream 7 starts with Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore) walking out of Woodsboro High School, Sidney walks by with Tatum you overhear her talking about Billy. She's crossing the road and a car almost hits her, behind the wheel of the car we see a hand with a diamond ring. The car swerves around and beeps as Sidney notices and rolls her eyes, "what's wrong with people?"
    Flash forward to today, Sidney moves back to Woodsboro and is dropping off her daughter at Woodsboro High School, a car is following Sidney home and tries to run her off the road. Behind the wheel is the same Diamond ring. She gets home and finds her house is ransacked and a mask of ghost face sits on her counter top with the note... "watch your back..Sidney."

    She really was not a B movie actress though. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in Gun Crazy in 1993. She had a funny cameo appearance in Wayne’s World 2 in 1994. She had a starring role in the movie Bad Girls in 1994, which was, despite bad reviews, a big production that had a large movie release. Boys On The Side and Mad Love both were big productions backed by major studio’s that turned a profit as well. Batman Forever, despite her small role, was very successful as well! She was definitely not a b movie actress during the the Summer of 1996 when Scream was filmed! I appreciate her modesty though!
