    started with this a few weeks ago as well. being a tech guy, i can tell this is very addictive and expensive :-) in terms of saving energy, there is statistics saying led lights can only have an impact of 8% of your total energy consumption. well, that is still 8% i guess.

    • @Tomassively
      @Tomassively  Před 7 lety +2

      Hope it's coming together nicely altma!
      Well, 8% isn't a lot, but hey, it's still something. And then there's all the time you forget to turn off lights, and now with Hue, you wont. That's probably the big saver.
      + lifetime of course. Price of 1 hue vs. X amount of regular bulbs.

    I did the same thing in my house and it wound up costing me around $1100.00 USD. BUT I entertain guests frequently at my place and the Hue system I installed WOWS my guests when I show it off. I have plans to extend my system to some of the outdoor lighting that is available from Phillips. Nice job on your setup in your place. :)

    I just installed my first setup also. So far only living room and kitchen but surely very addictive. I have also added Siri shortcuts for preset scenes so when I want to watch TV I only have to say "Set TV" and all the lights dim and color for pleasant TV lights. Also similar for Reading, Chilling and Nighttime.
    Particularly enjoyed your phone-on-the-wall solution. I will definitely use my old iPad for that.
    Enjoy and thanks again from a fellow scandi also living in Spain. Saludos !
    PS: I live on the Canary Islands so I buy all my stuff taxfree at the airport in Oslo. Starter packet with bulbs worked out as euro 145 after I got rid of the tax. I usually do the same thing at Kastrup but haven't bought any Hue stuff there yet.

    Man, fantastic vid series. Definitely interested in whether you tried to hook it up to your alarm system (wake up with your lights dimming up) or setting up a GPS feature where you show up home or leave your home and they switch on and off and how you found those features.
    You could do a compare on 2 months from before your Hue switch, to 2 months afterwards but it might make a difference with the seasons you experience in Spain.
    Do you think you'll remove your little Android setup now that you can control it with your iPhone?

    • @Tomassively
      @Tomassively  Před 7 lety

      +LordUsagi hi there! Thank you, appreciated! I have the system setup so it'll turn on lights when I come home if it's after sunset. And turn off whenever I leave. But I have not tried with the alarm! Must try that! :o
      I'll see if I can do a comparison sooner.
      The android phone is still there. It's just working as a central control. For whenever my phone is in a different room, or when I have guests. Instead on having to turn on lights for them, they can do it them selfs on the android phone. :)

    Hey! Really love them :)
    I want to get into philips hue myself, but the color ones are really expensive. How often do you use the colors, and do you think it's 100% worth it? I'm thinking myself that colors will be cool for a week, but after that you'll want normal light. I was looking at the Philips Hue White Ambiance set. Do you think that's also good?

    • @Tomassively
      @Tomassively  Před 7 lety +1

      +RimboMusic hi there Rimbo! Well, I'd say it's a little early for me to call it yet. Only been living with these for a few days now. I think you might be right about the colors. It's very very cool, but if I'll use it, time will tell. So far, not so much. Maybe what you wanna do is only use color bulbs in a few places. Living room maybe. White bulbs will do the job I think. :)
      I hope that helped a little. Anything else, please let me know.
      Have a great evening.

      Hi Rimbo! :)
      Well, I can't give you a definite answer there. I do not own the white bulbs. But, honestly, I don't think colors are all that important. Maybe just use colors in a few places where you'd like some disco. :)

    Actually the Bolds are cheeper on Apple, belive it or not, 49 euros. The strips the same price, Only the starter Kit is a little cheeper. Nice setup, and you will save money on electricity for sure, specially since the prices are righter high here in Spain. But if you use all the lights every night it will be around the same as before. (Mine save around 70% when used only in rooms Im in).

    It takes £30.00 of hardware and £2.50 plugs in it fixes the problem. You have a voice controlled lighting system as well the smart tab or phone. KJB

      Could be an idea but not sure it they'd chuck out enough light though? I might just be patient and see what the Philips techies come up with, they must have a bathroom light in the works somewhere surely.

      In my experience, the lightstrips are super bright. So if you can find some clever places to fit them, I think they'd be great.
      Otherwise, you can buy lamps that are waterproof. Try look in the "outdoor light" section at your local hardware store etc. Maybe that's the way. :)

    is it possible to control the lights (on/off) from the house's switches?

    • @Tomassively
      @Tomassively  Před 6 měsíci

      It is, but if they're off with the light switches, the hue control system cannot override that. If that makes sense. :)

    hi mate do the light switches need to stay on to work
    if someone turns switch off do i need to turn back on for voice activation and app to work

    • @Axys_0_Rex
      @Axys_0_Rex Před 7 lety

      The switch on the wall needs to stay on. The Hue Bridge (little wifi box thing) doesn't require the light switches to be on, though, so all apps and functions will still work if one light is switched off at the wall. They just won't work on that particular light, because it's unpowered.
      Basically, if someone switches off my hallway bulb, I cannot use my hallway bulb until it is switched on again, but my other rooms' bulbs will be completely unaffected.

      Yep! That's correct Karine! :) You can add up to 50 lights to 1 Bridge I believe.

    Very Cool. Now get an Amazon Echo / Google Home to control it all via voice. And a Logitech Harmony Elite to control lights and media in one.

      Very cool indeed. They don´t sell Echo in my coutry too, and I am not sure if it would work properly if I buy it in US and install here, in Brazil. Are you thinking in buy it somewhere else, Tomassively, or are you going to wait till they sell Echo in Spain?

    • @Tomassively
      @Tomassively  Před 7 lety

      I was thinking about ordering it from the UK, but I haven't done any research if it would work. I don't see why it shouldn't, but I cannot promise anything of course. I will probably just wait. :)

    You will probably never recoup the cost of those bulbs through energy consumption. Also, there is no reason for colored bulbs everywhere and could have paid half for the white bulbs.

    You could have saved a lot of money by using signature whites or even the old white bulbs in places where you don't need color, like the toilet.
