- How to Weld Aluminum Pipe. How I like to weld 6061 Aluminum Pipe, I used 5356 Filler metal.
this is a video I made on how I like to weld aluminum pipe. I simplify the process for anyone wanting to learn.
Hopefully this video will shed some light on how to get proper penetration on aluminum.
for this video I set my TIG up old school. I was running 60 htz for the frequency and 45% dcep cleaning.
I was running my Alphatig Ahp200x for all the welding. Its a good machine for home use.

txsviking thanks bud!
Yeah patience is the key
I've been welding anodized aluminum pipe fuel tanks everything over 40 years and I've been watching videos on your youtube and you were the first one that actually knows how to weld aluminum
I really liked that you showed the inside view and the penetration of the weld! Awesome job!!
Thanks dude I appreciate it
I came across your video and had to comment. I have been welding for over 50 yrs, and still love it. You love your work, that's why you are really good at it. Keep on truckin ! !
Been welding for years, but there are always points to pickup from other people, good video!
ohh man that could be an educational video to play in a welding school ! nice work this video of yours is very qualified
joarmape thank you I really appreciate that!
Very nice work; your narration is descriptive and to the point, no guessing required. Seeing it happen as you weld is excellent, it helps make your point about the waiting and the add filler. Thank you for your skilled demonstration.
The best film work on a welding vid I have ever seen ... Great work! Many thanks
By far the most descriptive and fun-to-follow tutorial I’ve seen. Thank you for helping us learn this craft!
Honestly, I almost skipped the video since the start it wasn't filtering out the light but something told me to stick around. I am glad that I did. I have had trouble tig welding aluminum since it doesn't really pool the same way as steel (at least that is the way I feel) and your narration along with seeing it happen in real time helped for sure. I might hop back on the welder soon now!
Beautiful job. Good pen. Better than most stuff I've seen on job sites or CZcams.
The real thing that makes you so talented is that you use the low budget machines to make professional results, ie.. harbor freight belt sander, ahp tig etc... great job my friend!
thanks bud! Nice tools definitely help, but they're not always necessary.
Nice demo, really appreciate the inside shot and all your tips. Thanks for taking the time.
+YourOldDog thank you and no problem I'm just glad it helps people
Very nice job man. Never knew exactly how tig worked and after watching this I know now. I've always been a mig guy but this makes me wanna try it out!
Good job setting up the arc shots. It's clear how much thought and time you put into this!! Thank you.
Thank you!
you have a good way of showing good job
darryl williams thank you
nice very nice i learned somthing thanks for the great video keep them comming. great arc shots. thanks for your input ive been welding for 35 years and i learned somthing about alluninum.
Jamie Buckley thanks. Will do!
What a professional job you have done. Cam shooting is perfect and educate well. you took your time , good luck.
Great shot of the inside of the pipe while welding. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work. 👍👍
this young dude is not a welder, he's a welding artist.
Good i still do trainning aluminium pipe tig welding,, still learning,,bali,, indonesia
Thank you!
Subscribed :-)
Brilliant arc shots and simple clear instructions that help a beginner like me 👌
Fantastic! That "inside view" was life changing :O) Thank you for the video.
Nice explanation on when to add filler metal and I could see the puddle sink in...
I want to learn this skill to make stage truss, for my own music business, great job, thanks for sharing your wisdom and knowledge
+Peace Lover no problem thank you for watching! Have a good one
Very good video, I particularly like the approach view of the weld so you could see the area sink before you added rod, and how much filler you added each time.
Thanks glad you liked it
37 1/2 degree is the proper bevel for pipe heavy wall pipe such as main steam may have a 37/10 bevel on it and I’ve ran the gold track with 5 degree bevel but a 45 degree angle is way to much for a multitude of reasons this is just fyi! Your doing great job
Someone with an iPad upside down gave you a thumbs up too !!! :-)
Best educational welding video I've seen on CZcams great job
Thanks bud I really appreciate it!
Thank You for that!
So nice to see such a close up video footage
Dude! Excellent tutorial! Really nice job explaining the process, especiallly the build up and soak in. Thanks.
Doug Bug no problem bud!
You are a wizard Hairy 😍
Great video man! Learning how to weld and I find myself struggling with piping mostly (working on building a hot side and cold side for my ls build). The inside and different angles really helped me visualize what to look for and understand that it requires good timing. I find as a new welder and being self taught, I’m always worried about burning through my material so sometimes (at least of SS) my welds look cold
That's awesome! Thank you. I've been wanting to do some stainless videos I might have too.
I'm just some guy that doesn't do anything like this, but I have ideas and think aluminum would be good to build the stuff I'm thinking about. But everywhere I look, people say "it's really hard to weld aluminum" like it's damn near impossible. Thanks to your video, I now think it's accessible with some good practice. Maybe in a few years my ideas will become real.
Ya i like starting people on aluminum because its easier to see. You have a much bigger weld to work with. Its not any harder it's just different.
Could almost smell the hot aluminum, good work!
Excellent Videos, your videos are very easy to watch and informative..
Very nice welds, informative video. Cool arc shots also.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
awesome don't see a lot of aluminum pipe welding on youtube
Ya I thought the same thing and I get asked a lot about how I weld pipe on Instagram
Excellent video, shots inside the pipe showing the weld pen were a brilliant idea-and the well set up arc shots were also very instructive.
Happy n healthy 2018 to y'all.
Jaques Daniels you too bud and thanks for watching I appreciate it!
Great welds and good tips, I'm doing a lot of 3 inch aluminum pipe right now and it's pretty tricky, heat builds up quick, cheers.
Danthefordfixer it sure can! I like to let it cool after a quarter or half pass.
Thanks for the details, like waiting at the start and how you control the current based on the look, great video!
Thanks for this excellent clip and brilliant explanation . Looking forward to see more of your videos in 2018. Happy new year
einargreensky thank you and happy new year to you too!
Excellent job. You are a professional
Very interesting the burs on inside contain oxides that will surface on you weld pool. Thank you. Mike
I did, thanks, I think I'm going to learn welding
I see there are 80 disliked thumbs down.

Nice technique,
One video in 6g position, with same material.
Some Nice shots! Thanks for taking the time to share and looking forward to more.
Finn Fabrication no problem thanks for watching!
welder of the good ones.wooow.
Muy buena soldadura amigo, gracias por compartir tus conocimientos, saludos desde paraguay....!!!
Great use of your camera ,catching the puddle and melt .
An excellent video. Keep up the good work!
GREAT stuff...thank you.
Nice job and thank you for your videos.
Excellent video and content. Thank you!
Very nice !!! I am going crazy watching you weld. I need to find scrap aluminum to to practice its so expensive.
Shaq Deisel It is expensive I'm lucky my work usually gives me small chunks like these.
what an incredible job! you are very good.
There seems to be a lot of people in welding aluminum. If my memory serves me right, from when I worked in a ship yard, aluminum will shrink when welded. If you measured a pipe length, by the it was welded it could wind up shorter than you wanted. Especially if there were multiple welds.
Great tip. I'll try it this weekend.
Thanks I'm glad it helped!
Was that 2 passes?
Very nice, good clear easy to understand, thank you
Thanks I appreciate it!
Good job my friend ! I like weld aluminium, it's nice work !
Great video!
Can you do a tutorial on a very thin walled aluminum? especially pertaining to heat control, not blowing through, the settings for heating while cold and after its warmed up for me seems to be quite a curve. Thanks!
Beautiful. Just damn beautiful. Thanks for the video bud was great!
Love the video. I’m new to welding & want to make my intercooler piping. I was wondering if back purging is necessary with aluminum, seeing the penetration in your welds tells me it’s not needed. Thank you for this. 👍🏽💪🏽
Nope no purge needed!👊
nice work and clear instruction
Slick root. Aluminum is one material I’ve never had to do an open root on.
Very good man! Congratulations.
Very nice work indeed, the only thing missing from practise I suppose is the back purge.
very rarely do you back purge aluminum. It would have to be something special requested.
Are you using a chill plate or just the v blocks ? Nice job by the way.
I'm on day 9 with my tig, never tried it before I bought my machine
Well done video! I'am a new subscriber for sure.
2759591 thank you! I appreciate it
don't forget the craters, nice welding
Great video and information! Thank You
Jeremy thanks you for watching
Great explanations. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge,,,,
No problem I hope my videos helped!
That's really nice.
That's a good tip
stunning tutorial thank you.
Thanks for watching bud
Nice aluminum welding. Has anyone tried an Esab186 tig welder? Looks like you are happy with the machine you have. Good job on the arc shots.
Bombardier64 thank you I haven't personally used one so I can't say maybe someone else has and ya mines worked pretty good for me
Man it looks so easy when you do it. Mine blows through the joint between the pipes. They don't stick together
Where are you at, I own a trike and I was hit by a car, and the trike cracked and broke apart, I’ve tried to get it welded, yet nobody knows how to do it, so if you are not to far and willing to work on it I could sent it to you, I think that the kind of work just did will be perfect for it
I thank you before hand and hope to hear from you
Carlos
Thanks I'll give that a try
Superb skill you have👌👌👌
Great job.. Excellent video 👍💪💪
Nice job
Perfect bead inside.
I think if the pipe is welded in position the story changes a bit.
The sink in becomes a suck back and is a repair on x ray.
Thanks bud! With aluminum its pretty hard to get suck back unless its a fillet weld. I have a video of the same technique in 6g somewhere on here.
Hope you make video for welding adjustment before start welding thank u
great video thanks
Thanks for the video but i wanna see a position weld/fit up like laying on the floor
Good video and audio!!!
flamewargod thanks bud
Nice welding tips dir
