Here's how to use saddle soap to clean your leather boots.
To clean your boots with saddle soap, you'll need a few items:
You'll need saddle soap. In this video I'm using Kiwi, but my top pick for best saddle soap is Fiebings.
Get Kiwi Saddle Soap on Amazon → amzn.to/3gWUSLd
Get Fiebings Saddle Soap on Amazon → amzn.to/3DUWrDF
Get a dauber brush on Amazon → amzn.to/3jIjZ6A
Get Microfiber towels on Amazon → amzn.to/3kTHV6k
And a leather conditioner for when you're done. Here are two of my favorite inexpensive leather conditioners.
Get Bick 4 on Amazon → amzn.to/3DDDIMu
Get Venetian Shoe Cream on Amazon → amzn.to/3B4Fc3i
Brush off all dust and dirt from your boots with a rag. Fill the top of your saddle soap tin with warm water. Wet a dauber brush with the water and create suds in the saddle soap by working the dauber in a circular motion.
Brush your entire boot in a circular motion until the upper is entirely covered in suds. Wipe off excess soap with a microfiber towel. Let your boots dry and condition.

I’m glad you told me to take the lid off, once I did that, it was all downhill.
I like your down-to-earth, no frills sensible and useful advice. And *thank you* for not incorporating useless and annoying background music. You will go from strength to strength.
^ what he said, thanks.
Good tutorial, the only bit of information I’d add is that you may need (and it’s okay to use) a brush to kick excessive dirt before you clean and condition your boots. I’m a commercial electrician in a very dirt happy area of the country, I have to use a fairly stiff brush to knock off the heavy dirt off my Red Wing Roughnecks
So glad this was the top result! Great and straight to the point. Im justnow cleaning my boots after... 3 or 4 years lol. Crazy to see all the grime rubbed off
Best presentation! Best advice, complete, and succinct and no nonsense with nonsense graphics and no irritating music.
Perfect! 😎
Appreciate it! Thank you for watching!
I love how you just get into it without giving us a five hundred word essay on leather care.
Thank you so much.
Thank you. Clean my boots a lot but you gave me some really good pointers in a simple way and you weren't annoying about it. Thank you for not adding stupid ass music or anything like that to your video. Truly appreciated!
Thank you! I look up " how to use saddle soap" and your video popped up. The first thing I see, you have the same boots I do 🫡 perfect
Straightforward tutorial! Well done!
Thank you so much for watching!
Good stuff! So helpful.
I have leather shoes. But I can't handle its dirt issues and proper cleaniness. Now your this vedio provides me a right direction to handle these issues.
Thank you a lot.

Straight to it.Thank you
glad I could help, thank you for watching and commenting-- I really appreciate it!
quick and no bs. worked great too. thanks
Thanks. That was helpful
Thanks to you I have a lovely pair of classy looking boots.
So glad to hear it!
I live in west Texas, I leave my boots in the sun for 40 minutes- 1 Hour the longest. In the winter well ya over night inside. Also I use a soft toothbrush to get in those deep spots like the welts and the guest. Also I use a sponge the apply and conditioner as it spreads it nicely and it allows me once again to get in those tight spaces. Another thing I do is put a light coat of the conditioner on the inside and if the soul is a veg tan I apply there as well. Breaks in the boot nicely and keeps the inside from falling apart. Had a pair of RedWings Iron rangers since I was 18 now 44 and only had 3 re-soul. My Nicks since I was 20 and only 2 re-soul. Every time I get a complement on how the soul and inside has kept up. Just saying the inside needs love too just not as much. I do the inside about 3 times a year.
Great tutorial
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for watching!
Those are some really nice boots!
Any special recommendation or tips for the while sole on the moc toes? The same saddle soap is enough?
So what should. I use to clean the boots before I put mink oil on?
Can you do this with faux leather or a light colored leather?
Very good video!
Thank you!
That shirt is 🔥
Very nice ✨😍
Kiwi saddle soap moisturizes also no need to condition with kiwi soap. Just like moisturizing body wash no need to lotion up or ull feel greasy not to mention it changes the color
what wrist watch are you wearing?
Excellent 👌
What size are you in those throughgoods sir?
Can you recommended Tarrago?
I have a tin of Dr. Martens wonder balsam. Would that be the same/ similar to leather conditioner?
How often do you recommend cleaning leather shoes/boots that get 1-2 wears a week? My understanding is that maybe 1-2 a year is enough, assuming your are doing regular conditioning. Is that right?
Is it ok if I dubbin wax after using saddle soap?
thank you..
Ahh what if we don't have that circle brush can we use a long brush or a rag
I used Palmolive dish soap . Works just as good . Got the brush at the $ store . Left the boots over night . Re condition them with the less expensive Venetian shoe cream . Perfect.
That can be fine short term but that will, over time, strip way too much moisture from the boots. But it’s good that you used Venetian as that has magical restorative properties making the soap of choice not a big problem. I’d recommend designated saddle soap in the future. The cheap kind is fine especially if you’re using Venetian shoe cream.
Thx
I got a question, although saddle soap mostly consists of water , why not using it without soaking the brush, so it gets dry faster?
what's a good price💲for the saddle soap...? i recently got it but paid lot😢
Nice!
Thank you for watching, brother!
ive always just rubbed the saddle soap directly on the leather without water
dry for 8 hours? Ive heard that some folks do it in 2.
Can you polish shoes a day after using leather conditioner? I assume you shouldn’t use conditioner after polishing but I could be wrong
That was exactly my question. Saddle Soap, condition and then polish?
I can’t see any dirt help
Hi. Does saddle soap change the color of your boots? Thank you.
No it doesn't
Can i use leather balm right after cleaning my boots with saddle soap instead of shoe cream?
Not right after. Gotta let them dry completely before putting anything on them
Will this work to remove excessive mink oil buildup?
Could you answer this question please because I have the same question thanks?
Is leather lotion a good alternative if you don't have conditioner?
Yep that will work
Would a tooth brush be a fine alternative to this brush?
That’s what I’m wondering too.
Make sure the conditioner does not have any waxes in it like beeswax it will clog the pores making your boots hot.
Where does Bick4 become inexpensive
Nearly £17!!!!!!!!!!!!!
per bottle in UK
So you use a towel to remove grit that might scratch the leather then you use the grit-laden towel again to re-apply the grit and scratch the leather? Got it.
🤣
Bick 4 €30 in the Netherlands, call that cheap?
Oh snap, that's quite a bit pricier
buy saphir conditioner its cheaper here since its made in france
Interestimg...I usually condition my boots an hour after I use Saddle soap. Maybe that's why they look more red now
Is it okay to add laundry perfume?
That boot is already clean
You DO NOT NEED to wait 8 hours before you condition. 30 minutes is fine.
You don’t need to but I feel like it is at least good practice to give it like 4-8 at least.
it depends on the cleaning. if you submerged the boots or shoes in distilled water, you will have to wait for 1-2 days for them to completely dry again. 30 minutes would never be enough.
@@mardenhill why distilled water?
@@aayotechnology minerals in tap water can bond with the leather’s surface and leave unsightly streaks that dull the leather.
Am I the only one wondering why this guy is cleaning an already clean boot?
I did it for demonstration purposes and made a video about it
Obviously you are Roscoe. Work it out.
Saddle Soap almost ruined a lovely Lucky Brand purse that i have!! Cannot believe a leather CLEANER could put dark spots on a lovely bag. Wish I hadn't followed your advice.
The video is titled "How to Use SADDLE SOAP on Boots | CLEANING Leather Boots" not purses
how about you try reading, watching and understanding first what the video is about?
This shit is a scam or just for hipsters that sit in offices and don't actually get their boots dirty. Dish soap works fine. Put them on your boot dryer overnight then the next day put obenaufs on. There's nothing better if you actually use boots for their intended purpose.
Saddle soap changes the PH of the leather which will lead to cracking eventually
So what do you suggest?
