This was a classic only sad thing is they don’t make interesting movies anymore now you got these corny remixes of b.s some are good but not all but this was the greatest
@Joe-lc3sv true but they appreciated and had more love for the craft. The way movies are filmed now, how quick they make em. I miss then older times
He slapped his son because he was out of order and wasn't listening. His dad knows what Sonny is all about and he could see the influence that he already has on his son due to the fact that he never raised his voice at him until he met Sonny and his crew. It's called respect your parents because if Cee was that brazen, at that age , to disrespect his father then there's no respect for the law, teachers or anyone that's an authority figure. Parents nowadays reward behavior like this with trinkets or with toys then when that child gets older he expects the same treatment from the world when he or she gets out of pocket. Lorenzo was just slapping him back into reality because he knows the world is cold and they will do so much worse than a slap for disrespect.
and tbf to sonny, he wouldnt teach that to cee. the biker scene ended up a fight because they were disrespectful to the authority there.
Thank you for saying this. Sad she didn’t catch on and was defending sonny and praising him throughout the film
@@drew_lg2132 I can tell she doesn't have children because that scene went right over her head looking at it with Millennial or Generation Zombie glasses. I expect to see her on Maury or Dr. Phil crying about her out of control teen.
Ty for this, I thought I was tripping about her praising Sonny
We also have to remember that the person reviewing these films is also a child. Can't put too much stock into comments made by someone who hasn't truly lived life yet.
He wasnt going about it the wrong way honestly that was gentle parenting for that time 😂💯
Her thinking thats "TOO HARD" she will create a new gangster.
I was an extra in this movie. They were in my neighborhood for almost a year filming this. I grew up going to the church you see in the background of this movie and the HS scenes are shot at my HS. Great flick.
Amazing!
That's so cool bro. Great movie to.
Lorenzo was one of the most solid dads in movies. You gotta be hard sometimes with kids because they ain’t mature enough to understand how real the consequences can get
Facts....Lorenzo was a great example as a dad..... You have to teach a kid a lot tougher to keep them out of the streets
Plus, in this situation, there's no easy way to explain to a kid what the mafia is, what they do, how they work, etc.
Even though he was a piece of shit racist but I am sure you don't hold that to him
@@RoadToMedical😂😂😂😂😂😂
Well yea hangin around the Real Italian Mob is very dangerous lol or any Mob or Crime Family for that matter
Old school catholic rule is to bless yourself everytime you pass a church.
Exactly. Like my mum always did
Whenever you passed the altar (in a straight line out to the street).
Im 35 and I still do that, I've also taught my kids. Sign of the cross when you pass the church, hear sirens and pass a cemetery.
This flick is known as an OGs classic. I first saw it when I was 7 years old. Everybody in the hood went crazy especially in the Bronx. I actually grew up not to far from that neighborhood. I knew every where they shot the movie.
He said go back to "Webster Avenue, where you came from"!! Webster Ave is a main steet in the Bronx but it's mostly considered part of the South Bronx!!!! Back then that was the hood/ghetto....
I have a building on Webster
Fun Fact: From my understanding........Chazz was trying to sell the script, but no one would buy it because they didnt want Chazz to play the role of Sonny. Chazz was doing a 1 man Broadway show of the script, where he was playing every single role and one night, Robert De Niro saw the play and went to Chazz green room after the show and they made a deal and Chazz also got to play Sonny.
I like your reaction videos and wanna recommend you check out "Mi Familia/My Family" which is a more family centered version of Blood in Blood Out, but its amazing and has half the cast of Selena and Blood in Blood Out, including, J Lo, who played a role in this movie before she played Selena.
Another slept on classic is "The Warriors" which is about a gang trying to make it back home to Brooklyn, but theyre stuck in the Bronx and every gang is looking for them.
I think she already watched Mi familia/My family
@@carameldiva5131 - Hey, I went through her videos and didn't see it. Maybe you got it mixed up with "American Me"? since those 3 movies came out around the same time, but would be cool to see if she already reacted to Mi Familia😀
The fact that you don't look into any movies before you watch them is a good thing. Most of the times you will be pleasantly surprised.😉
I often watch multiple reactions to the same movie . MJ caught my eye on another movie where she noticed things that flew over the heads of many people older than her .
I totally agree on the don't look anything up before you watch it . 👍
It can set up a direction you expect things to go . Once that happens you might not notice what you would have because the spoilers (which might not even be right) misdirect the ability to think with your own mind ...
@@Freedom_Half_Off 😉
I'm a third generation Sicilian from the Bronx. For years I was a teacher in that same neighborhood, so I know it all pretty well. This film definitely captures the time and place.
Hardly a movie better than this. The main guy,...based on him growing up. He was broke homeless, u name it. DeNiro got wind of the story. He told Chaz, I'll produce it make it act in it, as long as u act and direct in it. And history was made! Sad part is, what happened to C. He had the world in his hands, but threw it all away. He did this, Crimson Tide, a couple other huge movies, could immittate DeNiro perfect! But hung out with the wrong crowd, and went away.
Never knew he went to prison till bout couple months ago and see a show on Tubi about him. Sucks he had it made and did that. The actor Sonny doesn’t even talk to him anymore
Drugs sent him in real life down a dark path he was involved in a cops death which he went to the penitentiary and did hard time he tried acting agin but idk if he still does his name is Lilo Brancato and he was also in the Sopranos
Mj I don’t know if you remember but the black girl in this movie is the same girl from “Belly” Keisha the one that played DMX girlfriend
Rat is only when you snitch on your crew. If you are not part of that crew you owe zero loyalty.
This is based on Chaz life. He did witness this murder when he was a kid. Chaz birth name is Calogero. He was doing a one man play back in the late 80’s early 90’s and DeNiro came and seen it and they made a deal to make the movie. The story of how this movie was made is incredible. I’m not going to go into it because it would take a while but there are plenty of interviews with Chaz and he talks about it. The best interview is the one on PBD’s Valuetanment channel.
Taral Hicks went to middle school & high school with my wife. She always said she was gonna do movies & be famous!!
Dad was solid in this movie. Sonny wasn’t inherently a bad guy, but you don’t allow a child into a bad place where bad things happen, then try to give them “advice” when you could’ve just let them stay out of that scene in the first place. Dad tried to avoid all of it from get go whereas Sonny only started caring after he got what benefited him. At 33 i am fully aware of where dad was coming from and stand by his decisions 100% minus the dating outside of your race thing.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Such a great story, great quotes, life lessons. The soundtrack is 🔥.It's got everything.
So this movie is actuall based on Chazz's real life. He is C, he is just all grwon up now. And yes as much as it upset some people that couldn't accept it, but the bar fight scene is true and really happened as portrayed in the movie. People forget the mobsters from back in the day could throw down and no biker gang was gonna scare them. Oh and Sonny really did stuff all the guys in the bathroom during the dice scene.😂😂
yeah but in this movie old men fighting in suits vs hells angels types is unrealistic edit: also the bikers never even threw a punch
Sonny you like a father on me is wild when you pops is alive and well and trying to be a positive influence
The Bronx had way better food when the Italians were there.
still do...head up to Arthur Ave...
There was an abundance of child molesting when the Italians were in the Bronx too!!
That’s exactly how you teach your son.
Taral hicks that played Jane is in our film Paydert coming out aug 3 in select theaters.. she’s still a doll
Loved her in Belly
She hasn't aged, she's beautiful!
Sleepers. Another period piece. Stellar cast.
a bit dark tough!
I don't know if she is ready for sleepers.
Don't give no more classic recommendations
You sure she's ready for that one. I just watched that movie after so many years and it got to me even worse than the first time I watched it. 🤷🏽♀️
One of the funniest things about this movie is when Robert Deniro character tells his son that they should marry within their own race; especially since he is married to a black woman.
He’s the playing a character in a movie 🙄
“He (De Niro) marries a Black Woman every 15 minutes. Only thing a white woman could do for him is show him where a Black Woman lives.” -Paul Mooney
@@Lon3StarGangsta I think they know that. He was pointing out the irony of the character vs the actor 😐
Sonny’s conversation with C in the car, is exactly what I used with my then girlfriend whose now my wife for 22 years! 🙏🏿
Great classic film indeed!!! Thanks to Mr De Niro for making it and to Mr Palminteri for creating it!!
The guy that plays Mush is the real guy. This is how unlucky he was. When he died the hearse he was in got a flat tire. That’s a true story. Chaz told it on his podcast. RIP MUSH!!!
29:33 he's 17 MJ, most kids at 17 care about thr opinions of others
You gotta understand. It was a different time during the early 50's to the mid-60's. Look at how messed up kids are now because we DON'T whup their ass anymore.
You beat me to it. If he's nine years old it starts right then and there. If he can be involved in that money making, he can get a tough lesson......
She had a really hard time understanding this movie - she’s too young to get it
@@lrob5657 He shes only 20 so I take some things with a grain of salt
@@brandonethereal1084 yeah she’s younger so she doesn’t quite get it
She doesn't understand Tribalism..I dated a women from Tanzania Africa...They have 172 tribes..Do you think you could just walk into another tribes territory..Let alone date or marry..( back 50 60 80 years ago)) The sane was true for the America's Indians..It was the government who purposely caused this fiction, to drive people's of European descent out the cities into the suburbs..Where they were replaced by middle eastern & Asian people's
This movie is underrated. Slick told that kid on the bus, "go back to Webster Ave where he belongs." Which in Certain Areas in New York would be filled by people of their own race. As a New Yorker this movie has thought me alot, 1) men are only allowed 3 great women in their lives. 2) Its better to be loved than feard 3. 4) The mario test is overrated. 5) The door test works .
This is my favorite movie of all time. So many life lessons lol 17:39 growing up in Brooklyn, we were always told, "You'll understand when you get older" cuz there's no easy way to explain to a kid what the mafia is, how they work, what they do, etc. Lorenzo literally said it in the beginning: "It's not what you tell him. It's what he sees. The money, cars, clothes." The life is intoxicating and easily influences a lot of people, especially kids. That's how henry hill ended up working for the mob. Also during the boxing match, you know damn well that when the mafia offers you something, they're gonna want something in return.
Such a classic. Especially for a Bronx native like myself. Enjoy!
Great movie and reaction. It's funny how DeNiro tells "C" that he should date within his race when he dated and married Black women in real life. He loves women of color which is cool AF!
Girl you got to understand Lorenzo being the way he is towards his son. He made the most sense as a Dad than most fathers in movies back then. He was right for the most part. He just didnt see him the way his son saw him. I do love your reactions though, they are very genuine ❤️ I been waiting for you to react to this. I saw this when i was a kid and fell in love with it.
I relate to this movie so much...as a kid my dad owned a bakery in Providence and some connected people used to hang in there and I obv gravitated towards it
One fun fact is that DeNiro was actually actually married to a black woman in real life, I think twice, you can see a little smirk on his face when he speaks against it in this movie, like he couldn't say it with a straight face. 😄
Some not so fun facts is how real the discrimination and hate has been in these NY area Italian neighborhoods, even decades later. In 1989 they killed a black teen in their Brooklyn neighborhood, and another one in Howard Beach, Queens. Even against other white people, I know a white girl from Kansas whose family moved to an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn in the 80s when she was young, and was picked on and told to go back where she came from. And even against other Italians, in the first season of Jersey Shore, 2009, on camera, a Jersey couple tells one of the show's couples to "go back to New York"! They're very hateful of anyone different from them. They try to act tolerant at first, but this movie is accurate, if you're in the wrong place or they're angry, the racist ones will show themselves.
Even though he was always rich, Trump is from this type of intolerant white neighborhood, and it shows to anyone who's familiar with it.
Webster Ave the Bronx!! Not Australia!!😂😂😂
lol that was funny when she said that
Sad fact abt this movie: When the kids friends chase and insult the black kid on the bus, That was what the 50s and 60s were like, Segregation all the time, white ppl getting the fancy and nice stuff, while my black ppl only got dirty and old stuff smh😔🤦🏽♂️
did you just recently learn about history? Cause this is common knowledge, look up native american history Black, White, and Mexican cowboys used to hunt my ancestors and cut their scalps off for money so don't act like a victim.
Everyone who listened in 8th grade history knows this, look up Native American history Black, white, and Mexican cowboys used to hunt kill and scalp my ancestors for money, no one is innocent…..
Not doing research before a movie is a good way to get commenters involved too. Let THEM tell you all about it ha.
Sonny was teaching C not to be a douche, but c's father knows better. He knows what life sonny lives. They both mean well just different methods. And that girl (no matter what color) is so beautiful.
Pops did right slapping bro bc who the hell are u talking to
I love how "divine intervention" stepped into Cee's life. It took all people that were negative people out of his life in one night. Those clown ass friends of his and Sonny.
I'm so glad you finally checked this movie out MJ bcuz it is so goated
One you accept a favor, you OWE a favor. Once you accept from mobsters, you owe them one in return. C’s dad understands this.
I learned a great life lesson from this movie, and i was in my 20s when it came out- Sonny to C "what are you doing? It cost you 20$ to guarantee that guy will never bother you again, you got off cheap, that guy will never ask you for money again"
🙏🏾 MJ for reacting to this one. We all were patiently waiting. I would not classify this movie as a crime/ thriller like Goodfellas or other mafia based movies. Instead, I would describe it as a coming of age story that just happens to involve a mob boss. I loved the theme of fear vs. love as it related to the Sonny and Lorenzo characters, respectively. I enjoyed this movie during my initial watch, and subsequent views after helped me gain an appreciation for it. It was definitely a gem from my childhood.
"Sonny" is a common nickname for the Italian names "Salvatore", "Santo", or "Santino".
18:00 Nah that's just a father teaching his son the reality of life so he doesn't become a man who cant control his emotions like gangsters and thugs. (kids are smarter than you think especially if you talk to them like a human)
11:18 They’re doing the sign of the cross. Italians are known for being Catholic so in the Catholic culture every time we pass either a church or even the cemetery we do the sign of the cross.
One of the best films of the 90's.
Prediction: MJ is going to be yelling, trying not to cuss and maybe crying. One of my favorite movies
you were right
The movie is the definition of, “you live by the sword, you die by the sword”🤷♂️
Discipline is needed nowadays, kids and younger generations are lacking discipline and focus. Spanking is a must, I believe, because it is to show you manners, and living life with rules. I wouldn't do it to my kid, but others that do it, out of care for their kids, i support them on it.
The dad was always right! How do u not see that but ok your young..the dad was wrong about dating outside the your race but besides that the dad was right!! Sunny lived by the sword he died by one!! Yes sunny gave good advice but I wouldn’t my son around that kinda guy either!
The story was based on Chazz Palminteri's (Sonny) childhood who is played by 'C'. Chazz reflects on how he did see a man get shot in front of his stoop at that young age.
Chazz is an absolute genius writer, actor and director!Thru most of the movie,C's dad thought he was grooming him to be a mobster, but Sonny didn't want C to be that either but would C's dad wouldn't know that right?Remember at the time the movie was made,we were still coming out this shit nonsense.hence the racist type shit!Love has color girl!Fact and i know 1st hand
This movie has been a mainstay in my life, DeNiro is one of the most solid dudes In Hollywood and unlike his character in the movie, married to a black woman in real life lol.
He also can't stand Orange face my kind of guy.
@17:36 um he basically said what you said just in a more harsh way . A smack wasn't considered abuse back in the day
@@kingp109 she don’t get it bruh
You have to remember that the 1960’s were completely different times especially in parts of New York like the Bronx,Brooklyn and othe predominantly Italian neighborhoods. A mixed couple during those times was very rare. Sammy Davis Jr was with a white woman but was forced into marrying a black woman for a year because his album sales would have dropped drastically. I’m 46 years old and I was raised that love is love and it doesn’t matter what color someone’s skin is. If you’re in love then you’re in love. It’s good that times have changed but racism still exists all over the world which is sad. Nobody is born a racist, that horrible shit it taught unfortunately. Once the older generation stops teaching the younger generation to hate people because of their skin color then maybe we can grow as a society and put things behind us that don’t even make sense. But even in 2024 look at what these political parties, media are trying to do. Separate is because of our skin color, religious beliefs and other differences we have. To me that’s what makes us humans amazing. The difference. Imagine how boring it would be if we were all the same? We humans are capable of such wonderful and amazing things. But we are also capable of such disgusting and devastating things like wars and killing each other. There have been killings and wars since the beginning of civilization. I think that it’s time that we evolve and move forward. Like The Beatles said “Give Peace a Chance “.
Have you ever seen This Boy's Life (1993)? Starring Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Ellen Barkin. I think you would find it interesting. Based on a true story.
I remember seeing alittle of that, Robert De Niro character was fucked up abusing DiCaprio’s character. I been through abuse that shit never go away
Sonny and C’s father are from the same neighborhood and they respected each other from afar. But I think Sonny if anything was jealous of C’s father. I think he wanted to be like him in a way, and C’s father never hated Sonny. It was just his lifestyle and he knew the kind of man he was and it was the fact he was afraid he would turn C’s into what he was. I wished those guys had a actual talk just them two nobody around and they kicking it about C’s. One of my favorite movies of all times
Just like tupac said, have to worry about some kid you ruff up way back. Rat a tat tat tat..
The girl who plays C's lady also stars in belly. Idk if u reacted that on your channel or not. But if u haven't it's a damn good one to do soon.
Check channel
She's also a crazy talented singer. She remade Denise Williams' 'Silly' and I think she did a damn good job.
He said go back to Webster Ave
They said Webster Avenue not Australia
"Put em in the f#ckin Batrume" 😂😂😂
Monique - French origin
Danielle - Hebrew origin
I have done this test so many times in life
@25:55 naaah his pops PAID for them seats with his hard earned money, he aint down with taking handouts!
Yeah she had a lot a wack takes during this film
I will forever cry to this movie the scenes, shots, chemistry. Ugh, I can't 🥰😍🥹
This is a movie I can watch over and over!
One of my faves!!! But MJ they said Webster Ave., not Australia. Webster Avenue is where black people lived at the time in the Bronx.
Webster Avenue not Australia
Love this movie. But Lorenzo was a great dad in this movie. Surprised it went over your head.
Single mother thought.🇺🇸🇮🇹/🇲🇽
The story is really based on chazz real life
This is top 3 mafia movie. Sonny was great, he helped raise C become a better man getting an education from school & the streets. De Niro's character was a great father & he didn't see how Sonny was helping C be better than him.
In my opinion, this is definitely one of those movies/stories that needs to be shown to younger people, I wish I heard these lessons and morals when I was in my late teens early twenties.
Casino is one of my all time favorites. Definitely check that out
Always like your reactions, an like that you dont look into movies before hand to get that true first hand experience watching movies
The substance, scenery, soundtrack, symbolism, simply superb cinema. Sincerely saying smiling.
They dont make great movies like this anymore.
Cal’s childhood friends were not really his friends because they were racists. What I don’t understand is that when Sonny died how come nobody was crying at his funeral because I thought that they all respected him?
For the record the biker story is a real story and it actually happened. Later the the leader of that gang was killed for his actions.
"Hey Calogero, u wanna Fanta?"
I LOOOVE this movie! Chaz Palmenteri , during interviews, admits to the scene about witnessing the shooting, but gets evasive about other details, claiming most of it is fictional. Which is okay, of course. “ The saddest thing in the world is wasted talent “. I will NEVER forget that. And the soundtrack is outstanding !❤
After watching this video I will say tough fathers are needed.. as the kid of a man who indulged in illicit activities, I would be dead or in jail had I not had a father to slap the shit outta me if I decided to go down that route.. just as much as I was spoiled he was equally tough on me and i appreciate that
Please do Casino(1995) it's a rollercoaster ride and a classic
YESSSSS‼️‼️‼️‼️ Somebody beat me to it lmao but it doesn’t matter I’m so glad u are finally reacting to this. This is one of my favorite movies👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I don't know the answer to the question of Sonny being an Italian name but, I do know that Sonny in the Godfather was the nickname of Santino.
I’m so happy you did this film, it’s one of my favorites. Sonny is my favorite movie character of all time. I actually met Chaz Palminteri in person he’s a great guy.
Imagine if you were the father.
I was just in the Bronx for a week and it's definitely mostly black now lol. They definitely moved in. Idk where the Italians are now.

Fun fact: Chazz (sonny) is “C” in real life. So Chazz played Sonny the mob boss in this movie. That kid said “go back to Webster ave” not Australia 😅 man idk whether to cry or to laugh with you
Hey MJ I am almost done with this video, but I had to pause and comment because I am at the point that you are talking about Whites being with Blacks and vice versa. I am a White guy and there was a time that I really liked a Black Woman; in my adult life, in the not-too-distant past, there were 3 different black Women that I liked; not at the same time though. But one of them in particular I liked so much that it got me to talk to my Parents about her. I asked them what they would think and how they would feel about me dating a Black Woman. They both said that if we liked each other and as long as I was happy, they wouldn't mind. I am glad that they said that and that they feel that way, but even if they didn't, if I had that opportunity, I would have taken it. I also remember liking a Black Girl when I was in 2nd Grade, but nothing came of that either.
