Dear Robert that was the time when Argentina ruled the football dynasty however, Cameroon showed their character defeating the defending champions as they brought about a real upset.
The whole of Africa was behind Cameroon at this tournament. I remember watching this match as 12 year old Nigerian on the streets of Lagos. Cameroon did us proud.

Surely so. I was 20 years then. The performances were emulated by Senegal in 2002 in Japan and Ghana in 2010. These are the countries who are again going to raise the flag of Africa in Qatar. Other countries must emulate these giants of Africa

We did great at USA 94 and we were 2 minutes close to eliminating Super power Italy. We entertained the world while at it and got the 5th best entertaining team at that World cup. Same team eventually went on to win the Atlanta 96 Olympic gold beating world powers Brazil at the semis and Argentina at the final.
As Africans, we are all going to back all the African teams at Qatar and I wish them best of luck.

I remember this game very well and I was 12 years. This was the first world cup to be broadcast live in our TV screens in South Africa. Each time Cameroon was in possession and attacking Argentina - my people would shout "MAYIBUYE i-AFRICA" - indeed it was a proud day for Africa and particularly for us South Africans as we were getting even closer to be liberated from colonial rule.
South Africa is still a colony, today.

Cameroon would go on to face England in the quarter final ending their quest for the world championship. This is the match that had sent a message to the whole world, that African football had come of age at last and that henceforth we would no longer be the underdog. What a match this was.

Despite the fact that Cameroon is down by 9 men to 11 but their phisical tactics have overcome Maradona and his poor boys and their only prayer was the refree to end the game for them to have a sigh of relief cause 45 minutes were more like 90 minutes for them ,what a game,what a chilling, it was so sensational and memorable 😂

Omam Biyik was always class in the air. Scored some great headers over his career. When he played in Mexico a great headed goal was known as an Omam Biyik!
I remember watching this. I knew that is a game which will be remember for ever. That was a football history. Mighty Argentina with Diego - World Champion bested by "underdogs" from Cameroon (although in Africa there were big) finishing game in 9... and scoring when playing in 10. Incredible feat. I was so happy for Cameroon that day.
Today, sadly to say, Maradona passed away. As player he was nicely talented. Respect from Brazil!

La rigidez del equipo mostrada en el primer tiempo se ve corregida por los ingresos de Cani y Calderon.
Notoriamente la falta de punch en el area contraria perjudicaba al equipo. Aunque ironicamente las mejores oportunidades las tiene Argentina en el primer tiempo.
En el segundo tiempo no conecta un solo remate al arco.
Se extrañan mucho el tipo de volante como Burruchaga, Basualdo o Calderon que no trasladaban la pelota. Tocaban y se movian.
Nada parecido a lo que fueron DiMaria y demases para Messi que son mas delanteros que medios.

I was in 5th grade that year, and our teachers led us to the audiovisual room to watch the second half. As soon as the match was over , I take a bus and ran to watch the news and talk about the match with my friends. Next we went to a field behind my house to play football and we called our teams Argentina and Cameroon.

I remember watching this game, the best Cameroon team ever, they had a real following in England and were very much respected. If I’m honest they should have beaten a very good England side in the quarters...it took us 2 penalties to get past them. Yet of course it was Maradona in the final - how did the great Argentina team of 1986 become so poor in just 4 years? 1990 World Cup was one of my favourites and with the England team doing well it led to Football becoming popular after the horrible hooligan era of the 1980s.... a few years later the Premier league started and Sky pumped money into the game... we haven’t looked back since..... ⚽️

Feels like it was just yesturday for me. Ive watch the full coverage of the Fifa world cup italia 90. Each time fifa world cup happens i always picture it fifa world cup italia 90. And it was my very first World cup viewd on tv there for it was my special first time cup for me. And sure was 28 years ago. But thank god it wasnt 40+ years ago otherwise i be dead. And funny how they show videos like this. I recall watching this in much much better high quality and live. When i watched it on tv. It didn't look as poor graded as most videos where. I watched it as if it was close to HD.
