I mix black watercolor paint using two colours to paint a small Australian bird called a Willie Wagtail. I demonstrate how I layer the paint to allow for variation in the black paint.

You are the best watercolor artist on utube
I love that you are a judge for Women in Watercolor!
Thank you Joyce. I'm honoured and very excited!
Oh I love the laughs with the bloopers, you are so funny! Love that you still make them despite the experience you have. I think most of your groupies wait till the end for them. Love this little bird and it’s name! Wish they were more creative over here with names like that. My favourite blacks and greys and browns are with the same colours too! I even have a bowl dedicated to them called my ummm “ grey bowl”. ( so creative 🙄) easiest way to make amazing black and best with WN Burnt sienna as it is more red and vibrant than true burnt sienna in my humble opinion. Thank you for another tutorial. They always make me want to run to my studio as watching you and “ pinkies up” so relaxing and inspiring. Hugs from Texas.
Thanks so much Alison for your lovely message. Reading it was a beautiful way to start my day. 💕
I never get tired of your birds (or any other paintings either). Roger Fance's photos are amazing!

You are so cute and funny. Love your tutorials
🌻Hello Louise, I have just discovered your tutorials and am thrilled to find an artist with humility; that you are un afraid to show that you to make mistakes.....( bloopers 😉)....just like everyone else.....Breath of fresh air.
There are too many ‘artists’ here on ‘the tube’ that are simply interested in solely selling their own products! Totally understand that we all have to make a living, never the less it is not necessary to tell folk, especially beginners that ‘their products’, or ‘their ways’ are ‘the right way’. Something I have found, is that we all have our own way of painting, and so find/develop our own style.
One particular artist here on UT told me off for helping a beginner on how to achieve a certain color that he was selling as his own colour! 😔 I simply stated that he could use two colours in certain ratios to achieve the same color, one of the colors being white. The ‘artist’ then fired back at me stating “You should never use white”....to which I replied... “then why is white there for us ALL to use”? No reply, only condemnation for daring to help someone. So sad and arrogant.
🌹Thank you from a lowly serf. 🤗
Thanks so much Cheryl. 🤗
👌👌👌
Love the bird and the tutorial, you always make it look so easy. And the outtakes. 😆Water classes? Water classes? 🤔Is that swimming or painting?🤷♀ "Willie Wagtail can be found all over the place" you could have said. Just trying to be helpful here. 😆
Hello Louise … I absolutely love your tutorials and painting style. I am a beginner and have chosen you as my mentor I am planning on joining your Patreon channel first of June. I am gathering supplies as was wondering if you have a video on basic starter supplies and/ or any suggestions on a supply list. Thank you for all these wonderful videos and I love, love, love your outtakes at the end. Looking forward to painting with you.
Thank you so very much,
Doreen
Hi Doreen, thank you! I look forward to painting with you too. On Patreon I have some written posts about supplies and each tutorial comes with a supplies list. You'll have access to that when you join. I use mainly Winsor & Newton paints. Arches cold press is my favourite paper and my favourite brushes are Da Vinci Maestros series 35. You don't need to buy the Maestro brushes when you first start. I used to use synthetic brushes when I began painting in watercolour. I used Winsor & Newton Cotman brushes for the first few years.
@@LouiseDeMasi Great! Thank you for the speedy reply so very excited to start.
What a beautiful little bird. Your blacks just glow! What brush did you use for the tiny feather markings?
how do you get such a clean palet without washing out your other paints . also i have a aussie water colur i use i can tell you what it is if my brain works its good for all aussie paintings .
nice painting, i like it. Only problem is, it doesn't look like any wagtail i have ever seen. The classic fantail is not there, i wonder if ...it's a juvenile bird that fell out of a nest and damaged its tail feathers. Just wondering...thanks for the painting demo.
Louise, all right with you?

Hello Louise De Masi , .
I like your tutorials very much. I am 90 years old trying to learn how to paint watercolours and find your tutorials very helpful. Thank you Brian.
Hi Brian. Thank you very much. I'm glad you find them helpful.
I can’t seem to get on the Patreon site.
Hi Becky, if you are using the Patreon app on an iPad try logging into Patreon though your internet browser instead- Firefox and Google Chrome work best with Patreon. Also try turning the device you are using off and on again and try a different device as well. If none of that works send me an email. You can contact me through my website www.louisedemasi.com
@@LouiseDeMasi , thank you so much. Got in. Love your tutorials and your talent.
