I find it interesting that while he was alive, it was the rock and jazz cats that waved his flag. Nowadays, aside from Dweezil and a few bands with various erstwhile band members, it's the classical musicians playing the catalog, especially the Jazz From Hell repertoire. These Synclavier pieces were deemed impossible to play by humans, and while that might be technically true, note for note, Ensemble Moderne and Fuse are obviously doing one strapping job of getting close. Frankly (pun intended), the Jazz From Hell stuff sounds cold to me. The various versions by the classical cats seem inviting and full of fire. I welcome them. Bravo, and thanks for. your dedication and obvious bravery.

Jeetje, jammer dat ik die uitzending heb gemist. Dat podium Witteman is echt erg leuk, heel gevarieerd. Van klassiek klassiek, tot fusion en wereldmuziek.
In addition to the wonderful violinists, this shows how essential clarinets can be. An instrument that largely disappeared from jazz and especially rock starting in the late 1950's. Zappa is a hero for keeping music broad and appealing to us baby boomers.
Superb. Totally the right treatment. Scale snd mode were perfect.
I love how into it the two violinists were. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face the whole time.

Frank took the creative chaos of abstract music that came before, but expertly infused it with attractive melodies, engaging rhythms, and fascinating harmonies to make it very approachable and enjoyable to listen to by all kinds of music lovers, and not just the weirdos.
