빅스의 래퍼 라비가 데뷔 5년만에 첫번째 미니앨범 [R.EAL1ZE]를 발매한다.
빅스 멤버 중 첫 솔로 주자로 활동하게 된 라비는 2012년 빅스의 데뷔이래 팀의 래퍼로서 지난 5년간 발매해온 빅스의 거의 전곡에 랩메이킹을 담당해왔다. 또한 직접 작사 작곡한 곡을 빅스의 앨범에 다수 수록하는 등 싱어송라이터로서 두각을 보여 왔다.
또한 2015년 8월 빅스의 멤버 레오와 함께 유닛 그룹 빅스 LR 로 발매한 앨범에서 작사, 작곡은 물론 프로듀서로서도 첫 데뷔하며 모든 작업에 직접 참여하였고, 이 후 2016년 초 발매한 첫 번째 믹스테잎 ‘R.EBIRTH’, 그리고 7월 젤리박스 프로젝트 ‘DamnRa’까지 쉬지 않고 꾸준히 작업하며 솔로 아티스트로서의 역량을 한껏 발휘하였다.
그리고 2017년 1월, 라비의 첫 솔로 프로젝트 [R.EAL1ZE]를 선보인다. 라비는 본인 솔로 앨범의 프로듀서로서 직접 참여하며 프로젝트의 완성도를 높였으며, 빅스속의 라비의 모습과는 또 다른 오롯이 ‘라비’만의 색깔을 만들어 내기 위해 심혈을 기울였다.
이번 솔로 미니앨범에는 San E, 정용화, Microdot, Jero, ESBEE, 빅스의 켄까지 내로라하는 실력파 뮤지션들이 라비의 앨범을 빛내 주기 위해 앨범 작업에 참여하였다. 발표하는 곡들마다 대중의 많은 사랑을 받으며 ‘히트메이커’로 자리매김한 대세 래퍼 San E와 CNBLUE의 리더이자 다수의 실력파 뮤지션들과의 호흡을 맞추며 솔로 가수로도 활동하고 있는 정용화가 라비의 첫 번째 솔로 앨범 작업에 피처링으로 함께했다. 여기에 빅스의 메인보컬인 켄이 힘을 보탰으며, 감성 R&B 보컬리스트 ESBEE와 다양한 힙합 프로그램을 통해 이름을 알린 래퍼 Microdot과 어반 R&B 신에서 주목받고 있는 신인 Jero까지 참여해 앨범의 완성도를 높였다.
[R.EAL1ZE]의 타이틀곡 ‘BOMB’은 파워풀한 에너지가 느껴지는 곡이다. 도입부의 오케스트라가 인상적인 트랩 사운드의 곡으로, 라비의 자신감과 포부를 담은 가사와 San E의 익살스러운 래핑이 돋보인다. 폭탄이 터지는 듯한 사운드는 라비만의 강렬한 에너지를 느끼게 해줄 것이다.
‘BOMB’의 뮤직비디오는 젤리박스 프로젝트 ‘DamnRa’와 VIXX 2016 CONCEPTION KER의 타이틀곡 ‘Milky Way’를 통해 환상적인 호흡을 보여주었던 비숍감독과 다시 한 번 작업하게 되었다. 라비는 뮤직비디오 기획 회의부터 함께 참여하여 많은 아이디어를 낼 정도로 콘텐츠에 대한 애정을 보여주었고, 그 결과 미치광이 화가, 지휘자, 용접공 등 독특한 캐릭터가 탄생하게 되었다. 라비가 직접 다양한 캐릭터들을 연기하며 마치 폭탄이 터져버릴 듯한 강렬한 뮤직비디오가 완성되었다. 또한 피쳐링을 함께 한 San E가뮤직비디오에도 함께 출연하며 라비에 대한 애정을 과시하였다.

I'm so proud of ravi. I heard a lot of people saying good things about his music and my friends also really liked bomb. But sadly I saw many "starlights" saying bad things about him in the comments...

I've been updated on the issue. I agree with you. Alot of "fans" act like antis now. The double standard is wrong and I wish Ravi didn't have to change the MV (just explain, which he did). I'm proud he apologized and took responsibility because he doesn't want misunderstandings. I just hope that the real Starlights that I am proud of will continue to support Ravi and VIXX through everything. Ravi needs to win. He has worked too hard not to win.

I think the reason viewers uses CJ channel is because they've put English subtitles, thus international viewers are able to understand the song easier. Hopefully in the near future for these boys, they'll be able to put English subtitles when an MV is released (Just a suggestion).

I think jelpi is one of the best companies out there and I think they are doing great on supporting Ravi. They let him do a mixtape, they let him produce and write music for their albums and now he is the first soloist of VIXX! Since he is debuting, you can't expect the company to ignore the unreasonable hate he got. Fans didn't complain about the other examples I gave? You weren't that focused on them then because Zero For Conduct shocked a lot of fans and Zico was criticized because of both MV and lyrics. But oh well, guess this is the world we live in. I think its because VIXX is very in tune with what the Fandom feels. So of course Ravi seeing a lot of Starlights uncomfortable with the girls, asked the company to remove them from the video and apoligized. VIXX is one of those few groups that are very communicative with their fandom.

but after reading everyone's comments, I'm kind of pissed that they deleted a scene just because some people couldn't handle it.... I mean, it's what Ravi wanted, and if we were true st☆rlights, then we wouldn't have cared about it and supported Ravi for what he did.
This can even go to other kpop fans who just stumbled across the other video. I mean, if your idol did something like that what would you do? there's a ton of videos like that, even for popular kpop bands too. Yet, I don't see people criticising them.
And also for jelpi. Jelpi, your idol imagined something brilliant, yet you decided to back down and do what the media wanted. no, you don't just do that, you're supposed to be supporting your star.

It's not Jelpi's fault, even Ravi apologised on his personal twitter. If anything it's the K starlights that actually thought that he was objectifying women and wanted Ravi to edit out the scenes in the MV. Jelpi probably edited out the scenes with RAVI'S consent because he treasures Starlight's opinion much more than his own art direction. So I don't think Jelpi is to be blamed here.
one thing that people are missing about this (and i am not saying I agree with the fact it had to be changed because I don't it was a total of 5 seconds out of a 3 and a half minute video.) is that South Korea is kind of strict about how its women are viewed. which is kind of comedic to me considering how some girl groups are portrayed but they don't like to have the male idols/rappers oversexualize women that's why things that don't alarm us are sometimes considered 19+ and given that there are exceptions you have less women involved in the Khiphop scene. Ravi is going to catch hell (which disgusts me) because he is new to this. He isn't like G-dragon or Zico or Jay Park who can get away with a lot of shit because they earned their spot. He is a small company performer that is trying to prove that he can be something bigger. While it is awesome and inspirational to international starlights that he is trying to do his own thing. Just like Suga with his Agust D mixtape. It was bomb as hell but he couldn't sell it as an album because of what he discussed in his lyrics. To some people in South Korea it looks bad because of how they view women and relationships there. If you pay attention to Ravi you know he wouldn't objectify anyone. He is too nervous around the female dancers to really even talk with them (watch behind the scenes of damn ra and you'll see what I am referring to) He would have done the music video thing to point out a stereo type or to show a difference between reality and fantasy. it had a deeper meaning but we don't get to really look into it now because its been edited.
You can be a true fan AND have an opinion at the same time and if you think that what your idol did was wrong you say it, it doesn't make you a bad fan. Unconditional support is stupid it only causes problems. Even though Im not a starlight and I don't think that what Ravi did was wrong if I thought my faves made a mistake I would try to let them know cause that's how people learn and become better.

K guys..the international fans keep saying that national fans wanted the video to be edited because of the women appearing in the video. Well, in my understanding, the public was attacking Ravi first, and so the Starlights wanted it to be edited out so that people will stop cursing at him for being a feminist or something. However, first, can we all just stop accusing each other everyone? Regardless of which decision is right or wrong? We all have different cultures and different point of views. And since Ravi is a Korean living in Korea, it makes sense that they had to edit it out because of what the public said. And second. Do u guys think to accuse each other will do anything good? Starlights and VIXX have an excellent image in the K-pop world. We basically have almost never have had a fight with anyone really, not even with the other fandoms. But we're accusing each other? I get that we are all upset, but like I said, we have different cultures and different point of view.
Plus, some people are saying that the original mv showed Ravi's real side of music..? something like that. But you guys are missing the fact that the idols aren't the ones who make and film the mv. It's the director and the staffs. Most of the time, the idols don't take part in the actually mv.

They are also saying the lyrics are like "disrespectful towards women" or something like that with his songs on the album. I get that what you guys are trying to do is telling him that he did nothing wrong, and how the original wasn't bad at all, and etc and I get that this is also a way of showing support to him. However, because of the difference in cultures, there just has to be some kind of a disagreement with the International and the National Starlights. And I understand that everyone is mad, but being a Korean Starlight living in America who read and understood both sides, it seems like we all have our own reasons. Please, let's just stop everything and start streaming for now. The lyrics problem is really controversial since it's like half and half for the argument, and we can't really do anything about lyrics anyway. There are many K-Starlights streaming this, I know that as a fact. And the reason why there aren't many Korean comments is because English is the language that is commonly spoken, bringing most Intl-Starlights to speak English. There is literally a comment saying "This 1 Korean that is working hard to find Korean," since they want to talk so much with other K-Starlights because they're comfortable that way. In that thread, there are many other K-Starlights because they feel the same way as the original commenter. Plus, I don't see many English comments if any on sites such as Naver's video hub.

All these people defending the original Bomb MV for all the wrong reasons.

It is NOT okay, no matter who does it, and it's precisely because we don't want Ravi going down that slope or having that kind of reputation that people complained.
Yes, the MV definitely meant something deeper--It's Ravi, and he would never be disrespectful to women, BUT not everyone who watches the MV is a starlight. Not everyone knows how much of sweetheart he is and how artistic he can get. The first impression can make or break how people see him, and the original MV looked like he was objectifying women.

I didn't, but I had to rewatch it two or three more times to get it. Do you think someone who already thought he was objectifying women on the first watch would watch it again to understand what Ravi had meant? They won't. They wouldn't bother.
The lashback is worse because he had previously called sexist rappers out before (see Damnra) and to be seen objectifying women now makes him a hypocrite. Is that the kind of impression you want non-fans to have of Ravi? Not for me.

Only a small fraction of the fandom says that, and it has nothing to do with the issue Ravi himself had addressed--misogyny and sexism.
Jelpi and Ravi edited the video because they recognized that, yes, they had been misunderstood and that they would rather amend it than let Ravi be named a hypocritical, sexist rapper.

Ravi is just beginning to introduce himself as a solo artist. He cannot afford to limit his audience. As much as it sucks that he got censored, they had to do what would be best for him and his career in the *long run*.
The best thing we can do now is buy copies of his album, stream his songs and the MV, vote for him, or send him encouraging messages, or as many of those as we could instead of fighting among ourselves. Can we do that? If not for ourselves, for Ravi at least. He worked so hard for this and, if you care enough to defend him, then care enough to do what you can to make his solo debut successful.
The thing is that forcing the edit, just draws attention to it as if there was extreme & legitimate concern for it being misogynistic. The people that don't care about VIXX wouldn't have watched the video anyway but the headline "VIXX Ravi apologizes for misogynistic MV & releases edited version" will cause more hate as many people will just read a headline, so it hit him hard for his official solo debut. Many of the non-fans that see an article or headline like that won't go looking into the original music video that Jellyfish deleted - it takes too much effort so they'll assume that the MV must have been really offensive to warrant having it deleted.
Only fans know about the commentary in DamnRa, non-fans wouldn't know about that & condemn him for being a hypocrite.
As for the explanation about the "trophies" line & that he was surrounded by girls for that part - is a complete lie! The women didn't even show up in the background of a shot until almost a minute later. The song never even mentions women at all, he didn't say anything misogynistic. The other rapper in trouble for misogynist lyrics is in trouble for lyrics, which none of which here in Bomb fit that.
I could understand the issue about women in lingerie for the extremely conservative bunch but as people have stated, there have been worse videos that were undeniably blatant with their objectification of women (Jay Park with Mommae & Gary with Shower Later, among others) but there wasn't the same backlash for them. It really does feel like more of this is about the fact that Ravi was surrounded by pretty half-naked women, no one complained about his nudity - if you are to argue sexual objectification then it shouldn't be selective to only the women in the MV. If he were fully clothed with half naked women around him that would make for a better argument but he was also half naked.

Personally, I would have liked an explanation or a commentary video or text to let us all better understand the MV, but...well, I can't control Jelpi and Ravi. Ravi being him, I'm guessing he would rather take the hit than hear that his fans misunderstood or were offended by the mv.
And yes, women weren't mentioned in the lyrics at all, which is why some people argue the ladies were used as props and nothing else, but I believe it was supposed to mean something deeper. Then again, like I said, not everyone will dig deeper once they see it and feel like he was objectifying them.
Comparing Ravi to those artists really doesn't help. Ravi is from a small company with a relatively smaller following than those artists.
No, him being in his undies as well does not make the situation any better. It must have been a move to counteract what he knew would be cries of sexism. You have to keep in mind that the majority of the fanbase is in Korea and it's still a largely conservative country. Along with that, and the fact that male and female nudity are not viewed equally (if they were, then why do people freak out when they see a woman's nipples but not when they see man's?), it was bound to get some flak.
Rizel Aunzo Yes, I agree that it would have been nice to get an explanation as to what exactly the point was that he was trying to get across. So then the fans could know the reason for the women in the video. The lack of an explanation & the headlines surrounding the issue just make it look like an admission of women being used solely for eye candy.
I also believe that there is a reason for the women being in the video & it not just being as sexy props which is why I feel that we miss out on the intended storyline of the video by not having them in it. So it feels more like censoring a message in art than it does removing misogynist imagery.
I am just saying that it is kind of crazy to see an issue blow up out of an mv that is really tame in comparison to videos that were undeniably & exclusively for sexually objectifying women.
For me & some other fans as well, it makes more sense to claim the women are used as eye candy props when the man is fully dressed. Because then the focus is solely placed on a man surrounded by hot half-naked women, who will often capture attention more than the man. Ravi being half naked around women that are half naked is equal. The female audience would objectify Ravi & whatever small male audience (given that he is a boy band member, most of his fanbase is female) will focus on the women.
I know that Korea is conservative in some ways but in others - not so much. It is very disappointing to see so much negative attention towards Ravi's official solo debut because of fans that blew something up that likely would not have been a cause for concern if they hadn't. The majority of the audience for Ravi's video would have been Starlights only so it would have been relatively contained from scrutiny. But instead, the headlines & such have certainly had a negative impact.
