Ricky Ponting Run Out Compilation - Some of the Best Run Outs of All Time

  • Ricky Ponting the former Tasmanian and Australian Cricket Captain was best known for his blistering stroke play with the bat but all those that followed his career more closely know he was arguably one of the GOATS ( Greatest of All Time) when it came to fielding. His reactions and hand eye coordination were second to none, and his ability to get to the ball, pick it up and throw down the stumps with pin point accuracy was a hallmark of his game. With Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds and Michael Clarke in the infield for Australia, it was very hard for batsmen to get an easy single let alone pearce the gap to pick up a boundary. They literally made the field smaller for batsmen to place the ball.

@@kurdtttCobainnn .. it’ll be rare to find that footage from the 90’s. Ponting has that luxury.
That said, Over all, I agree, Ponting could do it all.
But Jonty got picked for his fielding. A fielder who could sometimes bat. Just saying.
He revolutionised fielding and therefore is seen as the God if fielding. He is worth 40-60 runs in an odi. In fielding.
Even more in test cricket. Nothing got past him f it was in range. And he has had some great run outs too. Only blight is that he didn’t consistently hit them like Ponting. Ponting fielded all over and close to the bat. Jonty owned Gully. And more often than not; batsmen wasn’t as keen to take on Jonty as they did Ponting. Just saying.
Just saying that Jonty is picked in my All time 11.. and that’s for what he brought to the field!

He needs 360° vision to avoid blocking the fast-moving players, avoid getting hit by the ball, see when the bails are dislodged, and see whether the batsman (running in a line beside the pitch) was beyond the batting crease. Ricky Ponting (80 RO’s in 560 matches) may have the record but Jonty Rhodes had (68 RO’s from only 297 matches) with Sanath Jayasuriya 3rd with (63 from 586) As an Aussie I am proud of Ponting but Rhodes’ stats are undeniably superb. I once saw Joel Garner throw a side on direct hit RO from the boundary at the SCG. A remarkable feat.

To be fair, look at the team around Ponting for most of his career, considering most people were being bowled, stumped or caught or run out by other freakish fielding. He probably only had like 110 chances at a run out and got 80 of those lol
