@@nochistar Justin ;), Yes, you are correct! Extremely expensive but then Everything is these days,, LOL! I am richer than all billionaires combined because I know I have enough. We live near by, we get basic Magic Key Passes, which pays for themselves after a very few visits. We do Not buy unhealthy/expensive food in the park, or outside the park. We do Not pay a ridiculous $35 for parking... etc. Like you, We love the inspiration, nostalgia and magic of the one and only Original Disneyland.

I really appreciate a fellow hand carver. People vastly underestimated the work and time that goes into finishing these type of mask. Ive recently had the difficulty of dealing with a new vendor at our local tiki market in Texas who isn't interested in learning the history of these and cuts out "tikis" all day long on an cnc and prices them at a fraction of what I do and prices me out as most people would rather have get 2 or 3 tikis for the price of one of my hand carved one. But I still love doing it and you've inspired me to get back to work and finish the Lono im working on😂!

Nicely done! there was a lot of that early history with Oceanic Arts that I didn’t know.. I was fortunate to be down designing at the park as an Imagineer when we redid Adventureland in the early 90s when Indy came into the park. I was a bit sad that things had to change like the Tahitian Terrace but I guess time moves forward. I’m glad you appreciated the use of real materials for the graphics, something I really pushed for at the time and seems to have stuck.. most everything dating back to the 1960s was fiberglass..easier for maintenance, but we were pushing for more authenticity. Small world, no pun intended, but I actually brought Ray in to carve the mahogany Indiana Jones adventure outpost marquee I had designed.. He really did do an amazing job and we’re friends to this day…

It would be amazing to do an History video on the Tahitian terrace. I was a Polynesian dancer at the Luau in Walt Disney World. There was so much tie ins in both shows. Walt really loved Polynesia and the shows and would be amazing for us Polynesians to see some of the history of our people that have been a part of Disney for a long time.

Oh, what fun! ✨ I love amusement park history. I grew up going to Disneyland in the 1960s, and I couldn't wait until I was old enough to have dinner in the Tiki Room. It was fascinating because it was so different than what we saw living in suburbia, where we might only see a homemade Tiki mask that was faintly carved and almost featureless leaning up against a bamboo fence by the pool. To us as kids, the Disney Tikis were 'the real thing' and we thought they came from far away islands, arriving by way of pirate ships.🏴‍☠
I love your recreations and creations in the Tiki masks. We lived for years in the Northeast where winters were so long. We had a winter party with music and dancing every year. I always wanted to make a Tropical Party theme in the daylight basement we had with doors to our outdoor hot tub. I would have put up fake palm trees and would have loved to have a wall of your Tiki masks.
The Big Red is interesting: it looks as though it was made from a photo of the Mandrill, a beautiful primate with a sculptured face. It looks like an authentic islander type of artifact. 🌴

    Art can be surprisingly expensive.
My maternal grandmother was a painter when she was a young woman, and I have quite a few of her canvases. Over the years the varnish has aged, there has been buildups of oil and smoke, etc. I decided to have them professionally cleaned, and was stunned at the price of doing the first one. Fortunately the result has been spectacular.
