This reminds of when napoleon returned back to France after building a small army and escaping the island of Elba. On his return the Monarchy under King Louis XVIII sent an army to stop Napoleon but when Napoleon landed on French soil his men put down their arms and the army sent to stop him joined Napoleons ranks and this occurred multiple times until Napoleon reached the gates of Paris with over 50,000 solders following him in. Absolutely one of the most incredible events in history and what is going on in Russian right now has a slight sense of this type of situation playing out. We will have to wait and see if the Russian people and solders join the ranks of Prigozhin on his march on Moscow. We might be seeing history in the making. I just hope its good for us, but time will tell, not much we can do about it now.
Well, I guess the thing is that Prigozhin at least spends or is perceived to spend times on the front lines which makes his claims of compassion towards his soldiers at least someone believable. Putin hides in Moscow, orders conscriptions and sends out body doubles to public events because he's terrified. If I were a Russian soldier on the frontline, I know who I would be inclined towards...

It was bad enough sending Wagner into Bakhmut, TBH. That was a big enough mistake. Dictators like Putin need to keep those below him from being too successful, from becoming too powerful and popular. But Putin needed military wins which the MoD couldn't provide but Prigozhin could. Prigozhin finally took Bakhmut, and he's now coming home.

I cannot help but feel that Russia will descend into a state of fractured regions ruled by brutal warlords with their own armies.
Prigozhin must have support within the Russian state apparatus otherwise he wouldn't be doing this. I can see a coup taking shape here which has the backing of certain factions of the FSB. Putin looks weak, he looks ineffective, frankly, he looks impotent and these are not characteristics that the FSB will abide for long.
The whole failed Ukraine campaign has been leading to this ever since the vast gap between Russian military rhetoric and their actual (in)capabilities became too obvious to ignore. Sadly, I think it is impossible for the rot within the Russian state structure to be fixed because the corruption of the last 20 years has simply cannibalised ever level of the country. The only thing that REALLY worked in Russia were the networks of state suppression apparatus and the military (???). The only thing left is the former and what we see now is elements of these networks moving behind the scenes to preserve their grasp on power by replacing the figurehead (Putin).

Prigozhin made it clear that he wants to continue the war. He doesn't care if the war is meaningless and started on lies which, of course, he full acknowledges. He's a patriot who wants to see Russia finish its wars with dignity and pride. Although it's unclear exactly what he considers a "victory", it probably means keeping Crimea and probably Donbass which guarantees further combat.

Let's do the math here. Wagner amounts to approximately 20% of Russian forces. Wagner is, on average, considerably better trained. Prigozhin is quite popular among the Wagner rank and file. If he goes down, Putin may still have one serious insurgency problem on his hands.
Wagner is 25000 troops, the russian army has 1.2 million active personel without mobilisation. With what theve mobilised the russian army now is close to 1.7 million strong... do your math again! Besides this seems not anything between the state and wagner but more something personel between prigozhin and shoigu.
