Is it just me or is every single jedi known as "one of the best swordsmen of their era"?

+Ross All the main jedi characters featured in the movies are the greatest jedi masters of all time.
+Ross Dooku was the best swordsman of his era. He specifically studied form 2, Makashi, which was for specifically lightsaber on lightsaber combat. He was a very strong Jedi.
After the Jedi Order failed multiple times, letting his Jedi friends die, he left the order, being the lost 20th to ever leave the Jedi order. Dooku held Yoda off. He was certainly a master of form 2.
When Anakin beat him, he wasn't fighting at 100%. He was holding back, as his Master, Sidious, told him to. Dooku is the #1 swordsman in the Jedi order in my opinion.
JobeMinacum Dooku was indeed the number 1 swordsman in the order and even for a while after he left to. Anikan however did genuinely beat him. According to the novelisation, Dooku started off toying with both Anikan and Obi Wan but this was just a ruse by the jedi pair (they were pretending to have not improved since their first encounter) later in the fight Dooku realised he was incapable of breaking Obi Wans seresu defence and beat him through force abilities, in a controlled rage Anikan then dominated Dooku ( Dooku remarks to himself that anikan had become the "finest" Djem So master he had ever encountered).
Dooku then abandons his plan to allow himself to be captured realising he was not in control but ultimately was not capable of matching anikan and lost the duel. Basically he intends on losing but when he realises that the pair have improved he fears they might actually defeat and kill him and actually tries his best to win.
This isn't my interpretation, it's very clearly stated that dooku could not break either opponent with swordplay alone, he could however overpower Obi Wan with the force.

He ain't that type to do that and I think it would mean him not becoming one with the living force but the Dark Side in order to do that. It would take bitter spite to drive someone to do that.

I don't think Dooku would kill Qui-Gon, but subdue him and try to tempted him to the dark side. Why? Dooku and Jinn's relationship were like father-son.

It would be nice to see a novel based solely on Tyranus.
Somehow, I had a feeling Tyranus would outclass Qui-Gon, but I didn't think it would be _that_ easy.
There are a couple of things missing from Qui-Gon's repertoire, such as his pain threshold and injury count, his possible use of Makashi, his lessons to Obi-Wan, and his other Force abilities, most of which can be explained in the _Jedi Apprentice_ series. And let's not forget how he had at least some skill with psychological warfare, as described in his duels with Xanatos.
Also, Tyranus was nearly killed by Talzin via voodoo doll. Did you see all the torture he took?
Meanwhile, I'm pretty much satisfied that another Sith Lord has won an awesome match! Can't wait for the next one!

When people say that Dooku would be beaten by Maul, I don't understand. This the perfect showcase of Dooku's skills. There really is no doubt as to who would win but people seem to underestimate Dooku due to him only having 2 battles and one of them he gets killed. He lasted against Yoda for a bit, totally bested Obi-wan and Anakin, bested Obi-wan a second time but was still cut down by Anakin (i'd say it was simply underestimating Anakin).
He was tried thats it in thr battle of the invisible hand. Maul would never outclass Dooku.... it was only help from his allies
Before I watch, I'm putting my money on Dooku. No way in hell Qui-Gon could beat him.
This is almost like Ahsoka Tano vs Galen Marek, just that Qui-Gon > Tano and Galen > Dooku.
Dooku could beat Galen Marek. Malek isn't as strong as a Sith Lord. Cadet doesn't count cause he's pathetic.
***** And then and went and absorbed Darth Sidious's Force Lightning. Dooku's unquestionably the superior duelist, but Marek's force abilities are much more advanced. Marek's feat of redirecting the Star Destroyer is far in excess of anything Dooku's ever done with telekinesis (correct me if I'm wrong on that).
***** Where was it noted that Sidious was completely holding back? As I recall the resulting explosion created a sizeable blast that was visible even from outside the Death Star. I don't hold Marek's bout with Shaak Ti in any real weight, considering Marek was significantly stronger when he fought Vader than when he fought Ti. On top of that, Shaak Ti held her own in a fight with Darth Vader during Vader's attack on the Jedi Temple, not only escaping Vader, but actually holding him off long enough for several Jedi to escape. So she's at LEAST on par with Pre-Mustafar Darth Vader. ....Who curbstomped Count Dooku I might add.
Also, a Star Destroyer is MASSIVELY heavier than anything Dooku's manipulated with telekinesis. Hurling rubble around is hardly a tremendous feat of force power, even Darth Maul could do that. In terms of raw force strength, Marek's Star Destroyer feat DOES top any known feat, unless you have a feat of Dooku lifting an Acclamator.
***** Who has Dooku ever killed with his Force Lightning? Also, strain is not necessarily an indication of overall power. Yoda strained immensely to lift even a few rocks that Dooku threw at him, and yet during the Clone Wars was able to smash two Confederacy transport ships together with relative ease, and froze Asajj Ventress in place. Dooku has not demonstrated the ability to manipulate anything anywhere near as large as a Star Destroyer, regardless of the ease at which he could accomplish lesser feats. Collapsing a bridge is a positively minor feat compared to not just redirecting, but also STOPPING something as massive as a Star Destroyer which would likely weigh in the tens of thousands of tons.

I'm with you, while I do love Darth Vader, I'm probably getting there with getting sick of Maul and would want a book that explores Dooku's and Qui Gon Jin's relationship.
I was thinking about it the other day and dooku is actually one of my favorite sith I love his dueling style and there's just something about him that's so cool and fascinating

Love your videos, but this matchup seems rather silly because there is no universe where Qui Gon could EVER compare to Dooku. I much prefer fights with characters that I'm not so familiar with and have to actually guess at the outcome or matchups of opponents close enough in their skills that the verdict is more up in the air.
Agreed dis one was a petty clear win for Dooku not to say Jin sucks but he just can't compare
I feel that, in these videos, it is more about why and how it would play out, regardless of the seemingly one sided nature of a fight, and what makes such a fight interesting. The verdict is a key part of it but being slightly obvious might not necessarily mean that a full evaluation of such a fight wouldn't be interesting. Though I can see where you come from, and agree that certain fights would both lack interest and tension for a verdict, and example being in my opinion of a match lacking those things would be Barris Offee vs Darth Bane... Though for me as long as the match up is interesting and/or tense (in regards to the verdict) I'm all for it.
I believe the song at the end is sung by Christopher Lee, the man who plays Count Dooku in star wars. He has quite a few operatic metal albums.

While I do agree that Dooku would win, I think the disparity between their swordsmanship is smaller than people give Jinn credit for.
While Qui-Gon's blade-work and movement comes from Ataru, he actually fights like a lightweight version of Darth Vader after the Mustafar mishap. What I mean by this is that rather than bouncing around and flipping and tumbling, his style is very straight to the point: Strike to finish, and put enough weight behind every move so that your opponent has to defend it. Every strike thrown by Qui-Gon is meant to do serious damage, never letting his opponent become comfortable.
Add the occasional kick, punch or elbow strike and you have a somewhat clunky, but very effective style of fighting.
I still don't think it would be enough to defeat Dooku, barring sheer stupidity on the latter's part. Dooku's style is just to efficient and while I do consider Qui-Gon to have have a major strength advantage (He's a big dude) like you said, if Dooku can hold of a rage fueled Anakin for so long then Qui-Gon shouldn't be to difficult.
The only way Qui-Gon could win (in my opinion) would be if Dooku was stupid enough to just stand in front of Jinn and simply go blow to blow, because that's pretty much Jinn's specialty, and it's also a form of fighting where endurance and brute strength plays a major role. But seeing as Dooku has never been depicted fighting like that (he hates fighting like that) he shouldn't have to much trouble dealing with Jinn.
But I still feel people aren't giving Qui-Gon the credit he deserves.

Yeah I couldn't see this being considered a fair fight, even before watching the video. It's always cool to see master vs student stuff, but when it comes to these two Jinn is simply outclassed by Dooku. I love Jinn but there was only one way this could have ended.

1. Jerec (Jedi Knight) vs. Darth Malak (KOTOR).
2. Kyle Katarn vs. Mace Windu.
3. Any variations with those listed above.

completely agree with the conclusion and reasoning - one very small point about anakin defeating dooku: it was only after Kenobi was unconscious that Anakin got any traction at all against the count and my impression was that palpatine then felt free to use the force to help the bumbling skywalker without concern that he (palpatine) would be detected as a force user
one thing about dooku (speaking only about canon, not the expanded universe) was that he, dooku, was remarkably restrained and lenient when dealing with skywalker, Kenobi & yoda (at the end of aotc) when yoda was completely involved with both hands trying to lift the tank dooku knocked down with one, he (dooku) could have slaughtered all three but he didn't and that's something that I think, really set him apart from the other sith imo

I dont exactly understand how this is a fair fight. Dooku outclasses Qui-Gon on every relevant front. He was among the best swordsmen of the era, while Qui-Gon wasnt and knew Qui-Gon's technique very well. Dooku has far more Force abilities at his disposal, with more skill at applying them in combat.
Simply put, Qui-Gon has no chance

Another well done video Evan! I agreed with the outcome full heartedly, and honestly, your research proved Qui-Gon to be more powerful than I initially thought (especially since I thought his fighting form resembled more Niman, but I learned something new! :D).
One idea I think you might like if you haven't thought it over already, and quite honestly turn some heads is what I like to call; The Clash of Swords: Jaina Solo vs. Mace Windu, the last generation meets the next; Swords of the Jedi battling it out! But hyperbole aside, I, ave I'm sure other fans, would love to see it. If not, that's all good, still love to talk about it all the same. Thanks again!

Great video, the only thing that I would have to suggest is that when comparing two people who exist at the same time is to compare them at that point in time. Because if Qui-Gon Jinn had survived his encounter with Darth Maul who knows how much more powerful he could have become.

I think that Plo Koon would beat Maul, the zabrak warrior may be lethal to most Jedi but I feel like Plo's Shien and Ataru hybrid form is superior to Maul's Juyo and Niman hybrid form.
I feel like Padawan Kenobi and Qui-Gon wouldn't give Dooku that much of a match, Dooku was the only Jedi during his career in the order that was as powerful as Yoda.
Satele should easily beat Statkiller as she was able to catch a Lightsaber and destroy cliffs with the force.
