Valerie is just amazing. She may be near 60, but she is forever young in her wholesomeness and smile. I remember watching her on tv in the 70's and she seemed to be just a normal person then. Nothing has changed. It is refreshing to hear a celebrity say that they are thankful and blessed to be where they are. All the best to Valerie.

If Valerie could only know the legions of little girls who watched her on "One Day at a Time" and said to themselves, "I want to be her when I grow up!" I was one of those little girls. I used to think, if I could only be as nice, as sweet and as kind as this girl seems to be I'd be the most popular girl in my class. The fact that she is just gorgeous at any weight didn't enter into it-not really. When my mother said that true beauty comes from the inside, I believed her and Valerie is beautiful both inside and out.

Hi such a beautiful young women. She looks like her husband. Two beautiful souls entwined forever. With or without the weight you are a brautiful women. Great face, eyes, smile skin. Beautiful hair. Valerie you just need to learn to love yourself. You have it all, but you just cannot see it. May God take away these negative thoughts that you have about yourself,Valerie. God Bless you. So sorry to hear about the death of your late husband . Eddie Van Halen was a genious. Every now and then you see a soul with a genuine smile and they never stop smiling they love life then on too of that they are so gifted at what they do. They stop you in your tracks with thier sheer genious talent. Well this was Eddie Van Halen. Sometimes you come across a person who appears to be so special and they die to early like they are so special they do not live long. Well that person was Eddie. He was a God Given Gift to all whonlives music he was so gifted you do not see a petson come around in our life much. So we have to remember them forever. They are literally a one off. Its has if he was too good to live. Do you know what l mean. I would have loved to have met him. When he smiled he seemed to light up the whole room. A person like that does not come around us very often. I will swesr that God puts a person like that amongst us for a reason. Elizabeth Farrah-Atkin England. Bluesville13@gmail.com

I saw Valerie in gelsons No. Hollywood a few years back. she was with her husband , Eddie and her son Wolfie. She was a lot heavier then . And very Angry. You could see it on her face . While Eddie was kind of entertaining and shaking everyone's hand. It's too bad she can't express the whole story how she lived with an addict all those years. When I saw her that day she was like my mirror. I understood what she was going thru . Because I was living with an alcoholic also. Who wouldn't overeat for comfort.Addicts pick their mates very carefully and they make sure you are nurturing and they play mind games. I did 25 years of Alanon.. I was finally able to walk away. Valerie sounds like me. I hit a real wall several years ago with anxiety, depression, and feeling overwhelmed. Never felt good enough, felt like a failure, etc. It wasn't until I was in therapy that I could begin to cut myself a break, started rediscovering the person I started out as and intended to be, and truly feeling in the moment again and embracing joy. The voices of others didn't matter anymore, being happy with me was more important. If I wasn't enough, that was their problem not mine. I blossomed into someone I really like but I'm still not quite to where I'm 100% in love with me yet, I'm still working on me. Did Weight Watchers and lost 14 lbs and I'm keeping it off because I LOVE how I look and feel. Pushing through, praying a lot, and sending myself positive messages. I hope Valerie finds her inner strength, just love her. Growing up I wanted so much to look like her but being a stick thin redhead with freckles I didn't stand a chance!! LOL!!

Valerie, my name is Kristina and I am still crying as I am using Siri to type this message of gratitude! You are such a sweetheart. I know the feeling where that gets old and you’re supposed to always be beautiful and funny and happy, it may be you or me but it can become draining.
People tell me I am too thin and focus on my clothes or make up or earrings or shoes… I can’t recall the time I asked for anybody’s opinion and I am learning very slowly to let them know that whether it is kind or hurtful it is unsolicited and so please just enjoy my company.💕

I am so much her! Everything she is saying is things I have said. Her life mirrors my life. I had lost weight and was in such a great place. Then I discovered a heart condition that I had that I wasn’t aware of. Required open heart surgery and recovery. Now both my knees need to be replaced. I am between a rock and a hard place. I am lost about what to do next.

Wow I bet Valerie finally discovered Lizzo!!!! No I’m serious at some point we need to accept ourselves for who we are. She was so powerful when she said how she’s been losing the same 10lbs every year. It’s like at some point we gotta end the vicious cycle. Sure Valerie isn’t a small petite woman but like she said she has a blessed life. Her dress size isn’t the reason why this lady has had a long drama free consistent successful career in Hollywood it’s her heart her smile and her strength. I applaud you Valerie and the today show for showcasing these type of stories that women of all ages need to hear during daytime tv. Sisters United.

crstl89 Acceptance is one thing, and I’m all for that, but health is another. Lizzo is the last person I’d look to for how to model my life. That weight is not doing her or anyone else any favors. Don’t jump all over me; this is my opinion only.

Wow Valerie, I am you...I lose the weight and say I’m never going back and I go back and then more. I’ve lost 50lbs over a three year period I cut all soda drinks I just drink water, tea and allow myself one cup of coffee a day with sugar free cream. But now I got on the scale and I had gained 5lbs and I’m scared, Scared that the weight is going to come back and then more. I’m having surgery in two weeks for a hysterectomy, and I’m scared that instead of trying to stay healthy for that, I’m eating to fill that anxiety. I hope I can go on that journey with you and feel happy again, I want to find me the person I lost so long ago. I was a little girl that was made fun of for being chubby, the young girl I was that wanted to be like a skinny model, the mother I became that didn’t want to be In Family pictures because I didn’t recognize the person in the photograph. So many me’s that I lost so long ago. Thank you Valerie I needed someone like you who is so authentic and real. From a 58 year old who just wants to be a happy healthy me.🙏💞

beatriz hernandez I understand your concern about the weight gain, but keep on mind that you have a right to be stressed out:). Surgery can be scary, but I'm sure you will be ok. I've worked in hospitals as a clerk, EMT, etc. Make sure you're comfortable with your doctor, Google your doctor, ask questions!!! I drive doctors crazy but it's your body! Write the questions down do you don't forget them if you need to. I always do(63 yes old). I used to stress out if I gained weight as I've had a weight problem when I was in high school and after menopause (gained 40lbs). Lost about 25. My attitude is as long as I'm eating healthy ( most of the time) exercising. Then I'll lose the rest of the weight. There are worse things in life. I know how stressful it can be to gain weight. I learned to be friends with it and say ok. I gained some weight ( stress eating) but I can lose it again.I can take a walk, etc. Keep in mind it's safer and healthier to lose it slowly:(. I found that drinking enough water during the day helped also. So did knowing where all the bathrooms are. Bring something with you that gives you comfort if you have to stay overnight. look at it like a little vacation away from everyone. That was my chance to watch cable:) Bring and wear comfortable underwear, pants, top, sweatpants etc.also compfy shoes and socks. Make sure you have food, etc in the house after your surgery as you won't feel like doing much. Baby yourself, take care of yourself:)

Pink Rose Ty for all the advice and kind words. I know it will all be ok, I’m the worrying kind my husband says I think to much and stress about it. I have to let go, I worry about everyone else and think last about taking care of myself in the mean time. Ty again, we can all help each other just by talking to someone and letting go of all the little things in life.💕

It’s a shame you have to feel bad about yourself because of a number on a scale. Don’t sacrifice your happiness because of a number….Sure we get heavier as we age, diets only work for a while because you start to feel deprived. I have a system that I eat want I want, but in moderation. You don’t go hog wide because you know you can have it again tomorrow if you want…..best of luck 🍀 to you

I was raised the same way...at one point I can remember saying to my mother that I didn’t care if people liked me and I remember her telling me that I was wrong, that I should care...and I think therein lies a problem...always trying to be a ‘people pleaser’

Janna your right, my mom used to tell even worse " look at you ,you look horrible, stop thinking your pretty cause your not" when all I wanted was to be myself and she would tell me that if I wasn't all fixed up or comb the "right way" I was considered a embarrassment and what would people think of me as. Thanks to being taught that people pleasing is the way of life or the "normal " way ,I now have very low self esteem, I love my father because he has never put me down by saying horrible things like that.

I cannot imagine you ever being anything other than likable and with that I mean, even if you got angry and were to be upset you would be the compassionate person that would come around and that is priceless! That does not come with beauty or fame.
