    Another good video, FRM. I ran a Honda shop for 15 years, but they were not particularly aftermarket friendly. I have always admired the support that Toyota offered to the aftermarket, and I suspect they have had a positive influence on the industry. For example, before J-2534 boxes were popular they developed the Mongoose cable which had the J-2534 hardware built into the connector and made it available for < $500. They also rent their pro-level software for as little as $65 for 2 days.
    Also, the J-2534 interface was originally developed to support reprogramming across all models. Now, many manufacturers, including Toyota, use the J-2534 box for diagnostics also.

    Great job, I love seeing videos like this. J2534 was a bit intimidating for me at first even after 5+ years of doing daily reprograms on Deere equipment (with no required battery voltage maintainer 🤯).
    Thanks to Keith and Keith, amongst others, I gave it a shot and found it's not terrible once you have the equipment and a network of techs that you can build knowledge off of.
    For anyone just starting, I felt that GM was the most user friendly and easiest to successfully program and build up confidence.

    Awesome vid, Mike. There is no reflashing in Australia supported by manufacturers, we have to get around and hack the roadblocks they put in place and come up with ways to improvise, still need all the equipment to be able to do it though and it isn't always successful. The only thing we win on with hacking is we don't have to pay subscription fees or download charges.

    Speed is a big thing with programming nowadays like gm for instance if ur computer is slow or you have an older jbox the programming will fail. Don’t buy the cheapest laptop you can find get something that’s faster then what u need or if your like me that knows about computers you can buy an inexpensive laptop toss in more ram, good solid state hard drive and ur gonna have a much better experience. Gm uses the mdi2 for programing and their scan tool it’s only 700 bucks so for that price u can program just like the dealer and also have factory scan tool which you have to pay to use but it’s only like 800 for the year and you can pay for less then a year but it’s worth it if ur gonna use it and many manufacturers are like this now

    • @elfillari
      @elfillari Před rokem +1

      That works with cloning/replacing the ECM-unit only. But after that you need to teach the ECM the vehicle keys in some cases (for.ex.GM) to avoiding the vehicle getting to "anti theft mode" (no starting).

    • @andyperkins2523

      @@elfillari a good portion of the time the bytes for the keys are in the EEPROM. But, like Toyota for instance a quick search for the manual way of programming keys are available. Like opening doors and switching the ignition. Once that info is put into place you need to marry the ECM module to all the other modules jumping pins in the data link connector then bang it starts right up. After the 30 min wait time. However, older vehicles has the immobilizer info stored into the ECM directly and you could just clip onto the double e prom and load a flash file for it from the computers central data base. Model of vehicles varry and I'm not saying that this method is perfect. Just practical if you work on many vehicles to include heavy equipment. I can clone body modules And dash cluster and input mileage to them. Not only ECMs. Any module with a EEProm you can even copy high dollar tunes located in the processors but thats more complicated and requires other probes.
