The H&K MP5, UMP, and MP7 are three of the most iconic guns of all time. To our surprise, they've never been in a video together. Each of these sub machine guns was born from different eras and requests. In today's video, we discuss how these 3 guns came about.

We are fortunate that he came onto the channel and couldn’t be more thankful he was willing to actually work with us.
James Williamson is not only a subject matter expert on HK but is also a great dude. I spoke with him last week for the first time about P7m8 issues that I was able to clear myself but was very impressed with his availability and willingness to help any Joe who reaches out. Awesome addition to this channel.
Got the opportunity to shoot a full auto MP7 at an indoor range in KY about a year ago. Was something that i couldn't pass up. The other guys i was with weren't as excited about it until i told them that this was a one time chance and they would never see this weapon in the flesh ever again. The MP7 did not disappoint.
These HK episodes with James just keeps getting better and better. 👍

It's hilarious that the UMP and Mark 23 both came out of requests by high level teams who then turned around and essentially didn't use them; then the MP7 is developed for non-combat troops and the Tier 1 guys are like "Perfect!" Good to know that even the best make mistakes with firearms purchases 😂
Wait…. U dont think we actually get to choose our weapons do you? 😂😂😂 we have no say in what weapon contracts the military buys. We use what were told by the suit types

This is the only time I can actually think about having a "gripe" about this series you guys are doing at the moment and here it is, this video was NOT long enough. You had the king (mp5) the prince (ump) and the unicorn(mp7) that everyone wants to get there hands on. Great explanation on the "why" HK developed these guns through the years. Thank you 1911!

If HK ever makes a pistol variant of the UMP for the civilian market, I'm gonna be first in line to get it. They brought us the SP5 for the civilian market, I'm really hoping the UMP is next!
The UK and Irish police forces have always had armed dectives and armed special branch and armed special units. The Irish ERU (Emergency Respone Unit) are all armed with Sig Sauer P226 and Walter P99, MP7, Rimington 870 or Benelli M4/M3 Super 90, Steyr SSG 69/04, Taser, Pepper spray and non lethal shotgun rounds. Plain clothes dectectives carry the same load out as the ERU.
The 3 guns were all used in Underworld Evolution (2006) great movie and even better gun movie

UK police and Irish Garda (Police) use the MP7.
UK Police have a good procurement officer I’ve seen them rocking. MP5, G36C, MP7 even AUG and more recently the SIG 516 and MCX. Though Glock 17 is king for side arms, there were a few SIGs but now just Glock.
Note the UK police will not touch the L85 series!

A while back, like 25 years ago, O looked at the USP line and it turned me off of HK. That and their nick name. The company that hates its customers pretty much had me blind to HK.

Love looking at all the HK guns... So very ironic too, almost uncanny that I would work on a design suggestion for KAC back in January of 1995 , that was found to have many similar features as the HK MP7! So similar it was as if I was "reading their mail". Reed Knight would go on to choose a different development for his iconic PDW, However I tend to think from the design perspective of an UZI , that the certain characteristics of the MP7 and the design suggestions weren't as similar as they were so closely related to the ideas behind the same solutions to solving identical problems. I've always been in love with the UZI since first seeing one in the hands of a Secret Service agent protecting President Ronald Reagan. After visiting Israel in 1990, and seeing several UZI'S, some of them very up close from the young airport security girl who spoke perfect English who wanted to know why I was with a group of senior citizen tourists, trying to explain the cost of the airfare is cheaper to travel that way... I got home and bought a UZI myself and had it around my neck like a UZI necklace when I first met Reed Knight at the machine gun shoot in Kentucky in 1994. Doug Olson and Reed Knight referred to me as" That Kid with an UZI!" Then in January of 1995 I got the chance to visit with them for eight days and show them some design ideas. Some so uncanny similar to those they themselves were secretly working on they couldn't believe it. I still think of the ideas I had from that time, although different some features were identical to those of the HK MP7 and its been a dream gun for me aswell every since those drawings and dreams at Vero Beach... Thinking back to a time when in a World of compromise, some men don't... I came up with When your life is on the line... only the finest will do!

Did anyone else here him say the UK police have a semi auto only MP7? To the USA please.
Home office police use the Sig MCX, G36 and mp5 however most forces are moving to the MCX
The Ministry of defence police use the MP7, C8 or L85 depending where you are stationed.
I've only been going to the range for about a year, & I've never seen any of these guns... In fact, I think I'm surrounded by mostly pistols, or rifles; I'm the only one I've ever seen with a CMMG Banshee (SMG) style of firearm... Granted, I only go out about once a month; I am however glad to see a decent number of suppressors on the rifles.

The camera work is literally making my stomach hurt. Why can’t I just watch the guns being shot?
Heat is by far my favorite movie of all time. But... i gotta tell you, Pacino and Dinero's egos where so big at that time that they never actually did a scene together in that movie. Every time it looks like they're in the same scene the camera is always looking from behind ones head at the others face and vice versa. They use a stand in for the back of ones head for each of those scenes. This is an awesome movie fact that you can look up!

I actually really like the UMP because its quicker on the reload and has better ergos then the MP5 with a more potent round against unarmored then the MP7.. Great rail space to put optics and lights and lasers ect.. And a .45 suppressed is a thing of beauty ... Anyone that runs a UMP in 9mm is a little bit odd.. The guns are made for .45 and .40...
How did they get there hands on a full auto MP7? I thought is illegal in the USA.

Not from H&K. There was a time when .357 SIG was discussed for the US Secret Service, but nothing beyond the three calibers mentioned have been available.

It’s kinda remarkable how unremarkable the UMP is. You want to love it but it’s just not it. MP5 is timeless and other then quirks of manual of arms which I actually enjoy, damn near perfect. MP7 is like the sister to the MP5 sexy and just different enough to stand out. MP5 is still and will always be the 9mm king. If I wanted AR controls I would buy an AR15.

Seriously not giving the Spaniards credit here. The stamped steel/roller delayed that HK is known for started with the CETME, not the G3. The G3 was a copy of the CETME.

HK products are cool. But they’re profit margins for these things are fucking stupid. You’re paying for a stamped receiver and a polymer trigger pack. Stamped is used only for the simple fact that it’s cheaper and easier to mass produce. Here people are paying 3K. Fucking baffling .
