its extremely rare for someone to be even more successful outside of WWE due to WWE being miles above every other promotion in terms of limelight and marketing. I'm so happy to see Cody rising above WWE.
It is becoming increasingly less rare! and if the definition of 'successful' expands from just money, I think the work/life/money in terms of per appearance and royalties/health/creativity/enjoyment balance might just make yourself even more of a success, even if you aren't making as much.
the rhodes family is a legacy and that with awesome skills made him succeed out of wwe.
link biff Snitsky is also successful. Not so much in wrestling now, but he has his own organic beard products selling well.
Limelight and money
what rises…. must fall
Now he's back. Welcome home Cody
This is one of the best interviews I've seen in a long time. To hear Cody talk about his father in such a loving and uplifting way is so heartfelt. It's awesome to see all my favorite wrestler's kids all grown up walking in their parents footsteps.. I learned something new "Maximize your minutes."
One of the best interviewers out there that connects with wrestlers. Growing up, who was your favorite wrestler?
for it was Cody and he is still my favourite
After Hours Tv & Pc repair Growing up, I loved The Rock and HHH. I hope one day to be able to interview Trips
Mr Perfect!
Macho Man. Met him at 7-11 on Treasure Island, FL when I was in 6th grade, best day of my life!
After Hours Tv & Pc repair Snitsky easily and he still is. He would have been a legend in the indys.
You always do the best interviews.. You maximize your minutes
These wrestlers always seem so much happier outside the WWE. They're having fun, connecting with the fans, coming up with new creative ideas and loving what they do.
“Creative control” overrated
Good interview! I don't exactly know how to say this but you always seem to find a way to make wrestlers feel like themselves in these interviews even when they are tired or exhausted but other than that, glad to see Cody is doing well
Thanks very much Mikays. I appreciate you checking out my interviews!
Mikays ! And that's not easy to do as an interviewer
“ Making more money.” What goes around, comes back around… Full circle.
Ofc he was lying
Not that wild to believe he was making more on the independent scene than the WWE at this time. He was able to work shows everywhere and the merchandise set up they had. And then mix in what he likely made in the WWE in the middle of the card. It’s not like he was making millions there at that time. Obviously he wasn’t making more at this stage than he is now in the WWE. The money was out there if you hustled for it and they did.
He's happy that's all that matters
Neal Frost Thats for Sure
You ain't the only Cowboy/Laker fan here lol
Cody's finally getting the credit he deserves plus he has creative control of his character and hes having fun. What more could he ask for? Happy for him!
I never really knew "Cody" until he left. And because of him I was more exposed to all the other promotions, like ROH, New Japan, I starting following in Kenny Omega, Young Bucks... and so far everything I seen with him makes me like him more and more. I wish him continued success.
Looks like a real champion. A throwback champion. Carries the title belt like it's prestigious. And the ring is a great touch. Happy for Cody. Happy that Cody is happy.
This dude is a great interviewer. Cody RHODES seems like a genuine good dude as well.
It's not just about money, wwe just doesn't respect it's talent, chaining them down, taking away their creative freedom. Happy wherever cody is successful, god bless him.
That pathetic "Neville Level" shirt pretty much sums up what WWE think of their wrestlers.
In the interview Cody reminds me of self of worth and that if passionate about something you love doing don't let something keep you from that
LJ54 you need to read Justin Roberts book.... He specifically said that there is a paper shredder in wwe office and above it theres a poster saying your idea. He explained that talents idea are treated as trash
I wish WWE would bring back Corny, JR, and Prichard to book their matches rather than the writers they have nowadays
They give the females more creative freedom then males nowadays due to them promoted women. You can look at Naomi and tell that half of the stuff she does would never be thought of at WWE.
Happy for him - he deserves it. Great interview as always
Cody’s so cool. Dude deserves it all quite frankly.
Vince Macmahon should kiss the ring!💍💍💍💍😗😗😗😂😂😂😂😂
Best Comment ahahaha on yah Steve Kituku
Franz Styles no
awesome vids stfup u should kiss mcmahon ass jackass
Is it possible that wrestling becomes huge again for wrestlers through the old territory system, only this time its an internet territory, where the other promotions cooperate and help promote each other respect the build up of their champions
John Thomson - Realistically, no. Great idea in theory, and it's been tried before, but creative differences and greed take over. Enjoy the indies for what they are worth.
Here we are in 2021
Cody a true pro wrestle
What an incredibly charming and likable individual.
He said arduous! Love it you both are great! Thank you Chris!
Cody seems like such an awesome dude. I remember him when he was tagging with Hardcore Holly. Great interview, Chris.
Your interviews are always on point man
Great interview! I find the relation of ROH talent & fans very similar to how I remember early ECW & fans. It's a great thing to see.
Just recently found your channel, loving these interviews! Hope for nothing but the best for you!
I’ve meet Cody 3 times! One of the nicest wrestlers I’ve ever meet!
Nick Kurtz did he remember you?
Good for you, Cody. He’s worked his ass off and deserves everything he has achieved. Really hope that he gets a second shot in WWE.
Umeer Cheema he sucki
A second shot at WWE? Are you nuts? We should want more big names to leave WWE and go to ROH or Japan, it makes the overall product BETTER
He just signed 3 years contract with ROH so he is not coming to wwe any time soon
He and Kenny are trying to prove you don't have to be in wwe to be taken seriously
Joel Carriere new Japan can't compete with WWE financially though, I understand you selfishly want your favourite wrestlers to stay in njpw or roh so they have better matches and creative control, but if Kenny, Cody, the bucks went to WWE they'd make millions more on top of the merch sales they already have
Crazy how far he has come from then until now
WOOOO! Finally the van vliet has come back with another wrestling interview. The best interviewer on CZcams. Awesome job Chris. Got any dolph coming up?
WOOOOOOO! I'm working on a new interview with DZ. For a guy who's "from" Hollywood, FL he doesn't spent very much time here haha. I have a new one with The Elite that I'll be posting soon!
Is dolph ziggler out of wwe ?
I’m so pleased that Cody is doing well outside of the WWE. His father is one my favorite wrestler of all time.
Another fantastic interview, Chris!! Based on the many of yours that I've seen, I feel that most of them end just as they're really getting started!! Leave them wanting more, I guess? Keep up the outstanding work and thanks again!!
this is the only long interview that i can stand watching till it finished. good job man, on point
WWE losing Cody was so stupid. They shoulda let him do what he wants as well as pushing him. Cody is a phenomal talent and losing him was a bit hit. And now he's a ROH champion.
no, but I mean he could represent Smackdown champ.
They didn't have to let him squash Brock or even be in the main title picture. But he deserved better than being stuck as Stardust
Jack Chien Hard to argue there
Aj Styles is phenomenal
This was the best move for him and the company. He is learning so much more by being the man at ROH. He’s building a name for himself that he didn’t have at WWE. When he’s ready to come back, he’ll have legitimacy and a whole new skill set.
Everywhere I see Cody Rhodes' name, I see him telling everybody how happy he is since leaving, can never keep wwe out of the conversation.
Are you talking about Cody himself? At least in this interview, he wasn't the one who brought it up.
He is happy, but he's also well aware that WWE put him on the map. He was with WWE for a decade and beyond that he's a Rhodes, he's wrestling and more importantly WWE royalty thanks to his Dad. He can be happy right now outside of WWE and still talk about WWE.
It’s not his fault the people interviewing him always ask him WWE questions.
Was so proud when cody was in my home town in England wrestling. Was an honour to meet him, explaining how they created his cross rhoads finisher!
That's what I call a very good interview! Congrats
6:00 Oh, Cody. If only you knew you'd be headlining WrestleMania 6 years later.
And Chris, if you're reading this,
You a legend and a time traveler.
The fact that you can now have million dollar success while wrestling in smaller venues is awesome.
Young bucks are on the Indy’s and are millionaires wow!!
knightfall209 Ate they richer than Selena Gomez?
I'm a fan of the Young Bucks but I don't think they make a million a year combined. Not hating but just hard to believe.
Raymond S If that was the case they'd be on the top ten richest pro wrestlers of 2017. I seriously doubt that.
Jakey Jake. You're immature with such insults.
Raymond S What's insulting about it...??? I asked a simple question. If you find me asking whether or not they are making more money than Selena Gomez insulting then you need to take a chill pill.
I always love your interviews Chris!
Cody has class, even though the WWE treat the guy like garbage, he still has no hate for them. They never even gave him 1 title run.
warcrab cyber He was IC champion and tag team champs more than once. What do you mean...??? Or do you mean wwe title...???
heavy weight champion?. the title that matters the most. if wwe does not give you a heavy weight title run, they do not think highly of you since that title is the most important in the company. It represents the best of the company. the fact that cody never got a heavy wight title run means they did not think highly enough of him. and they had cody as constant gimmicks all the time.
warcrab cyber Roddy Piper never held that title and take a look at him.
Exactly, wwe with their terrible bookings and gimmicks ruins any chance a superstar has to be great. wrestlers in wwe are not give any creative freedom and thats why wwe is going down the drain, and good superstars will continue to leave. leaving wwe was the best decision cody made for his own growth and development.
warcrab cyber Cody was fine in the mid card
Cody seems like a very legit and nice guy! Good on him for his success outside of WWE!
And here we are now 😊
I agree great interview
Cody is such a professional! Love how ways went for him :)
I was pissed off when he left WWE, because he was so underutilized and deserved better. So glad he's doing great now.
Cody is awesome and Im glad hes out there, outside wwe
I am loving your channel sir... fantastic interviews and content. I love it!
Thanks very much! I appreciate it!
Honestly think dusty would be proud of Cody making his own way through the world of wrestling today. The American Dream lives on through Cody.
One of Cody's best interviews
Mr Van Vliet, you are easily the best pro wrestling interviewer out there. You have a chemistry with these people for some reason that is just natural and you don't come off as a nerdy fan. It's almost like you are already a part of the crew.
TheReviewSpace Wow, thank you so much for this comment. I work hard preparing for these interviews and really appreciate that others enjoy them!
Can't wait to see Cody and the rest of the Bullet Club this Saturday in Dallas
It is so crazy to see Cody and Dustin amplify the Rhodes name like they have. One day it may be as synonymous as McMahon
Met Cody in person at a show he is a real cool man like no security or anything he was just walking around greeting people .
Eazy Kickz He's a great man, but so is Snitsky. wwe did that man wrong he liked to hurt people he said so himself on Raw in 2007.
Really happy for Cody. Finally, he's something. In the wwe, he was nothing and now he looks amazing. Just shows that being in the 'best' company isn't the best. He went into Japan and he shines! I'm a fan of his character
Awesome interview
Cody is amazing. Next big thing
gr8 guy.. super interview
He's making more money because he's getting better opportunities than to go putting on that clown costume and work for Vince McMahon's Carnival of Misfits.
lol
Even Cody himself purely hated the stardust gimmick and cannot blame him
19buseye71 When I saw Cody as star dust, it was a feeling like Owen as the Blue blazer. I said damn, he's done, Vince doesn't believe in him and gave up on him. Vince stuck him in the never draw a dime pile. I like Cody wrestling style, even in WWE. I didn't like his finisher when he spring boarded off the ropes and kicked you. The spinning modified neck breaker was better and believable and look devastating.
Miguel Navarro he only hated the gimmick closer to the end of it. He loved it from the start. He even wanted different colors for it at the start but WWE rejected it.
Cody Knight I mean, yea, your happy to be used in any capacity at first by WWE. However, I think the light went off and saw that WWE didn't believe in him. Cidyvwas going the same route if his brother. He would've never been his own man that way. Get out of there, goid for him. Don't just sit and rot.
Independent wrestling promotions continue to grow and the fanbase grows with them. This is great for wrestling, and it definitively is a great time to be a wrestling fan.
Yo, I love the advice that Dusty gave you, I'll be posting that quote.
Hey bud, saw u at the roh show. U were rocking that awesome mcfly shirt
I remember in 2015 I was watching SD and my family were saying "Stardust sucks, what a stupid wrestler" and now they are saying "Wow this guy is great, he is a World Champion"
Mau Ferrer they really should have gave it more of a chance.
Stardust did suck
I sadly started with WWE with there tv deal from 1998-2014 up to now with the network. RoH is in New York or Philly, WWE based in CT, then DragonGate USA, Shimmer, New Japan on AxsTv, etc.
09:50 the Elites and the Cody made the screen burn💥
Love Cody! Pretty Solid Man.. Fan since Legacy👌🏼🤑
Cody is awesome he deserves everything happening to him right now
Cody, a shining example of a success story.
LJ54 Sure...
LJ54 Doesn't work that way. Not everyone named Flair was a success, for example. Or DiBiase.
War memorial auditorium the south Florida home for ECW. Saw every show there
I'm so happy for this dude
Happy to see Cody successful. He keeps it real and is a genuine guy who's very likable in real life. That'll transition well in the ring, I'm an instant fan.
Feels like 6 months ago
I always thought Cody was Goldust's son. Suprised they are brothers.
Yea they’re 16 years apart I thought the same when I was younger until I heard someone say they’re both Dusty’s son and was like oh wow
I love it Cody proud of ya your dad shinning on ya
Sooo happy for Cody Rhodes this is where he should be perfect Gimmick, theme he living it Doing his father really Proud on yah cody
When Cody was with WWE I could tell he had a lot more to offer the industry but the " monster muscle " mind set of WWE is the reason why he left in my mind . I'm so happy he's doing well and is so happy inside and out
Cody is a great wrestler.. i miss him.. wwe did a mistake
I met Cody Rhodes in 2012. He was really nice. He signed autographs for a bunch of kids and i shook his hand and told him he deserves the wwe title. He laughed and agreed wit me lol
Finally got on match quality
I am continually impressed and surprised by how many people call out Kane as their best friend.
Genuine.. just like his brother and father.
I like his attitude
Glad for him.
Cody seems like a very cool dude.. easy going.. you can't hear the lisp anymore like in his early days
I think he became aware of it and conditioned himself to no longer allow it to exist.
Last night roh ruled in fort Lauderdale. Cody is an amazing talent. He's the son of a Plumber and I'm so happy for him.
I will tune to Roh just for this guy
He is going to bring wrestling back to greatness again. ROH will define it.
My favorite wrestlers
I think the concern about The Bullet Club adding more people is legit. One of the things WWE did well with The Shield is they did not bring in any additional members. It was Seth, Dean and Roman from the start till the end. You don't want to get greedy like with the nWo.
The NWO could have survived with more people, just that it was all the wrong people joining. No one cared about Brutus Beefcake, Scott Norton, Eric Bischoff, or some of the other Z-grade talent.
I don't even get why everyone puts Bischoff on a pedestal. He had ONE successful idea in how many years in charge? He was in charge at least as far back as 1992 (look for him in your home video credits), but it took him until when to finally come up with the idea to do what Raw had been doing before? Even then, his single idea, the NWO was a copy of something someone else had come up with...how does that make him a genius, exactly?
Further, I call either BS, hazy memory, or exaggeration of the origins of Nitro. Turner had ownership of WCW since 1991, and he suddenly cared about WWE when??
I was there
Cody you doing good. Keep on. Keep on doing what you do
Cody and the Elite are the vanguard for the next phase in pro wrestling.
Cody is so charismatic it’s a crime that the WWE didn’t maximize on his potential, he sounds like a really genuine guy. Now the WWE will pay when theYoung Bucks put them out of business!!!!!!!!
Im so glad he got his last name back for TV
I like that hes happy, hes making more money and that he gets the recognition he deserves. The Stardust Gimmick was a complete fuck you to everything Cody stood for and how under appreciated he was in the WWE. Good on him.
He said, it's not about "the brand defining you but you defining the brand." That's not how it works in the WWE.
There's a point to what you say, but as it relates to WWE, they have a lot more years in business, so at this point, it IS about the brand. Like it or no, that's just the way it is. Even their brand evolves. From WWWF to WWF and now WWE, and from all sorts of different "eras" (kind of like dynasties), which I think is kind of lame, but it's how they describe different times in company history, because they don't like to define by the wrestlers. Wrestlers come and go, but WWE will always be there, as will McMahons (this is more or less something McMahon once said as it relates to why he became on-screen talent in the wake of Bret Hart's unceremonious departure).
I'm Glad Cody Rhodes is doing Great Now!
Is it me or is that Bully Ray sitting in the White & Black hat next to Chris? Awesome Interview
Nice
Im glad he made the move he did
