This was the version used from its premiere on SuperStation WTBS on June 3, 1983 until May 1985 when a new version was introduced. Bob Coburn and Joanne Erhart were the voiceover announcers.
I remember watching Night Tracks every Friday and Saturday night back in 83 and 84. Sadly, there will never be TV like this again. Good luck finding something decent to watch on late night TV today.
Straight Facts!!! We even recorded the videos on a cassette player so we could listen to them over again!!! Growing up and 80's child was such a blessing. 👼🏾💕💕💕
Same here. I played football so Friday nights (during football season) was game, dance after game, come home mom had a big plate of food ready, eat, watch videos until I fell asleep. Damn I miss the 80's!
This is from Feb. 1984......I can tell from the Tom Selleck movie.....I was 19 and used to watch this in my barracks room in the Army in Honolulu....I had just gotten there in Jan. and did not know too many people and I used to watch this every weekend before I got to know the other guys and then left the barracks on weekends....it is crazy when I watch this and hear the music I am a lonely 19 year old in the barracks up in the mountains of Oahu....wish I could go back....
I freakin' loved some tbs night tracks as a kid! The 80s was by far the best decade EVER! Everything was like totally awesome you know: the movies, music, fashion, games (atari ruled)!
it was the hightlight of my weekends. I can't tell you how many Wham, Lionel Richie, Tina Turner, Duran Duran, Cyndi Lauper, Prince,Huey Lewis, The Cars, Van Halen, Mr. Mister, Pat Benatar, Tears for Fears REO Speedwagon videos i've seen on Night Tracks & Friday Night Videos

Super station WTBS!!! Channel 17 in Atlanta !! No cable needed either!! Just rabbit ears!!! I was born and Raised in Atlanta on Jonesboro rd in Forest park! Watched Night Tracks every weekend!!! After braves games!! Great times
Back then, nothing got me more excited than getting to see Duran Duran AND Huey Lewis and the News both in the same hour! That really made me a happy teenaged girl!😍
Typical Friday night for the pre teen that I was 83-85 Watch Friday Night Videos, a local Chicago show hosted by DJ's in the area called Rock On Chicago, switch it over to MTV to see if they had anything good (usually Friday Night Video Fights remember that? and the Top 20 Video Countdown) and then Night Tracks somewhere in there all in all that was a night! AH!!!! Great times to be growing up!!!
This just takes me back to when music videos were new and fun and exciting. I remember on Fri. & Sat. nights after 11:00 pm, there were 6 different stations playing videos all night. I'd stay up flipping from one channel to the next to see what video they were showing. You could see alot of different videos that MTV didn't play. Some pretty good ones too.
Just hearing that theme song takes me back to when music videos were still an empty canvas, waiting for the next cutting edge concept to appear! If only I was old enough to make some back then!
Channel 17 (WTBS) was owned by Turner Broadcasting and was free in Atlanta. Everyone else in the US had to have cable to get the channel Night Tracks came on. I used to stay up every weekend watching music videos!
Oh boy, for all of you 80s babies they should really bring this back I still remember that theme music. Compared to BET's Video Soul, Video Vibes, New York Hot Tracks, MTV, and other syndicated video programs
Yeah!!! Me and my siblings use to stay up watching this all night JAMMING. Around midnight you knew they were going to play a Michael Jackson video Beat it or Thriller lol. We always wanted Thriller to come on lol.
And unlike MTV, Night Tracks showed R&B videos. Used to come on late Friday/Early Saturday at 12:05 am-6:05 am and late Saturday/early Sunday 12:05 am-6:05 am.
Absolutely ! Night Tracks had the best mix of top 40.... Pop, R&B, Hard Rock, maybe even some country, but I don't remember that. So many Friday/Saturday nights of high school and early college spent with that on the TV.
I was a teen when this was on Channel 5 (TBS-i think). it was a 6 hour show on Friday and Saturday nights cut into 3 hour sections. On Friday they would play 11pm to 2am..then another show from 2am to 5am and reverse the order for Saturdays. I loved this show
Loved Night Tracks! One thing that I haven't seen anyone comment on is that the videos played in Part 2 on Friday night is what they would play to kick off the show on Saturday night. I also remember the show would sometimes start late because the Braves game wasn't over yet.
Night Tracks from the Producers of Kids Incorporated, The Secret World of Alex Mack and The Journey of Allen Strange I remember it well A Great way to end Saturday Nights God Bless The OLD SKOOL SuperStation WTBS
Watching this and "Saturday Night's Main Event" wrestling was the move growing up!!! I miss the 80s so much!! I wish someone would invent a damn time machine that actually works!! All these plastic fakes and horrible music reality shows are trash!
There's a day when I wish there was more channels like this. That is why I recorded VH1Classic before we lost it. I have all the videos I can stand for now. Even my own music video show isn't the same LOL
Just occurred to me, there isnt anywhere we can watch just random videos anymore. MTVs reality BS tanked the ratings so bad that its not even on a lot of cable providers anymore, even if they showed videos, which they havent for, like, 15 years.
On extended cable there is MTV2 but thats extra but alot of the music videos made these days arent really worth paying for it, to be honest. I do think it should become the main MTV again though because I'm sure not going to watch what they're showing on the regular channel now. What I probably would be willing to pay for is a channel that just shows the original MTV broadcasts from the very beginning or highlights of them with the original VJ's. MTVclassics would definately have me watching.
SpreadingtheMuse That's one reason why I finally cut the Cable TV cord in 2010. It's very ironic that there are more cable channels today but way fewer of them air music videos and that's on the digital tier for more money.
Christian B If I have to physically click them, then they're not "random" (because of course, I made a conscious choice to click them). Back in the day, you could just flip on a cable channel, and sit down to watch videos for hours. You never knew what was coming next, you never knew what new songs were about to become your favorite song in the whole world. That experience does not exist anymore.

love this so much. i was about 12 and felt so alive. staying up all night to watch prince's 1999 and was exposed to so much new music. :)
